Apologizing for the enslar.'ement and racial scgl'egation of
African-Americans.
\\hereas niillions of Africans and their descendants were
enslaved in the l-Inited States anrl the 1l] Anrerican colo-
nies from 1619 through 1865;
\\'hereas slavery in America rese.mble(l no other fbrm of inr,nl-
untar-v ser\,'itude knorvn in history, as Africarrs were cap-
tured and sold at auction like inanirrate objects or ani-
mals;

being stripped of their names and heritage;
