DuPont TraSys 27

mold release COATING

Description

Directions for Use

DuPont TraSys 27 air cure release coating is a clear

fluorochemical base dispersion. When applied to a surface, it
exhibits outstanding release or antistick properties and has a
very low coefficient of friction. It is clean, nonoily, nonstaining
and chemically inert. The dry coating can function in continuous
use in temperatures up to 285C (545F).

Recommended Procedure

TraSys 27 release coating has unique properties, making it

an excellent release agent for molded rubber, molded plastic,
and epoxy and plastic laminates. Unlike oily release agents,
when properly applied, it does not interfere with post-finishing
operations.

Typical Uses
TraSys 27 is ideal for the compression, transfer, and injection
molding of rubber and plastic products, Mold-In Graphic
application areas and parting lines for plastics rotational molding,
and other molding applications requiring a nonstick surface.
For Rotational MoldersTraSys 27 provides a durable, nonstick
surface that offers rotational molders the convenience of
DuPont Teflon coating, without the expense and time out of
production. TraSys 27 can be used as a touch-up over itself or
over an existing Teflon coating. TraSys 27 reduces shadowing
and incomplete transfer of Mold-In Graphics and can be an
excellent parting line release.
For Molded RubberTraSys 27 use eliminates the need for
periodic semi-permanent or sacrificial release applications by
providing an antistick surface for several thousand heats.
TraSys 27 is recommended for the molding of all natural and
synthetic rubber compounds, with the exception of perfluoro
compounds.

1. Clean mold thoroughly, using glass or plastic bead media, and

wipe with a nonoily cleaning solvent to remove all prior mold
release and other sources of contamination.
2. Lightly wipe, brush, or spray a single layer of TraSys 27 to
desired areas. If spraying, use spray equipment that provides
a fine mist. Apply lightly to a cold mold, making certain that
all areas of the mold are entirely coated.
3. To remove excess release coating, it may be necessary to
lightly buff the dried, coated area with a soft, clean rag, in a
manner similar to removing wax from a car.
4. TraSys 27 release coating is designed to give excellent
adhesion to most clean surfaces and does not require
baking. However, lightly heating coated surfaces before use
is recommended to ensure surface is dry. Additionally, the
introduction of heat will enhance the bond to the substrate
to significantly increase the durability. Properly applied, the
coating will not be affected by water or most other materials
that may come in contact with it.

Storage and Handling

Shelf Life

Adequate ventilation must be provided in work areas where

DuPont TraSys 27 release coating is being used. Breathing
vapors should be avoided. If spraying, care should be taken to
avoid inhaling mist or vapors, just as sprayed paint inhalation
should be avoided.

One year from date of shipment.

Vapor from the solvent may develop slight pressure. Therefore,

care should be exercised when opening containers. Containers
should be closed promptly after removing part of the contents to
avoid evaporation.

Packaging
TraSys 27 is sold by the pound and is available in 0.5-, 1.5-,
and 3-lb containers.

Shipping Limitations
None

Care should be taken not to expose TraSys 27 mold release

coating to open flame or intense heat. Care must also be taken
to avoid contamination of tobacco products. Excess temperature
(greater than 360C [680F]) may cause chemical breakdown,
resulting in toxic fumes. Always wash hands after handling
TraSys 27 mold release coating.
