Course Title: Fundamentals of nursing (theory)

Course Description:
This course serves as abase for the other nursing courses, it is designed to introduces
the student to basic nursing concepts. The course emphasizes the student's
understanding of the nature of the client needs and the interventions required utilizing
the functional health patterns such as exercise and rest, nutrition, elimination
.Students are encouraged to examine issues central to contemporary nursing practice
such as: wellness, health promotion, disease prevention, effective communication,
ethic and holistic approach to nursing care. The nursing process is the organizing
framework for the care provided to meet human needs.

Course objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
o Value primary health care concepts: as a part of the Nursing Program
o Discuss concepts related to functional health pattern and their Utilization
providing nursing care for clients.
o Identify the evolution of Nursing and its history through the different years.
o Be aware of the basic human needs based upon the activities of daily living
(nutrition, oxygen, eliminationetc)
o Promote safe and secure environment for the client .
o Assess vital signs.
o Use therapeutic communication skills.

o Demonstrate professional behaviors.


o Provide needs-based care according to Maslows Hierarchy.
o Identify and apply the principles of infection prevention in any clinical setting.
o Utilize the nursing process and critical thinking skills.
o Manage comfort, pain, sleep, and rest.
o Provide nutrition / fluid balance.
o Maintain oxygenation.
o Promote, maintain, and restore elimination.
