10-20 lbs. If lower, speed up M-15 pump.
14.Start mixer in body feed tank.
15.Add 1/2 bag of DE to precoat tank.

WARNING
Use of Baker equipment contrary to
manufacturers specification may result in
property damage, serious injury or fatality.
8. Check body feed tank, fill when approximately
3/4 down by opening body feed fill valve
(14 AS) and closing discharge valve (8 PS) on
press skid.
NOTE: Be sure that discharge valve (8 PS) is
ALWAYS open before closing either of the fill valves
(14 or 15 on auxiliary skid).

Bringing Centrifugal Pump On-Line

1. Prime all lines (See Priming the Centrifugal
Pump section).
2. Open centrifugal intake valve (2 AS) one-fourth
(1/4) of the way.
3. Start pump at low idle.
4. Stop M-15 pump (10 AS).
5. Close M-15 discharge valve (11 AS).
6. Run rpm up to 1,400 on centrifugal.
7. Using centrifugal intake valve (2 AS), adjust
pressure to same or little higher than it was with
M-15, or until reaching desired rates.
8. As rates slow down, gradually open centrifugal
intake valve to increase rates.
9. Once centrifugal intake valve is wide open and
rates still need to be increased, raise rates by
giving centrifugal more rpm.
10.Upon reaching 100 psi on press, or point that
rates are so slow that you no longer can keep
up, proceed to break down.
NOTE: Before breaking down, try to have enough
clean fluid in active pit so rig will not have to stop
while you clean the press. When working with small
surface volumes, let rig know ahead of time so they
can slow down (allowing you to get volume ahead
and time to break down).

Blowing (Breaking) Down

1. Try to allow a half empty body-feed tank before
breaking down.
2. Turn centrifugal off and close intake valve
(2 AS).
3. Turn M-4 off (9 AS) and close body feed discharge valve (4 AS).
4. Close main intake on auxiliary skid (3 AS).
5. Open body feed fill valve (14 AS).

De Plate And Frame Filtration System

6.
7.
8.
9.

Close discharge valve on press skid (8 PS).

Open M-15 discharge valve (11 AS).
Open through valve (8 AS).
Start M-4 and M-15 pumps and continue pumping until there are no returns.
10.Open by-pass valve (5 PS).
11.Close main intake valve on press (4 PS).
12.Close top and bottom return valve on press
(9 and 10 PS).
13.Jack hydraulic hand pump up to 4,200-5,000
psi of pressure until locknut on cylinder can be
unscrewed.
14.Release hydraulic pressure on hand pump and
turn closing screw back a few revolutions until
hydraulic cylinder can be swung clear.
15.Place the locknut handle on the follow head
and allow the hydraulic cylinder to rest on handle.
16.Pull follow head back a little allowing any fluid
still on press to fall on drip pans and be pulled
back into body feed tank.
17.Once all fluid has been removed from press,
turn M-4 and M-15 pump off. Remove drip pans
and through hose. Begin to wash press plate by
plate.
18.Once clean, close press back and proceed to
precoat steps.

Priming The Centrifugal Pump

Since this is not a self-priming pump, it will normally require some type of external priming. Listed
below are several methods which may be helpful.
NOTE: * PS = Press skid sketch
** AS = Auxiliary skid sketch

Priming by Backwash from Press

1. Turn off centrifugal pump.
2. Close centrifugal intake valve on skid (2 AS).
3. Loosen wing-half on hose of centrifugal intake
valve to allow air to escape.
4. Once a steady flow of fluid starts coming out,
tighten wing-half back up.
NOTE: This works while precoating or filtering
because part of the fluid going to the press at the
TEE comes back through the pump.

De Plate And Frame Filtration System

Priming with M-4 Air Pump

With Centrifugal Running
1. Crack the centrifugal intake valve (2 AS) only a
small amount to allow very little fluid to pass
through.
2. M-15 should be turned off (10 AS).
3. With centrifugal intake valve open (2 AS), start
pumping from body-feed tank with M-4 at a fast
pace and body feed discharge valve (4 AS) and
control valve (7 AS) opened all the way.
4. Pump should regain prime shortly. At that time,
slow M-4 down and get body feed back to normal.
With Centrifugal Stopped
1. Turn off M-15.
2. Close centrifugal intake valve (2 AS).
3. Loosen centrifugal intake hose.
4. Loosen centrifugal discharge hose between
centrifugal and intake valve (2 AS).
5. Open body feed discharge valve (4 AS).
6. Open body feed control valve (7 AS).
7. Start M-4.
8. Shake intake on centrifugal until all air comes
out.
9. Shake discharge on centrifugal until all air escapes.

10.Tighten discharge on centrifugal.

11.Shake intake one last time to make sure all air
has escaped.
12.Tighten intake back down and shut off M-4
pump, closing body feed discharge and control
valves.

Troubleshooting
Below are several reasons which have caused
prime loss in the past:
Through valve left open and fluid in trough has
all been pumped back into system, allowing air
to enter into lines.
Body feed tank has run dry, allowing air to
enter.
If precoating or circulating and unit leaks badly
around plates, precoat tank may be allowing
air to enter lines due to loss of fluid.
Hose connections are not tight on suction line
somewhere, allowing air to enter.
Return or settling pit has been drained dry and
fluid level is below suction line.
The pump is bad and air is entering somewhere around worn seals or pump gaskets.
