PRESENTATION SCRIPT OF AIRBUS BELUGA (INFRASTRUCTURE AND

TECHNOLOGY)
By: Khairun Nasuha binti Abdul Jamil
Assalamualaikum and good morning to everyone. My name is Khairun Nasuha binti
Abdul Jamil and Im going to talk about the infrastructure and technology that are critical to the
Airbus Belugas operation.
The Airbus operates a fleet of five A300 600 ST aircraft known as Beluga at the
crossroads of Airbus aircraft programmes carrying complete sections of Airbus aircraft from
different production sites around Europe to the final assembly lines in Toulouse or Hamburg. An
airborne heavy hauler allowed such transport endeavors to bypass geographic and
infrastructure limitations dotting the European landscape.
Aircraft rely on airport infrastructure to operate in a safe and efficient manner. The fifth
Beluga serves as a back up for Airbus and is also offered to fulfil transport services in the market
outside Airbus. In order to serve the additional market, Airbus Industrie created the subsidiary
airline company Airbus Transport International (ATI) in 1996. ATI is based at Toulouse in
France next to the Airbus production facilities. In the airport, Cargo Terminal Facilities are areas
where international airports export cargo has to be stored after customs clearance and prior to
loading on the aircraft. Similarly import cargo that is offloaded needs to be in bond before the
consignee decides to take delivery. Areas have to be kept aside for examination of export and
import cargo by the airport authorities. One of designated areas or sheds given to Airbus. Every
cargo terminal has a landside and an airside. The landside is where the exporters and importers
through Airbus agents deliver or collect shipments while the airside is where loads are moved to
or from the aircraft. In addition cargo terminals are divided into distinct areas export, import
and interline or transshipment. Because all airports are different, Airbus works together with the
involved stakeholders including airlines, airports, civil aviation authorities, and ground
handling companies to facilitate daily aircraft operations. As part of this commitment, Airbus is
able to calculate, simulate and optimise the time needed for aircraft turnarounds, and it can
perform compatibility assessments for its aircraft with existing handling and servicing equipment
along with supporting the development of new ground support equipment.

Next, the technology of Airbus Beluga. Space hardware manufacturers use the Beluga for
reliable charter flights with payloads that have included space station modules, launch vehicle
hardware and the most delicate satellite payloads. A pallet-mounted heating module provides a
comfortable environment for spacecraft and other cargo that requires temperature-controlled
conditions. The aircraft retained use of the A300 600s twin turbofan engine layout, one engine
was fitted in underslung nacelles to each wing, while the undercarriage was wholly retractable
and made up of two four wheeled main legs and a two wheeled main landing gear leg. The
end result was a very ugly, though highly functional, heavy hauler in the Airbus Beluga. In
addition, the Beluga offers unique transport capabilities for the military airlift market, providing
the largest main deck cargo compartment of any aircraft available today. The Beluga is a highly
modified version of the A300-600 and features one of the widest fuselage cross-sections of any
aircraft, civil or military. Tailored for the transport of heavy and voluminous cargo loads, the
Super Transporter is able to carry a payload of 47 metric tonnes (103,616 lb.) over a range of 900
nautical miles (1,667 km).
Thats all for me. I will hand over next presentation to my friend, Hisham. Thank you for
listening.
