Nitobond SBR20*

Water resistant polymer latex bonding admixture

Uses
For improving and bonding floor toppings, renderings and
mortars; repair of worn, damaged and spalled concrete;
bonding of slip bricks, tiles, stone etc. repair of large cracks;
polymer modified floor screeds; waterproof render and
slurries.
Advantages
Simple to use: Single component gauge as required.
High
adhesion:

Provides excellent bond to concrete

masonry, stonework, plaster and blockboard.

Improve
durability:

Gives weather resistant mortar with

improved freeze/thaw stability.

Reduce
permeability:

Provides waterproof screeds, renders and

slurries.

Chemical Resistant: Cementitious based materials have

limited chemical resistance. The addition of Nitobond SBR20
to cement mortars reduces permeability and therefore helps
reduce the rate of attack by aggressive chemicals.
Application instructions
Preparation
The object of the preparation is to achieve a clean sound
surface with a good mechanical key. All substrates should be
cleaned and free of dust, plaster, oil, paint, grease, corrosion
deposits and any other deleterious substances. Excess
laitance should be removed by mechanical means. Oil or
greasy deposits can be removed with Chemical Degreaser, all
surface so treated should be thoroughly washed with clean
water. Smooth substrates must be mechanically roughened
e.g. by scabbling, needle gun or grit blasting to provide an
adequate key.
Any steel in the repair area should be exposed around its full
circumference and cleaned to remove all loose scale and
corrosion deposits.
Remove all surface dust and debris.

Increase
strength:

Improved tensile and flexural properties

allow thin applications.

Priming

Versatile

Compatible with all common hydraulic

cement.

Immediately before priming the concrete substrate should be

thoroughly dampened with water with any excess being
brushed off.

Cost effective: Nitobond SBR20 is economical to use.

Nitobond SBR20 is a modified styrene butadiene (SBR) latex
specially designed for use as a bonding aid and gauging
liquid for cementitious systems. It is resistant to hydrolysis
and can therefore be used for external applications.
Properties
Mechanical Characteristics: Typical improvement in
mechanical properties of a 3:1 sand/cement mortar using
Nitobond SBR20.

All surfaces must be primed by thoroughly scrubbing in a slurry

coat of: 1 volume Nitobond SBR20 to 3 volumes fresh cement.
In order to obtain a smooth consistency the cement should be
blended slowly into the liquids. Stir frequently during use to
offset settlement.
Avoid "puddling" of the slurry coat. The topping must be
applied on to the wet slurry. If the slurry dries out it must be
removed and the clean substrate re-primed.

Health and Safety

Nitobond SBR20 is non-toxic. However it should not be
ingested and if it comes into contact with the eyes, wash
immediately with plenty of water and seek medical treatment.
Nitobond SBR20 is slightly alkaline, skin contact should be
avoided, gloves and protective clothing should be worn.

Recommandations
