Sound and music are important for development of unborn baby

I.

Introduction

As we all know, the unborn baby can hear the sound from his outer environment or from out of the
womb. There are a few reasons why the sound and music are very important for development of the
unborn baby such as the fetus is having first language lessons in the womb, the music and sound as a
calming sensation and it help the brain development of the prenatal.

II.

The first reason why the sound and music are very important to the development of the unborn
baby is because the fetus is having first language lessons in the womb
a. What the baby learns in utero are the into national patterns of sound and the
frequencies of a language in his/her particular culture. (Cash, 2008)
b. Verny and others have noted that babies have a preference for stories, rhymes, and
poems first heard in womb. When the mother read out loud, the sound is received by
her baby via bone conduction. (Giselle Whitwell & Ruth Fridman, 1999)
c. Some studies show if the unborn child hears the same music over and over again it may
be able to remember it outside the womb. (Geeta Bhatnagar, 2008)
d. Research has shown that babies can learn in utero and they recognise the sound of
familiar voices, nursery rhymes, music and even TV programmes! (Andrea Millbank,
2010)

III.

Other than that, calming sensation are also one of the factor why the sound and music are
important to the prenatal development.
a. Studies have also shown that when a baby recognizes the mothers voice, the babys
heart rate decreases indicating a calming sensation.
b. Music during pregnancy has a positive influence on the mother and the child, creates
positive emotions, eliminate internal contradictions, soothe and adjusts the waves of
love. (Milena Elshamy, 2011)
c. I feel a babys reactions to music have to do more with the mood and excitability of the
mother and her heart rate in reaction to music. If the mother is tense and stressed, her
heart beats faster and her blood pressure rises and vice versa. (Geeta Bhatnagar,2008)

IV.

Last but not least, the reason why the sound and music are very important to the unborn baby is
it help the brain development of the unborn baby.
a. provide a foundation sound form an important developmental component in prenatal
life because they provide a foundation for later learning and behaviour. With sound, the
fetal stimulate the brain functions at a higher level of organization. (Giselle Whitwell &
Ruth Fridman, 1999)

b. Frequently listening to music while pregnant has been linked to increased brain and
sensory development. We all learn from repeated exposure to something; this also true
for your baby. If your baby is exposed to different type of music while in your belly, his
or her brain will be forced to grow and develop, learning to recognize different type of
sound.
c. Yehudi Menuhin, a famous British violinist, was often quoted as saying that his own
musical talent can be attributed to the fact that his parents were always singing and
playing music before he was born. (Ayesha Nasir, 2009)
d. The element of music, namely tonal pitch, timbre, intensity and rhythm, are also
elements used in speaking a language. For this reason, music prepares the ear, body and
brain to listen to, integrate and produce language sound (Giselle Whitwell & Ruth
Fridman, 1999)
V.

Conclusion
It is proved now that the sound and music are very important and also give benefits to the
unborn baby as the fetus is having first language lessons in the womb, the music and sound as a
calming sensation and it also help the brain development of the prenatal.
