Children love the Blue Pool.

Acres of hills and secret places
to explore, three play areas for
children of all ages and a
Squirrel Hunt to test their
powers of observation.

A former clay pit, the Blue Pool is part of the Furzebrook Estate which
traces its history back nearly 400 years. Dug by hand and abandoned in
the 19th Century to be naturally filled with rain water, the phenomenon
of its ever changing colour from shades of green to a deep turquoise
is truly fascinating. Lying within a deep clay bowl, it is surrounded by 25
acres of heath, mature woodland and gorse,with sandy paths which lead
up to views of the Purbeck Hills or down steps to the waters edge.

Young people who visited us

with their parents in the 1950s
come back again with their
own children and
grandchildren.

We were granted Site of Special Scientific Interest status in recognition

of the rare wildlife and habitat within the Grounds Dartford Warblers,
Sand Lizards, Dragonflies and Buzzards make their homes here and, if
you are very quiet, you may see a herd of our wild deer.
Its astonishing what a sense of peace can be found at the Blue Pool even
on one of our busiest days. There is truly nothing else like it and all the
family from Toddlers to Grandparents can enjoy their day with us.
Dont forget to visit the Museum if youre interested in our four centuries
of history and no visit would be complete without dropping into our
Gift Shop for gifts, books and toys and for those with green fingers,
the Plant Centre will convince you that there is space in that border
for just one more colourful shrub!
Why not buy a Season Ticket? Theyre very popular and allow you entry
to the Grounds until the end of November, together with a 10% discount
on purchases at the Gift Shop and Plant Centre.

Be sure to visit our charming TeaHouse which, with
its original pine floors and a log fire has been a
magnet to visitors since we opened in 1935. We have
an imaginative menu of tempting meals which
caters for most dietary needs including gluten and
dairy free products, and our delicious Cream Teas
with freshly baked scones are deservedly famous.
The Blue Pool is a beautiful place for a party or
