VIDEO PROJECT (20%)


THEME:
Labour Laws and Industrial Practice in Malaysia

THE TASK:
This video presentation assignment will represent 20% of your total coursework marks for this semester. Students will work
together in assigned teams to create a video project that address the theme of the video assignment. The presentation should
include appropriate photographs, video, music, graphs, and other visual aids. The final project should be burned to DVD in an
appropriate format. You can search the Internet / You Tube for a wealth of materials and instructions on how to produce your
own video and to get an idea of what other students are doing for their class.

THE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Working together in the assigned team of 4 to 5 students, the students are required to conduct an interview with a
Human Resource practitioner currently working with any company in Malaysia.
i.

The purpose of the interview is to find out about the actual legal and regulatory issues or cases that the company
HR Department faces in their daily operation as well as any in-house mechanism that the company has in resolving
such matters and / or the outcome of such cases

ii.

You may narrow down the topic of your interview to specific areas of labour laws and IR that we have discussed in
class like termination and retrenchment, disciplinary matters, maternity leaves, issues on retirement age,
implementation of minimum wage, sexual harassment etc

You are required to identify and get the consent of the HR practitioner who will be the subject of your interview. A
business card of the said HR practitioner must be included in the final video submission as proof.

2. The team can choose to add short sketches or any other supplementary materials to the video to make it more
interesting
3. The completed video must contain:
i.

an introductory segment by a member / members of the group may be in form of sketches, narration etc

ii.

the main content i.e. the actual interview with the practitioner

iii.

concluding segment concluding remarks made by the group, feedback from public on the issues discussed in the
video etc

4. Length of video: 15 MINUTES MAXIMUM


5. All group members MUST participate in the making of the interview video. Marks will be given based on the group effort
however any member has the right to object to the allocation of marks if he or she feels that any particular member of
the group did not contribute anything/ contribute very little to the project. Any objection will be kept anonymous and the
person complained of will be called to hear his/ her side of the story before final decision is made on the grade.
6. Your final video will be evaluated based on the criteria enumerated in the rubrics given below.
