GS-800 Calibrated Imaging Densitometer

Sole Source Specifications

Bio-Rad's Model GS-800 Calibrated Imaging Densitometer brings unsurpassed accuracy, image quality,
and convenience to densitometery. New for this model is the GS-800's ability to calibrate itself for
transmittance imaging applications to an external standard for accurate, reproducible results, every time.
The GS-800 includes Bio-Rad’s Quantity One® software for the analysis of 1-D gels, blots, arrays and
dot/slot blots. The instrument is compatible with both the Macintosh and PC platforms. The high
performance model GS-800 Calibrated Imaging Densitometer is well suited for all of your DNA, RNA,
and protein analysis requirements.

• Variable scanning resolution for rapid image acquisition

• Full 12-bit pixel depth for accurate quantification
• Linear dynamic range from 0 to 3.0 OD
• Variable wavelength light source from 400 nm to 750 nm for high sensitivity.
• Transmittance and reflectance modes to suit many kinds of samples
• Easy-to-use Quantity One® software for Mac and PC for greater flexibility
• Color scanning capability for desktop publishing capabilities

Customized for Scientific Densitometery

Unlike conventional desktop scanners, the GS-800 Calibrated Imaging Densitometer has been
customized for molecular biology research and analysis of gels, autoradiograms, and blots. Custom
features of this system include:

• Powerful software for rapid MW determination and concentration analysis

• Sealed platen for scanning wet samples
• Modified transmittance lid to protect fragile gels and thick samples
• Industry-unique built in Kodak calibration targets for unrivaled reproducibility and accuracy
• Compatible with specialized software packages for 2-D gel analysis, RFLP, and DNA sequencing

Flexible High Resolution

The Model GS-800 Calibrated Imaging Densitometer provides quality imaging to resolve and quantify
even the closest bands. With the variable resolution feature, you can preview your sample in seconds.
With the preview image displayed, use the mouse to select a region of the image to scan at a higher
resolution. Variable resolution scanning gives you control over scanning speed and image file size.

Software as easy as 1, 2, 3!
With Bio-Rad's Quantity One® software, hardware control and downstream analysis couldn't be simpler.
Just follow 3 simple onscreen steps and you’ve acquired your image! With our easy-to-use onscreen
help, and extensive help files, even the most difficult answer is right at your fingertips. The software
includes Quick Guides that allows you to choose what type of analysis you wish to perform, and the
software will guide you every step of the way!

High Sensitivity
The Model GS-800 Imaging Densitometer is ideal for especially high sensitivity imaging. With red,
green, and blue color CCD technology, scan virtually any sample (1-D and 2-D gels, dot and slot blots,
autoradiograms, slides, and photographs) at the proper wavelengths for greater sensitivity and accuracy.
Scan red-colored samples without the sensitivity problems found with laser densitometers.

Here are examples of some of the imaging applications that are possible on the GS-800.

Filter Color Application Examples

Red Coomassie G-250, 4CN, Methylene Blue, Copper Stain
Green Coomassie R-250, BCIP/NBT, DAB, Colloidal Gold, Amido Black, Silver Stain, Zinc
Stain, Film, Photographs
Blue Crocein Scarlet, Film

Calibrated Transmittance
Unlike laser densitometer systems, the Model GS-800 Calibrated Imaging Densitometer has calibrated
transmittance capabilities that allow accurate scans of gels, films, and slides.
