Question 1
1.

Children learn best by observing the behavior of adults and copying it. Do you agree or
disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

In the waking of the development of this society, children tend to learn everything fast. In each
period of their lives, they learn in different ways. This essay will discuss whether children learn
best by observing the behavior of adults and copying it.
Its true that children learn best by observing the behavior of adults and copying it. First of all,
children are from new born to 5 years old have habit of aping the grown-ups. They talk in tongue
and gesture like those they meet often. Secondly, they dont know any languages from birth and
after about 3 years copying and listening to other people they can talk and understand
automatically. Their abilities of aping are very fast. Besides, its hard for adults to lean languages
because adults cant learn by observing others and copying it. The third point is that children are
not only learn languages fast but also aping the behavior of adults, they imitate what their parents
do. For example, theyll empty the rubbish to the right place if their parents have that habit. Some
four to five children can be perfect dancers because of excellent observing and copying from
famous singers, dancers They are expecting to become professional.
However, children dont learn best by observing the behavior of adults and copying it when
they are at the age of over ten. As growing up, children also begin to get acquainted with different
environments. They will improve their thought themselves in educational environment. Another
point is that they will have friends, have chances to study with good methods and they
communicate much more with their friends at school than with adults. Thats why this time they
tend to learn and arrange the knowledge as logical as possible, observing and copying are also
helpful and support them in this period. Furthermore, they know how to pick and choose whats
good and suitable for themselves. They will get and learn lessons from their friends, teachers and
parents.
In summary, I agree with the opinion that children learn best by observing the behavior of
adults and copying it. I also believe that they would learn best by studying from their friends at
school by selecting what comes to them.

Question 2
2. What do schools need to do to prepare students for the 21st Century? Discuss your
opinions.

As teacher, we constantly strive to prepare our students for the real world that exists around
them. We teach them how to read, write, and calculate. Then, of course, there are the less tangible
skills we teach; such as how to work in a team, think critically, and be curious about the things
they encounter each day.
We want to prepare them to lead productive and successful lives once they leave us and enter
into the realm of adulthood. But what lies ahead for our students in the future? Did educators of
twenty years ago know that so much of our world would be based on computers and technology
now? Could they have known what skills would be needed in the job market today? Unlikely, but
yet they had to do their best to prepare their students for this world anyhow. Nowadays, educators
are still charged with the same complicated task preparing students for the unknown..
We may not know exactly what lies ahead for our students in the future, but we have the
advantage of knowing what skills they will need once they get there. Here are the 7 survival skills
of the 21st century, along with how they may look being purposefully applied in a classroom.
Skills: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
Preparation:
Students will need to develop their skills at seeing problems from different angles and formulating
their own solutions. Regardless of the field they choose to enter for their careers, the ability to
think and act quickly is an indispensable tool for the future. To practice this, teachers should
present students with situations in which they need to figure things out for themselves where
skills that they have already developed can be drawn upon and applied to help them figure out a
problem.
The problem should ideally lend itself to multiple solutions, as we do not want to teach students
that there is only one answer available, but instead that problem-solving can be a creative and

OUMH1203SMP

personal experience. Situational problems in mathematics provide a good example of these skills at
work. The problem should ideally lend itself to multiple solutions, as we do not want to teach
students that there is only one answer available, but instead that problem-solving can be a creative
and personal experience. Situational problems in mathematics provide a good example of these
skills at work.
Skills: Collaboration Across Networks and Leading by Influence
Preparation:
Not every person is born a natural leader.
However, the ability to lead others can definitely help a person to advance and become successful
in their chosen career. Also, finding a job where you dont need to be able to work closely and
harmoniously with others can be quite a difficult task. To best prepare students in this area, more
than just the typical teamwork is required. Instead of simply getting into a group and splitting the
tasks with each other, students should instead be encouraged to take on different roles within their
group for each task within the project.
Sometimes they can be the manager and at other times they can be an organizer or a graphic
designer. There are many different roles that students can fill during a project with their peers that
allows them to work with others in a more collaborative way than just breaking apart a project and
then putting it back together in the end.
Skills: Agility and Adaptability
Preparation:
If we look back at the last twenty years we can see how much has changed in the workplace and
the world.
Our students need to be comfortable with the idea of change and be willing to adapt to the changes
around them. Teachers can create a very dynamic environment within the classroom that can help
to prepare students for the future. Varying the teaching strategies we use, the setup of the
classroom, the ways that learning is demonstrated by students, and even the guidelines for group
work or homework can help students learn to adapt.

OUMH1203SMP

820916016576

Have students create a storyline, for example, then surprise them with a mandatory element to
incorporate, or even have them switch work and complete a task based on the preparations of
another. They might grumble at first, but the skills will serve them well!
Skills: Initiative and Entrepreneurship
Preparation:
Students need to be able to take initiative and contribute to the world. We should encourage these
skills within our classrooms and our communities. Our students can be incredibly creative and
interested in shaping their experience in the classroom, so we can ask them for much more than a
list of classroom rules and consequences.
Let them know that you are available and willing to listen to any of their ideas about improving the
classroom or school. Help them organize their ideas and put them into practice even if an idea
may fail. It can be a valuable lesson about how to analyze what went wrong and consider how to
improve the idea. Students should never be afraid of trying because they are afraid of failure.
Skills: Effective Oral and Written Communication
Preparation:
Despite advances in technology, these skills never diminish in importance. Think of a boss or
manager sending you an email full of grammatical errors or presenting a new business plan while
speaking too low and reading the entire presentation off a sheet of paper. What would you honestly
think? Consider some of the best communicators you have seen what makes them rise above the
rest? We need to teach our students how to speak confidently and clearly.
This doesnt come naturally, but with practice; enunciation, speed, volume, gestures, and eyecontact can all be taught and learned. The same skills that help in drama can help in oral
communication. Take a moment one day to begin teaching a lesson in a very ineffective way and
see how long it takes your students to ask what youre doing they should be able to tell you
exactly whats wrong with your communication skills! As for written communication, we need to
continue to emphasize the rules while also teaching students how to use the technology available to
8

OUMH1203SMP

them to help check their writing. The difference between formal and informal writing is quite
important for students to learn and start applying.
Skills: Accessing and Analyzing Information
Preparation:
Students have access to unimaginable amounts of information today. The Internet provides an
incredible research tool that can be their best friend or worst enemy. Accessing information is easy,
but accessing good information tends to be more complicated. Students need to be taught how to
sift through the millions of web pages available on a topic and find what they need (and be able to
trust what they find). They need to learn the difference between factual information and factualsounding opinions.
Many students today will check answer websites to gather information, not really thinking about
how the information was written by a person who may or may not be correct or truly
knowledgeable in a subject area. In the same way a teacher can think-aloud reading strategies, we
can think-aloud Internet searching strategies. Project your screen on the board and learn about a
topic with your students. Show them how to search, and how to use those answer sites without
being misled!
Skills: Curiosity and Imagination
Preparation:
Our students come to us naturally curious about their world and wanting to explore it. Their
imaginations are vast and untamed, creating endless amounts of practical and impractical things.
Our task as educators has less to do with teaching them how to be curious and imaginative, and
more to do with not taking that away from them. We need to continue to encourage them to
develop these skills, as well as teach them how to apply them creatively and purposefully. Imagine
the little boy who loves soldiers and robots, but hates princesses.

OUMH1203SMP

820916016576

How do you react when he shows you his freshly-drawn picture of a soldier using a robot-inspired
weapon to destroy a princess? Do you celebrate his creativity in the same way you celebrate the
world-saving-robot drawn by the student next to him? Is his picture hung on the wall? We dont all
like and appreciate the same things, so an educator must be very careful about how they nurture
and develop their students creativity and imagination. We can teach them which things are
appropriate in which situations without making them feel like their ideas are wrong or bad. So, the
real intent of such rigor is to make the student a more thought-full place.

Question 3
4. Technology is making communication easier in todays world, but at the expense of
personal contact as many people choose to work at home in front of a computer screen.

10

OUMH1203SMP

820916016576

What dangers are there for a society which depends on computer screens rather than faceto-face contact for its main means of communication?
Technology and working in front of a computer is an incredible inspiration. Technology is
determined to make our lives easier. This is an amazing revolution in human's way of
communicating. At the present time, communication has become less complicated because of
technological enlargement.
Especially the personal interaction is influenced because many internet subscribers wish to stay
at home and use their computers as a way to communicate. We sometimes feel like throwing our
computers out the window or going on vacation. Ultimately technology gives us a wealth of
opportunities to have more comfortable. But there are also effects about this like compromise in
humans health and less attachment with other human beings.
Some contemporary technologies that make life easier are household appliances such as
washing machine, dishwasher etc. These make household tasks less inconvenient. Computers and
mobile phones make communication between distance areas very easily reachable. Now we have
urban transportation which makes traveling faster and easier with less traffic.
People who are facing computers at work in home have risks in their health by being not
moving from there. These people sit most of the time while they are working. They no longer have
to move around like to walk, talk, dress-up and go up-and down the stairs or do other things
physically. As a result this might cause them to be overweight, fat and other illnesses might
activate. Lack of exercise can cause heart disease and staying long in front of the computer
can cause eye damage.

Furthermore people who spend time with technology can drop personal attachments with other
people like their family, relations and friends. Because they use computers as a tool for
communication via instant messaging services like Skype and Email services. They do not have
11

OUMH1203SMP

820916016576

liked to personally interact with other human beings and their bonding with others may depreciate.
Working in front of a computer is although a fantastic idea on the opposing side internet users must
be aware of dangerous consequences and that could affect their health and attachment with other
humans.

Question 4
6. Why is community service important in todays world?

12

OUMH1203SMP

820916016576

Community service has been a forever, long service done through giving people of
communities in the effort to bring up their neighborhood. These selfless acts of kindness have been
passed through the generations with the same undertones. As volunteering services have grown
through the times, there are now more available means of community services for people to
involve themselves with. Those who taken on community service projects have greatly benefited
from their work, gaining memorable experiences, and building unique character traits.
For those who are unfamiliar with volunteering, the thought of commitment comes to mind.
The commitment that is made to volunteering is slightly different, for in most volunteering
situations, you create as much of a commitment as you want. People have the option to volunteer
as much of their own time as they are willing, still allowing them to remain focused on their
school, work, and personal lives. As there are some services that do ask for a longer time
commitment, you still are able to give as much time for a certain project as you want.
Students are always encouraged to volunteer for not only the experience and character
building, but also for applying for colleges. The admission levels for universities is becoming more
competitive, asking for more out incoming students. One major tool that has been helpful to setting
themselves apart from most of their peers is their volunteering services. It is recommended that
students volunteer in subjects and projects that they have an interest in, so that this way, it
promotes their efforts within the volunteering community. Students have volunteered at soup
kitchens, museums, elderly homes, and at school projects. What the students put into their
volunteering experiences will show immensly in their character. As these experiences are pointed
out on their applications, students have heard more acceptances than rejections.
Through volunteering, people who need an outlet for their character trait of being kind and
selfless, have been able to receive that satisfaction. People have sometimes toiled with the notion
of wanting to find some way to give back to their community, and help those that cannot help
themselves. Those in this situation have been able to volunteer at soup kitchens and have
discussions with people they serve, brightening up their day and making them smile. Others have
gone to hospitals and aided with the elderly, having conversation with them and listening to stories
of a time long ago, gaining wisdom. The elderly in this situation are always more than thankful for
13

OUMH1203SMP

820916016576

someone to have a conversation with someone and being listened to, especially if you are someone
who enjoys playing a game of chess! In the same scene, volunteers are also able to work with
children, playing games with them, reading and painting with them. Again, putting a smile on their
face is all the payment a volunteer needs to make them feel grateful for doing this type of service.
Many people who have volunteered gain a type of growth that some can not get anywhere
else. Volunteers are given the opportunity to see this life from a variety of different angles, giving
them, at the end of the day, a sense of humility for their own lives. When a person volunteers, they
are able to give as much of their time as they want, making the commitment their own. One of the
easiest things about volunteering is getting involved. There are countless organizations and
charities that are always looking for an extra hand to put a smile on someone's face. With all the
opportunities available to volunteer, a person can find their way into something that could change
not just their life, but also the life of another.
In conclusion, I believe that choosing to help community through community service
should be very important to the people around us. I feel that helping in our community to benefit
will bring good things while also making the person and/or persons you helped feel cared about.

Question 5

7. Tourism is becoming increasingly important as a source of revenue for many countries but
its disadvantages should not be overlooked. What are some of the disadvantages of
tourism?
Tourism, holiday making and travel are frequently increasing social aspect of the world. It is a
leisure activity to visit features of a place like landscape and town scape away from home but very
beautiful and historical to see and admire. Many tourist want their journey to be very different and
interesting so, they visit some particular places that are now termed as tourist destinations where
tourist can relax and feel a sort of change from their ordinary life. These places are gaining profit
in revenue by tourism and now it is becoming all time business for these places and this is forming
many disadvantages to tourists.
Plan your holidays to a place is becoming a fashion these days for visitors. As they think
planing long holiday trips is just to show off their money status in the society. In this business
everyone involved in earning huge amount of profits such as airlines give monthly passage for a
destination and these monthly criteria takes a hand full of money from tourist's pocket. The
government of these places also take some charges from tourists as to ensure their visit and to
make economic gain from tourism, government constantly advertises these places through media
like film shooting as these are allowed if the directors agrees to show the beautiful tourist sights in
their movies.
Even the small scale shops earn profits by doubling the price of product which tourists are
buying and hotels too double their rates for them. Thus, this increases the economy of that place
and thus, tourism is responsible for developing more hotels with larger areas, more sophisticated
shops, more interesting from different agencies side. This all progress is leading to deforesting
acres of land to form these facilities and that place's natural beauty is in danger of extinction.
Tourist are looted by all means in these places an crimes like robbery, murder, molestation, etc and
tourist are increasing in these places day by day. Nowadays, tourist are getting alert of these
incidents and they are avoiding a visit to these places.

15

OUMH1203SMP

820916016576

Generally, we hear in news about decline in tourist rate in a particular place this might be
the result of all these practice. I am saying we should not gain profit from tourism but we should
not try illegal methods to gain more profit because it will destroy the values of the place from the
international tourist destination places and also reduce your long term gain from tourism. All the
disadvantages cannot be overlooked by both tourist and government, they should act accordingly.
