Brand identity: The brand

identity is placed just before

the title. It links the contents
to the front cover and also
tells the reader the magazines
name. This is also bold and
has a black and white border
to make it bolder.

Main image: The main image

for the contents page is a girl
standing beside a tour bus.
The mise-en-scene (tour bus)
in this picture indicates to the
readers what the article will
be about. From seeing the
tour bus they can assume the
article will be about tours.
This links well with the article
snippet for a touring special.
This advertises what is going
to be in the magazine about
different tours. There are
links to pages that tell the
reader what pages certain
articles are on. This snippet is
central on the page; it is the
middle of three columns. This
magazine follows codes and
conventions as most
magazines have three
columns on their contents
page.

Target audience: Down the

left side of the page area list
of bands that will feature in
the magazine. This tells the
reader what the genre of
music the magazine is. It also
tells the reader the target
audience as they will be
people who listen to that type
of music.

Analysis of music magazine contents page from NME

Main heading/Title: The main heading is situated
across the top of the page. Its bold and stands out
on the page and can be easily seen. As its white it
links with the colour scheme nicely which is red,
white and black. It is also in a black box, this makes
the title stand out more as contrasts with the white
box.
Date: The date the magazine was
released is just under the main
heading.

Article titles/contents: Down

the right side of the page
there are article titles to tell
you what different sections
there are in the magazine for
example there is a section on
news and another on
reviews. These have sub
headings that indicate what
articles the reader can find in
the magazine. There are also
page numbers beside the sub
headings so the reader
knows what page each article
is on.

Puff/ Advertisement: There

is a puff on the content
page which advertises a
monthly subscription to
NME. Bright colours have
been used to help make
the puff stand out on the
page so the readers will
notice it.

Fonts: Many different

fonts are used on the
contents page; this makes
the contents page more
interesting.

Mode of address: The magazine uses direct

address on the contents page by addressing the
readers by you. By using direct address it makes
the magazine more personal to the reader and
less formal. Another indication that the magazine
is informal is their use of language. For example
they use words like eh? and gigging.
