Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C.
Carey says moving the cases against seven

The kamikaze bore down on the USS Caperton, and

Angelo Recine stood his ground as still-green sailors,
some little more than boys, scattered.
Bullets from the Japanese Zero whizzed by his
head. The gunners mate 3rd class manned the 40 mm
gun and took aim. The pilot in the cockpit was close.
I could see him in the plane, the 90-year-old Toms
River man recalled. He was coming at me just like he
was in front of me. I can still see him. He didnt look
scared to me.
Recine was, he said.
Two years earlier, he was an All-Middlesex County
guard for the New Brunswick High School Zebras
football team. The son of a bricklayer and a Squibbs
factory worker, both Italian immigrants, left school

players criminally charged in connection with the hazing and sexual assault of four teammates inside the
teams locker room will be tried as adults.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey said
Monday he will not ask a judge to waive any of the players, aged 15 to 17, to adult criminal court.
The conduct in which the juvenile defendants engaged was serious, and that is why criminal charges
were filed, Carey said. The appropriate forum for the
resolution of these cases is Middlesex County family
court. Asking the court to waive these seven juvenile
cases to adult court would not best serve the interests of
the victims, the community or the defendants.
The decision was announced Monday to defense attorneys representing the juvenile defendants, who remain under house arrest and in the custody of their parents.
Its the appropriate decision under the circumstances, said Richard Klein, an attorney from East
Brunswick representing one of the defendants.
The decision means the juvenile defendants, if convicted, will face lesser penalties than if they were found
guilty in adult court, and their identities should remain
protected because all juvenile court records are sealed.

Brookdale center shifts

The mannequin in the Navy uniform disappeared

from the Center for World War II Studies and Conflict
Resolution at Brookdale Community College about a
year ago.
Some veterans and volunteers at the center took
that as a bad sign.
Other memorabilia on display at the center, in the
lobby of Bankier Library at the college in the Lincroft
section of Middletown, started to be removed as well,
adding to their concern and anger.
But when a plan was floated to give a rusted piece
of steel in a glass display case at the center back to the

A glitch triggered by the failure to remove a previous program from computers during an upgrade in
September delayed the results from the Monmouth
County election on Nov. 4, County Clerk M. Claire
French said.
Four laptops used to create 916 cartridges that tallied the results in the voting machines were the source

French said. The previous system

French said it was not the fault of the vendor, Dominion Voting Systems Inc. of Denver, nor did the blame
fall on any one individual.
We let the public down on this, and I am personally
disappointed, French said. It shouldnt have happened, and it will not happen again.
