Walls Destroyed

Because of Israels
sinfulness and
unfaithfulness, God
allowed the walls be
destroyed and the
consequences are:
1. Slavery
2. Half of His people were
Exiled
3. Looted place
4. Insecurity,
hopelessness
5. Death due to hunger,
poverty, sickness

The subject of leadership is

of time immemorial. It is as
old as the worlds civilization
itself. In fact, the rise and fall
of civilization throughout
history reflect and are
influenced by the availability
of enlightened, effective
leadership. One of the
biblical examples is
Nehemiah. Let us learn from
his life; a life of prayer and
worship that rebuilt the walls
of Jerusalem
Watching Nehemiah build
walls and lead men, we have
all learned many valuable
lesson on leadership. Among
the most important are the
following:

Nehemiah
cried/weep for
days and weeks
upon learning
the status of his
land and people.
And so with that
the rebuilding
vision had
began.

Vision
Jerusalem,
restored
and flourishing, was an
outward, visible result.
The vision God gave
Nehemiah
was
the
inward, invisible reason.
Just as there can be no
blossom without first a
seed, so there can be
no-life
changing
leadership without first
a vision. Vision is the
ability to see what God
wants to accomplish
through our lives. Vision
changes the future.

Mission / Vision
His Vision is to unite
his people and bring
everybody back to
the center of
worship which is
Jerusalem
His Mission is to
rebuild the walls of
Jerusalem to bring
back the confidence
and trust of his
people.
Eph 1:9-10
Mat 28: 19

Strategy
Vision is a perception a
mental picture. But it he has
plans that is also practical
and detailed. Nehemiah had
clearly defined and wellreasoned plans. Long hours
of praying,
thinking and
planning were the price he
gladly paid to assure the
success of his vision. His
strategy
included
the
techniques and timing of
sharing
his
vision with
others.

Spirituality
The word of God and
prayer
defined
and
empowered Nehemiahs
life. Thus, he knew what
God wanted and he
committed his life to do
it. Like Jesus, he could
say, Not my will but
thine be done.
Obedience to Gods will
One line authority

Courage
Courage comes from
the security of
knowing that
convictions are valid.
No opponent could
block what God was
putting in your mind
to do. Many tried to
stop Nehemiah,
including political
rivals, enemy armies
and traitors. Local
infighting None
succeeded.

Integrity
Nehemiah used his
office to give rather
than to get. He
honoured his
subordinates,
promoted his equals
and gave credit where
credit was due. Not a
hint of scandal
clouded his
accomplishments.
Transparency
Proper stewardship

Discernment
Discernment is a spiritual
sixth sense that comes
from walking close to
God and keeping your
eyes open. Nehemiah
was an astute observer
of men and events. He
was generous but not a
soft touch, loving but
never gullible.

Perseverance

The estimated time

between Nehemiahs call
to the final reforms is
about twenty-five years.
He endured all opposition
to build the walls and
patiently awaited the
spiritual renewal to come
before dedicating them. A
quarter century later he
was called upon to recorrect the same old
problems. He did it with
the same passion.
Nehemiah never quit.

Conclusion
Nehemiah was a man who waited
upon God until he knew what
God wanted. Then he did it
with all his heart. And in doing
it, he ran from no enemy and
turned from no problem. He
knew that the ultimate purpose
for restored walls was to
rebuild people. His heart bled
for the poor; he scorned the
hypocrite; he feared not the
rich and powerful. He abused
none of the privileges of
leadership. His first concern
was the glory of God. His
second, the good of the
people. And what he started,
he finished.

There is a crisis in the quantity

of leaders.
There are simply not enough
of them. Todays leadership
also suffers from a crisis of
quality. Some leadership
failures are moral. Other
mental and motivational. You
dont have to be a big person to
use of God. But just be fully
available.
Nehemiah was a man who
refused to play it safe. He
faced colossal challenges. His
country was is bondage, its
capital city, Jerusalem, lay in
ruins. Nehemiah rebuilt in 52
days walls that had been down
for 140 years.
