QUESTION
What do you understand of ASSURE Model?

ANSWER

We can defined ASSURE model is one of the process that was modified to be used by
teachers in the regular classroom. In the ASSURE model, teachers can use this model to
design and develop the most appropriate learning environment for their students. This process
also can help teaches to become effectiveness during teaching and learning. It is because, this
process may involve some research to do before the teacher will be delivery the information.
ASSURE model may involve several stages before we develop the appropriate model. The step
to develop ASSURE model as below:

1. Analyze learners

The first processes that we have to do to develop ASSURE model is we have to analyzed
learner characteristics. This information will guide our decision during making the design of our
lesson. First of all, we have to know information about student background. The background
information including grade, age, ethnic group, sex, mental, emotional, physical, socioeconomic
and extra. Besides that, as a teacher also we have to know learning styles that we want to
teaching. There are various kinds of teaching styles for example verbal, logical, visual, musical
or structure. All this teaching style based on our student capability and also their abilities.

2. State standards and objectives

After we know deeply about our students background, we can begin writing objectives of
our lesson. Before we start writing our lesson, we have to consider various factors that affecting

our lesson objective. It is because to make sure the learning outcomes will be success. There
are several steps that we have to follow on writing objective. Firstly, we have to identify our
audience or students. Secondly, behaviors to be demonstrate. It is to measure what will the
students or students be able to accomplish after the lesson. Thirdly are conditions under which
the behavior will be observed. It is to measure what tools the students will be allowed to utilize
weather they can use notes or text book. Lastly is degree which the learned skills to be
mastered after learning process.

3. Select instructional methods, media, and materials

After we have an idea what student should get from the lesson, we have to select
appropriate instructional methods, media and materials to achieve the objective. When we
choose instructional methods such as PowerPoint presentation, discussion and hands-on
activity it could be appropriate to meet the objectives for these particular students. While, when
we choose media it should be suited with our instructional method, the objectives and our
students abilities. Media could be text, images, video and computer multimedia. Materials that
provide our students in mastering the objectives. As a teacher, we can also design and create
our materials for the students to use. Materials would be specific software programs, music,
images but would also be equipment such as computer, TV, scanner and extra.

4. Utilize media and materials

In this section, we need to do our lesson and use the media and materials that we are
selected. The most importing is we have to always preview and check the materials whether in
good in condition before using in a classroom. As a teacher also, we have to know how to
operate the equipment even it is electronic equipment. Besides that, we have to set up the
classroom so that whatever we are doing will work in the space that we have. The most

important thing is our instructional materials are suitable and working the best that we can use it
in the classroom.

5. Require learner participation

The effective teaching and learning process should be involving student participation. All
objective should provide students an opportunity to practice skills that builds towards the
objectives. In the classroom, whatever our teaching strategy, we can incorporate question and
answers, discussion, group work, hands-on activities and others way of getting students actively
involved in the learning of the content. As a teacher also, we should have varieties of teaching
skill to make sure our student not bored during teaching and learning process.

6. Evaluate and revise

In these stages, after conducting a lesson, teacher should evaluate of their learning. We
have to evaluate our students performance based on their mastering the objectives. Besides
that, the materials used might not have been appropriate for the grade level of students.
Sometimes the materials might not be very motivating. We also have to evaluate methods and
media. The methods could be not to beyond of students capabilities. It is because to make sure
students can understand and mastering the objectives. After evaluation has been made, teacher
can revise their lesson plan to improve their teaching and learning process. If some part are not
relevant teacher should do corrective to be effective for the n next session.
