RE: Dialogue with UPDs Chief Security Officer
___________________________________________________________
The League of College Councils (LCC) general assembly was held last 7 th
of November 2014 at the Kamia Residence Hall, giving way for a
dialogue with Chief Security Officer Atty. John Baroa, UPDP OIC Capt.
Villaluna, and the rest of the Supervisory Team for Private Security.
According to their report, compared to other crimes, theft and robbery
cases have been rampant in the campus, as well as in areas outside such as
C.P. Garcia, University Avenue, and along Commonwealth. We have then
raised AITs concern regarding the unfortunate experiences of our
students in the footbridge connecting AIT and CHK this first semester
namely, (a) the holdup incidents, (b) people using the footbridge as their
sleeping area, and (c) a man harassing lady students by a show of a selfpleasuring act. We proposed that the presence of security guard(s) would
inhibit these incidents from happening again.
Atty. Baroa recognized AITs state of security as requiring immediate
concern and so their teams temporary solution would be the
assignment of people from the Special Services Brigade (SSB) to
monitor the footbridge. Their team would also conduct an assessment of
the area so that security guards may be requested to man the footbridge as
soon as possible. They have also mentioned that offices concerned with
the security issues are planning to launch a campaign that aims to teach
the students how to avoid being victims of such crimes.
We advise everyone to always be vigilant and cautious especially when in
public places. To avoid loss of items, refrain from leaving your valuables
unattended, may it be in your org tambayan or your car. When crossing
the footbridge, refrain from using or exposing your gadgets to avoid
getting the attention of robbers. Better yet, try to always have someone to
accompany you.
In the event that you witness or personally experience any similar crime,
please do not hesitate to report it to the AIT Student Council.

Cordially yours,

Felizardo Camilon Sarmiento
