A hands on practice with basic sociological

research
Choose a research topic of your interest, Carry out
an opinion survey by conducting a desk research
and gathering some primary data.
Specify in detail what you want to know related to
the topic.
Specify your topic, ( To study students perception
and participation regarding CCA in QUIP)
The above statement specifies
a. who are going to be your population of interest,
b. where are you going to conduct the research(in
uni, any taman etc.)
c. what are your variables, (CCA, Perception,
Participation)
d. what are you going to measure(perception and
practices)
Write about 1,2 pages for introduction of the
topic, discussing main information, back ground
etc.
Describe what others have said about the topic in
their published work(must give reference
Define/describe what do you mean by the
variables by giving either definition or showing
indicators(your questions later will be related to
this)
Explain your topics idea through some theoretical
explanation(Use any three of the theories,
Structural Functionalism, Social Conflict, Symbolic
Interaction)
Choose ten(10) people from your class as
respondents using simple random sampling
Survey, (questionnaire, interview), secondary data
The topics for interview or questions of
questionnaire should be directly related to the
indicators of your variables
Construct almost 15-20 questions
Use data charts, tables, percentages, averages etc
Interpret the results and data overall, giving
conclusions about opinions, trends etc
Provide some suggestions etc if you want
Attach your questionnaire.
Any geographical or social maps if you have any.
Attach any newspaper cutting/photocopies if you
used any.
