Planning is very important for selecting the right type of equipment. The planner has to see
what type of work he is doing & then he should know various types of equipments that can
be used for the work. He should study the capacity & cost of equipment. He also has to see
what types of equipments he is having. He also has to look into the probable life of
equipment & its depreciation. He should go in for equipment, which has minimal
maintenance. Experience is one of the most important aspects for equipment planner.

Nature of Work:Construction of New International Airport 30 km. away from a mega city.
Scope of Work:

Cutting and dozing of 100000 cum. of earth having average height 0.75 m.
Transportation of 5000 cum. earth, 3 km. away from site (Spreading & leveling)
Bringing in 2000 cum. of sand from 20 km. (spreading & leveling)
Requirement of 5000 liters of bitumen per day for 30 days and apron work from
60th day of starting of work. Bitumen to be obtained from refinery at Bongaigaon in
Assam.
Lead time on site is 45 days. Storage facility available on site is 50000 liters.

Calculation for per day of work:-

Earth spreading and leveling

Quantity of earth available for
Filling per hour

= 50 x 3
= 150 cum. per hour

Capacity of bulldozer
(Blade size of bulldozer is
3.5m. x 1.5m. category is 3D )

= 75 cum. per hour

No. of bulldozers required per

Recommendations/Conclusions
Thus, we shall receive 50000 liters bitumen on 59th day after commencement date
of project. So, we can start the work on 60th day with daily consumption of 5000 liters of
bitumen.
Now same as 1st 50000 liters of lot, we would continue the order of remaining 100000 liters
of bitumen. So that we shall receive total 150000 liters of bitumen on 79th day after
commencement dates of project. That means, we have to continue our day of order from 5th
day after commencement of project up to 34th day to finish total order of bitumen.
