2008 National Disaster Relief

Roundtable Meetings at Fort Caswell, NC
April 21, 2008 was the beginning of 4 days of
prayer, worship, meetings, and training work-
shops with our Disaster Relief State Directors
and their associates from all over the United
States. On Monday, Ronda assisted our team
in the registration office by making badges and
giving out information packets to the 350 at-
tendees. Randy helped unload material and
setup the training rooms for classes which be-
gan on Tuesday. Our Adult Volunteer Mobili-
zation Team is like a well oiled machine work-
ing together to make it happen.
We held evangelism workshops on Tuesday
and Wednesday. We gave out evangelism
training packets to all the State Directors.
How exciting it is to equip and challenge vol-
unteers to share their faith. We also trained 8
people in an evangelism train-the-trainer
class. These folks were equipped with the re-
sources needed to teach evangelism to their
Disaster Relief Volunteers. We were privileged
to meet many wonderful people, all with the
same kindred spirit of serving others. There
were encouraging comments made regarding
evangelism and we saw excitement in their
eyes as they talked about sharing Christ.
What’s to Come
On Friday May 16th, Randy goes to Lincolnton, NC for the
fourth NC Baptist Men Disaster Relief training. The final
training will be in Robbinsville, NC on June 6th and 7th.

trained as a Disaster Relief Volunteer) On the evening of
June 7th, we will drive to Bryson City, NC where we will
conduct training in evangelism and prayer walking for
Families on Mission (see www.namb.org/fom for informa-
tion) group serving in Western North Carolina. There are
approximately 150 family members who are coming to NC
on their annual “family mission trip”. We will return home
for a few days and then leave on Friday June 13th to drive to
Fort Smith, Arkansas for the National Campers on Mission
Rally where we will be holding evangelism workshops . We
will be returning home around June 22nd. Randy continues
to work on a Disaster Relief Manual and preparing material
for upcoming training as Ronda plans out the next trip.
We leave for Opal, Wyoming mid July for two weeks. We
ask for your prayers as we travel the roads and airways and
as we equip and challenge beleivers to share their faith.

More Exciting News:

While at Fort Caswell we were able to spend a
few hours with our friends Wade and Laura
Gayler. Wade is the Disaster Relief Director
for the Utah-Idaho Baptist State Convention.
We are excited to say that the Utah-Idaho Dis-
aster Relief feeding unit will be used to serve
mission Volunteers in Opal, Wyoming July
18th through August 3rd. Approximately 85 Disaster Relief Evangelism Training—Greenville, NC
volunteers have signed up to go to Wyoming
with “Experiencing God through Missions”, led Jeremiah 9:23-24—This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise

The Love of Jesus and the NC Baptist Men
We met Sandra in Wake County at a
North Carolina Disaster Relief train-
ing event. After Randy’s evangelism
training, Sandra came up to us and
starting sharing her heart’s story.
Her story goes like this: On March
19th, 2007, the home her father built
and where she had lived for 40
years, was destroyed by fire. She
could not believe this had happened
and really did not know where to
turn. Her friend searched for help on
the Internet. They found an organi-
zation called the NC Baptist Men
Disaster Relief, which was new to
both of them. Sandra made contact
with the NCBM and a nice gentlemen
by the name of Lynn Hunnicutt came
out to assess her situation. After
making the assessment, Lynn told San-
dra he could not promise anything at
this point. He then ask her, “What will
you do if we are unable to help you?”
Sandra’s answer was, “If you can’t help,
then God will send someone else.” A
few days later Sandra received a call
that the NCBM would be able to help
her. She was so excited about this op-
portunity and she knew God had sent
them. When the Baptist men and
women arrived to start work on her
home, Sandra was so amazed by their
love, by their commitment and by the
joyful way in which they came in to do
work for someone they did not know.
As they organized to begin work, they
gathered in a circle to pray over the job
and to pray for Sandra. As the prayer
began, Sandra said she had not felt
love like that since she was a young
child. She was overwhelmed with
the heart of these people. Her com-
ment was God’s people showed up
to glorify the Lord, not to impress
man. From this experience, Sandra
praises God for the NC Baptist Men.
She has taken the Disaster Relief
Training so that she can help some-
one else. What an encouraging tes-
timony!
