NEW YORK PUBLIC RADIO ANNOUNCES FOUR ADDITIONS
TO ITS BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Richard Brail, MaryAnne Gilmartin, Loretta Brennan Glucksman, and
Brad Whitman Named to the New York Public Radio Board of Trustees
(New York, NY October 9, 2014) New York Public Radio today announced that Richard Brail,
Managing Director and Head of the Media, Entertainment, Communications and Technology
Group at Peter J. Solomon Company, and MaryAnne Gilmartin, President and CEO of Forest City
Ratner Companies, have been elected to its Board of Trustees. Loretta Brennan Glucksman,
Chairman Emeritus of the American Ireland Fund, and Brad Whitman, Vice Chairman in the
Financial Institutions Group at Morgan Stanley, were also recently elected to the Board at the
Spring meeting of the Board of Trustees.
As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, New York Public Radio is governed by an independent
Board of Trustees that meets regularly throughout the year. There are currently 35 NYPR Trustees,
headed by Cynthia King Vance, Chair. Information on all Trustees can be found here.
Rich, MaryAnne, Loretta, and Brad bring vast experience in business, media and non-profit
governance that will advance both the work of the Board and the mission of New York Public

These accomplished leaders bring a passion for public radio and new and valuable

reach for even more ambitious heights at New York Public Radio.
Richard Brail is currently a Managing Director and Head of the Media, Entertainment,
Communications and Technology Group at the Investment Banking firm Peter J. Solomon
Company. Prior to joining PJSC in 2009, Mr. Brail spent 18 years as an M&A banker at Morgan
Stanley where he specialized in advising clients across the media, entertainment,
communications and technology sectors. Mr. Brail has advised clients in the music industry
including SiriusXM, Sony, EMI, Warner Music Group, Universal, Bertelsmann and Denon & Marantz
in transactions in music publishing, recorded music, radio and digital music distribution, and
audio equipment. He has also advised extensively on transactions involving content creation
and distribution, digital media and mobile communications. Mr. Brail is a graduate of the
University of Pennsylvania where he received a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School
(Finance Concentration) and a B.A. from the College of Arts and Sciences (Philosophy Major).
He received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
MaryAnne Gilmartin is President and Chief Executive Officer of Forest City Ratner Companies.
She has been point person in the development of some of the most high-profile real estate
projects in New York City. Ms. Gilmartin led the efforts to build Barclays Center and Pacific Park
Brooklyn, a 22-acre mixed-use development. Ms. Gilmartin also oversaw the development of The
New York Times Building, designed by Renzo Piano and New York by Gehry, the tallest residential
building in the Western Hemisphere, designed by Frank Gehry. In addition to these projects, Ms.

Gilmartin has managed the commercial portfolio at MetroTech Center in Downtown Brooklyn,
which consists of 6.7 million square feet of Class A office space. Ms. Gilmartin served proudly for
over 7 years on the New York City Ballet Advisory Board. Currently, Ms. Gilmartin serves as a
Board Trustee for the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM); a Member of the Board of Governors of
the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY); and as a Member of the Industry Advisory Board of
the MS Real Estate Development Program at Columbia University.
Loretta Brennan Glucksman is Chairman Emeritus of The American Ireland Fund, the largest
philanthropic organization to raise funds to support programs of peace, culture, education and
community development in Ireland. After a decade-long career as an English teacher, Ms.
Brennan Glucksman was a producer of news and public affairs for PBS-TV. Ms. Brennan
Glucksman was awarded Honorary Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the
Royal Hibernian Academy of Art and the Royal Irish Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is a
board member of the Industrial Development Authority of Ireland, the National Gallery of Ireland
and the Glucksman Gallery, University College Cork. At New York University, Ms. Brennan
Glucksman is a member of the Sir Harold Acton Society and serves as Chairman of the
Glucksman Ireland House, the center for Irish studies at NYU that was endowed by her husband,
Lewis.
Brad Whitman is a Vice Chairman in the Financial Institutions Group at Morgan Stanley based in
New York. He previously served as a Managing Director at Lehman Brothers and subsequently
Barclays Capital, where he was Head of Financial Institutions Mergers & Acquisitions and CoHead of the Communications Group and Communications Group M&A. In these capacities, Mr.
Whitman advised Capital One on its $9.0 billion acquisition of ING Direct USA, Discover on its $4.2
billion acquisition of Citigroups Student Loan Corp., Barclays on its $15.2 billion sale of BGI to
Blackrock, Lehman Brothers on its $1.8 billion sale to Barclays, AT&T on its $89.6 billion acquisition
of BellSouth, Sprint on its $46.5 billion merger with Nextel, and Cingular on its $47.0 billion
acquisition of AT&T Wireless. He received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from
Amherst College in 1986 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia in 1991, after which he
practiced M&A and securities law at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. Mr. Whitman is also a member
of the Board of Directors of The Fresh Air Fund, which since 1877 has served many of New York
Citys neediest children. Mr. Whitman lives with his wife and two teenagers in Greenwich Village.
