Government Agencies that Protect Consumers

Department of Agriculture (DA)

The Department is the government agency


responsible for the promotion of agricultural
development by providing the policy framework, public
investments, and support services needed for domestic
and export-oriented business enterprises.
In the fulfillment of this mandate, it shall be the
primary concern of the Department to improve farm
income and generate work opportunities for farmers,
fishermen and other rural workers. It shall encourage
people's
participation in agricultural development through sectoral
representation in agricultural policy-making bodies so that the policies, plans
and programs of the Department are formulated and executed to satisfy their
needs.
It shall also use a bottom-up self-reliant farm system approach that will
emphasize social justice, equity, productivity and
sustainability in the use of agricultural resources.

Department of Health (DOH)


The Department of Health (DOH) is the principal
health agency in the Philippines. It is responsible for
ensuring access to basic public health services to all
Filipinos through the provision of quality health care
and regulation of providers of health goods and
services.

Department of Trade and Industry


(DTI)
The DTI is responsible for realizing the country's
goal of globally competitive and innovative industry
and services sector that contribute to inclusive growth
and employment generation. Pursuant to Philippine
Development Plan (PDP) 2011-2016, we shall
endeavor to improve the business environment, increase productivity and
efficiency, and enhance consumer welfare.
The national organizational set up of the department include Trade and
Investment Promotion Group (TIPG), Industry Development and Trade Policy
Group (IDTPG), Consumer Welfare and Business Regulation Group

(CWBRG), Regional Operations and Development Group (RODG), and the


Management Services Group (MSG). Its hierarchical organization include 33
foreign trade service posts, 16 regional offices, 81 provincial/city/area offices,
13 bureaus, 7 attached agencies, 7 attached corporations, and 10 service
offices.
>Consumer Welfare and Business Regulation Group (CWBRG)
>Bureau of Product Standards (BPS)
The BPS is the National Standards Body of the Philippines established by
Republic Act (RA) No. 4109, otherwise known as the Philippine
Standardization Law, and Executive Order (EO) No. 133.
As the National Standards Body, BPS is mandated to develop,
implement, and coordinate standardization activities in the Philippines. It is
primarily involved in standards development, product certification, and
standards implementation/promotion to raise the quality and global
competitiveness of Philippine products at the same time to protect the interests
of consumers and businesses.
>Bureau of Trade Regulation and Consumer Protection (BTRCP)
The BTRCP functions as a policy-making body and oversees the overall
implementation of trade and consumer protection laws.
>National Consumer Affairs Council (NCAC)
The NCAC was created by virtue of Republic Act (RA) 7394, otherwise
known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines. It was mandated by the law to
improve the management, coordination, and effectiveness of the countrys
consumer programs.

Philippine Medical Association (PMA)


Philippine Medical Association is the premier
medical association of the Philippines, covering medical
practitioners and component medical groups from the
entire country.
It is a member of the World Medical Association and
is a co-founder of the Confederation of Medical Associations of Asia and
Oceania. It is also the co-founder of Medical Associations of
South East Asian Nations.

Philippine Association of Medical


Technologists (PAMET)

The Philippine Association of Medical Technologist (PAMET) is the


national organization of registered Medical Technologists in the Philippines
and is accredited by the PRC as the professional organization of medical
technologists.

Philippine Nurses Association (PNA)


The Philippine Nurses Association, Inc., formerly
known as the Filipino Nurses Association, is an
accredited professional organization of nurses that aims
to promote professional growth towards the highest
standard of nursing. In 2003, the organization was
awarded as the Most Outstanding Accredited Professional
Organization by the Professional Regulatory Commission.

Philippine Dental Association (PDA)


The Philippine Dental Association (PDA) is a
scientific association in the Philippines. It has been an
Accredited Professional Organization by Professional
Regulation Commission (PRC) since 13 August 1975. The
organization is a union with two major dental
organizations, the National Dental Association of the
Philippines and the Sociedad Dental de Filipinas.

Local Government Unit (under DILG)


All divisions below the regional level are called "local
government units (LGUs).According to the Constitution, the
LGUs "shall enjoy local autonomy", and in which the
president exercises "general supervision". Congress enacted
the Local Government Code of 1991 "which shall provide
for a more responsive and accountable local government
structure instituted through a system of decentralization with
effective mechanisms of recall, initiative, and referendum, allocate among the
different local government units their powers, responsibilities, and resources,
and provide for the qualifications, election, appointment and removal, term,
salaries, powers and functions and duties of local officials, and all other
matters relating to the organization and operation of local units."

Kilusang Mamimili sa Pilipinas


An independent and more purposeful and assertive organisation was formed
in 1971, known as the "Kilusan ng mga Mamimili sa Pilipinas.
