This menu is used for entering the HEAD RANK for each HEAD
with 35 digit number and alphabet. The digits can be changed
with [left] and [right] keys and parameters can be changed with
[up] and [down] keys. The digit being changed is marked with
an under bar. Press [ENTER] key to save the settings.
Warning sound goes off when the calculation for verification,
CHECK SUM, is not correct, in order to avoid input error.

keys. The value being selected is marked with an under bar. It returns to the former menu by
pressing [left] key when the cursor is on the head of the left end. It starts with H2 when H1 is
defined as the standard head.
Default: 0 Range: -30 to +30dot (changeable by 0.5dot) 0.5dot is indicated as 1/2.

**Make sure to move the head carriage towards left off the capping unit before performing
this check. It may damage Head, Cap or Wiper Unit.

CAP: Opens and closes the cap


Cap must not be left opened for long time when ink is
loaded. Dried ink may damage Head.

WIPER: Moves the wiper towards front and rear.

**Caution: When moving the carriages by hand, pay attention to
the cap height and wiper position to avoid clashing.
Also, when moving the cap and wiper, pay attention
to the carriages, especially the head.

This is for adjusting and checking the height of the cap.

and checks the communication. First of all, it confirms
if there is the driver for IC detection. The following
display indicates that error is found on driver.

Next, IC communication is checked individually by SLOT.


When a cartridge is inserted, it automatically starts to
communicate with the cartridge IC and checks it. Display
shows [OK], when the communication is done properly.
As cartridge is removed, the next cartridge to be inserted
is displayed. Starting from SLOT1, it continues to
SLOT8 in order. When the check of SLOT8 is
completed, the following message is displayed at the
end of check.

This menu is used for checking Thermistor. It displays the temperatures read from the thermistor placed on the Head1, and the thermistor
placed on the headboard(TH1). The temperature on the left is in Celsius ans the right is in Fahrenheit.
Since the temperature of the device on the headboard may rise, [HEAD] and [BOARD] shows higher temperature than the room temperature.
Confirm that the temperature is not extremely low, such as 0 Celsius, or extremely high, such as 100 Celsius. The temperatures of
[HEAD] and [BOARD] are not necessarily the same.

operations such as Head Wash and Ink Fill are not included.
This menu is used as a correction purpose when a wrong type ink is selected.

It shows [B], when


battery has run out.

This menu is to display and edit the date and time. When it detects the battery exhaustion, [B] is indicated on the time display. In this case,
battery needs to be replaced. However, [B] does not disappear automatically when the battery is replaced. [B] is deleted, when the time is
newly set up with [ENTER] key on the time edit menu.
When the real time clock is not active due to battery exhaustion, the maintenance operation may be performed improperly, such as that it
performs cleaning every time the main power is turned on. The time set here is used for periodic maintenance operations and the time record
of Event Log function. It must be aware that it affects the maintenance operations if the time is changed.
When this setting is changed, it is recorded on Event Log. The time before change is used for the log time, and the new time is recorded as
an information.

This menu is to check Dip Switch. It displays the real-time status of the No.1 to 8 from the left.
[0] is OFF and [1] is ON.

This menu is to check the operation of panel keys. On this menu, it shows [NONE] on the lower LCD when
any key has not been pressed. It shows the key name when some key is pressed. And it shows a message
of [KEY ERROR] when two keys or more are pressed at the same time, and it is considered that no button
is pressed. You can exit this menu with the [left] key. Therefore, the [left] key needs to be the last button to
be pressed in order to check all keys. As long as the [left] key is pressed at the last, the order of pressing
other keys can be random. When it is left without pressing any key for 10 seconds, or pressing the [left] key,
it exits this menu. At this time, the names of the keys that never been pressed are displayed with a buzzer.
This means that if a buzzer does not go off when exiting, all keys are checked properly. The power cannot
be turned off with the sub power key while performing this menu.

This menu is to check LCD, LED and buzzer. When this menu is selected, it sequentially performs the
functions of LCD, LED and buzzer. The functions are the followings, ON/OFF of LCD contrast, LCD back
light, ON/OFF of buzzer, display and move of cursor on LCD, and display of all caracters available on LCD.
Confirm that all functions operate properly, visually and by the sound.

This menu is to confirm the data input from network. The check sum and input data byte are shown on the
lower LCD. On the left, it displays the check sum in hexadecimal of 2 digits. On the right, it displays the

data byte overflows at 4GB(4294967296B) and is reset to 0.

Grit Roller runs 100mm back and forth.
BOTH : The Head Carriage runs max. printing width
in Scan direction, and at the same time, Grit Roller
runs 100mm back and forth.

To stop Aging, press [ENTER] key. The Head Carriage returns back to the capping position, and it returns to the former menu
after the Head is capped. Make sure not to perform Aging for excessive time when the Head is filled with ink, in order to prevent the Head from being
damaged by dried ink. When Aging is performed with ink filled, it runs with performing the Flushing. No Flushing when ink is not filled.

This menu is to check whether Servo Motor can be locked


properly. While in this menu, Servo Motor is free. When the
Carriages are moved by hands, the displayed values change as
the feed-back is performed normally.
Servo Motor can be locked by pressing [ENTER] key.
When it is locked while the motor is in pause, the normal power
control is performed.
As for [F(Feed direction)], the value displayed on the left changes
by Grid Encoder, and the right changes by Motor Encoder.

Press [right] key to enter [CLEAR] menu, and parameter can be
cleard by pressing [ENTER] key.

Reports can be printed. The Head to print the report is selectable considering the case of head
trouble. Select a head with [up] and [down] key and press [ENTER] key to start printing.
SERVICE : Service Report is printed. It prints the System Report of the normal menu with additional
Service Information.
HISTORY : History Report is printed.
CARTRIDGE : Ink Cartridge IC Report is printed.
EVENT LOG : Event Log Report is printed. The number of Event to be printed is selectable from
100/200/ALL(400).
ALL : All Reports are printed together. (System Report, Service Report, History Report,
Ink Cartridge IC Report, Event Log Report).
SERIAL : Service Report and History Report can be sent to RS-232C Serial using special tool.

4-2 HOW TO UPGRADE FIRMWARE (Referential Time : 5min.)


It is necessary to prepare the followings to upgrade the FIRMWARE.
1. Firmware Disk
2. Windows PC (OS Windows2000/XP)
* Network port is required.
3. Peck (Peck3 and above)
4. Network cable
*A cross cable is required when you connect FP-740 to PC directly.

Check the FP-740's IP address.

Turn on the Main Power SW.

SUM-ERROR

[SUM ERROR] is displayed when the Main


Power SW is turned on if the new Main Board
is replaced.
In case of that, press [ENTER] key to execute
the installation.
Or refer to step 8 [F/W installation when
the Main Board is replaced].

Start the Peck (Peck3 and above).


Click [Select Port] button.

Select [Type 2 : AJ-1000 etc.] from [Product].


When connecting the machine by Network, select [via
Network] and input IP address.
When connecting the machine by Parallel, select [via
Parallel] and input IP address.
Then click [OK].

4-4 CAP HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT (Referential Time : 5min.)


CAP HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT is to adjust the height of the Cap.
It must be done when you remove or replace the Cap Unit.
If this adjustment has not been done, there is a possibility that a CAP OPEN SUCTION is not performed
correctly.
CAP OPEN SUCTION is an operation to suck ink without the Heads capped. This can remove the ink
accumulated on the Cap surfaces by the flushing done above the Caps.

Remove the Right I/S COVER.

Lower the Pinch Rollers.


Make sure to unload the media when it is set on the
machine.
Then, turn on the Sub Power SW while pressing [ ],
[ ] and [ ] keys to enter the SERVICE MODE.

Move the Cap upward to the position that the Cap


contacts exactly to the Head, then press [ENTER] key to
update the adjustment value.
When you press [ ] key, the Cap moves to the upward
in 0.25mm unit.
When you press [ ] key, the Cap moves to the position
in the setting value -2.00mm.
When you press[ ] key, the adjustment value is not
updated and the capping is carried out and then exiting
the menu.

Enter the [CHECK GAP.] menu in the [SERVICE MODE]


to check the cap adjustment value.
The cap moves to the same position as the CAP OPEN
SUCTION is performed. Check if there is a gap between
the Cap and Head.

[CHECK GAP.] menu is to check the gap


between the Cap and Head. For adjustment,
use the [ADJUST POS.] menu.

4-5 LINEAR ENCODER SETUP (Referential Time : 3min.)

LINEAR ENCODER SETUP is necessary for the machine to recognize the width by the software coordinates.
It is also necessary for checking whether the Encoder Module can read the scale correctly in the whole
width.

Lower the SHEET LOADING LEVER.


Make sure to unload the media when it is set on the
machine.
Then, turn on the Sub Power SW while pressing [ ],

4-6 LIMIT POSITION & MAX SCAN WIDTH INITIALIZE (Referential Time : 3min.)
This is used to detect the relation of the Limit Sensor and the capping position. After completing the detection,
the distance from the position where the Carriage comes to the most left end to the Limit Sensor will be
detected. When the Limit Position is set incorrectly, capping problem may occur.

Remove the Right I/S COVER.

Make sure not to move the Carriage when the
Capping Unit is up because the Heads could be
broken by touching the Capping Unit.

When the LIMIT POSITION INITIALIZE is completed, the
message appears as shown in the figure.

If adhesion of a tape remains in the Head or the dust sticks on the reverse side of a tape when you
replace reflective tape, a sensor cannot read correctly.

4-8 CALIBRATION (FEEDING DIRECTION) (Referential Time : 20min.)


CALIBRATION is for adjusting the feeding amount of the GRIT ROLLER.
Carry out this adjustment, in case of having problem to print in the correct length in the media feeding direction.
Calibration is done by using the PET-G in the Factory.
Without proper calibration, it causes misalignment in the feed amount of media, and results in the problems
such as White banding, banding of overlap or the dimension error of print result compared to the original data.

Loosen the screws on the Pulley Stand.

Press the belt down perpendicularly onto the Rail Guide


at the position of 108.7mm from the Rail Guide end in the
Idle Pulley side.
Make sure the tension is between 0.54kgf and 0.59kgf at
that time.
Adjust the tension by the adjustment screw as shown in
the figure if the tension is not in the range between 0.54
and 0.59kgf.

4-11 NETWORK BOARD INITIALIZE (Referential Time : 2min.)

NETWORK BOARD INITIALIZE is necessary when the Network Board has stopped responding. When there
is no response even if sending "PING" command or connecting from a browser, there is a possibility that the
setting of the Network Board has become incorrect. In such case, the setting can be returned to the default by
carrying out the INITIALIZE.
After the INITIALIZE is completed, it is necessary to set the IP address again. For details, please refer to
Roland PrintServer Network Setting Guide.

Turn off the Main Power SW.

the Network Board.

Release the button after green and yellow LEDs of the Network Board start flashing, and press the button again
