Description
This chapter introduces the product version applicable to the whole set of ZXWN MSCS
product manuals and brief contents of the product manuals.
1.2 Applicable Product Version

Description
Product manuals correspond to product versions. The version information provided on
the cover of the manual indicates the product version. Sometimes the product subsystem
version information is also provided on it.
Because there are differences between product versions, and between product manuals
with different product versions, it is required to refer to the right manual consistent with the
product version.

In using the documentation, please first read this manual to get a general idea of the
documentation structure as well as the functions, and the modular design project of the
manuals.
Figure 1-1 shows the structure of product manual. Users can select relevant contents of
product manuals for querying and browsing according to the actual requirements.

1.4 Contents of Product Manuals

1.4.1 Product Manual Type
Description
According to the functions of manuals, the product manuals can be divided into three
following categories:

Reference manual
Description manuals describe the background knowledge and concepts of the product to
help readers to understand products accurately.
Task manuals focus on the operating procedures of tasks to guide engineers to perform
effective and correct operations. Some description topics are also contained in task
manuals.
Reference manuals provide detailed information about the equipment to provide engineers
with accurate reference information so that they can understand the product better and
perform more practical operations.
Among these three types of product manuals, task manuals serve as a core, which
directly guide engineers to operate the equipment. Description manuals help engineers
to understand the equipment well, which facilitates them operating the equipment.
Reference manuals provide accurate information, which guarantee correctness of their
operations.
The following is a brief introduction to contents of each kind of product manual.

On the cover page, the information about the product model No., product specifications,
product name, manual name, product version No., contact methods and the technical
support website address is provided.
Copyright Page
On this page, legal declarations and documentation information are provided.
Preface
In the preface, a brief introduction to the manual, as well as document conventions are
provided.
Contents
The contents include the body contents, figure contents and table contents. The contents
enable users to easily find required text, figure or table information.

Body
The body provides most of the product knowledge and information. In the body, chapters
of each kind of manual differ from each other. But they all boast clear consecution and
detailed contents.
Appendix
In the appendixes, some useful information about the product is provided. This part may
vary with different manuals. It is possible to have one or more appendixes in a manual.
For example, the English Abbreviation is often provided in this part, which enables users
to find the meanings of some abbreviations appearing in the manual.
1.6 Numbering Mode

Description
Every manual has a document serial No. and a revision No., which facilitate users finding
the specific manual, and knowing the issue time and update information about the manual.

2.1 Overview
Description
This set of user documents has lots of contents, so it is hard for users to read all the
documents. To solve this problem, Guide to Documentation is written for users to find the
required documents, get useful information, and successfully perform some operations
and solve some problems according to the contents in the documents. Therefore, this set
of user documents can be considered as a library about this product.
This chapter introduces user document indexing methods.
2.2 Indexing Methods

Description
Product manuals and other user documents cover basic product knowledge, installation,
debugging, data configuration, test, maintenance, and network management, and may be
used as a reference for those engineers who want to know about these or who do such
work.
The following sections introduce how to find the required document from so many
documents.
2.3 Indexing by Subject Area

Description
For user documents, a subject area is a set of user documents describing knowledge, or
operation methods and procedures of a certain aspect. Documents with a common or

cover a complete end-to-end system or product with all aspects.

The specific name and classification of intended audience depend on the carriers internal
administration system. In a big office the personnel are generally assigned to more specific

When doing some work, everyone does it in a certain way and in a certain order until
the work is finished. If everyone works in their own ways, it is possible that the work
effectiveness is different, or even that incorrect operations bring losses. Therefore, it
is necessary to work out a work flow that can standardize the operators behaviors to
guarantee consistent work efficiency.
The work responsibility of the person who uses the document is specified in the carrier
management rules. There is a one-to-one correspondence between the work flow and the
work responsibility.
Work Flow Design

The purpose of designing the work flow is to complete the work in the optimized order to
guarantee consistent work result and the highest work efficiency.
The work flow is designed based on clear work responsibility. The procedure to design the
work flow is as follows:
1. Analyze post responsibility.
2. Divide the work procedure into several steps that can bring about a certain result.

5. Determine and release the flow.

3.2.2 Work Flow - User Document Relationship

Description
Every step in a work flow needs to be implemented by the specific personnel. The
executors should have sufficient level of skills and knowledge to implement each step.
However, there are no detailed implementing instructions inferred from the flow itself.
Serving engineers at different posts, user documents provide guidance and reference
information for the executors (usually different kinds of engineers) to implement each step
in the work flow. By reading product manuals, the executors can improve their skills and
enhance their knowledge levels. Therefore, the high work efficiency can be guaranteed.
Work Flow-User Document Relation Design

As for the relationship between the work flow and the user documents, simply speaking,
the user documents provide direct or indirect guidance and reference information for
implementation of each step in the work flow. A full understanding of the relationship
between the work flow and the user document helps readers to select the related
documents to read to enhance their work efficiency.
The relationship between the engineering flow and the user document can be designed
in light of the work steps determined in the work flow and based on the above-mentioned
relationship. The designed procedure is as follows:
1. Analyze the required skills and knowledge level of the person who implements each
step.
2. Find user documents that can improve the skills and knowledge level of executors.
Example
The following introduces the user documents that may be referred during alarm handling,
by taking an example, where maintenance engineers handles common alarms, as shown
in Figure 3-1.

The above flow only covers general operations of maintenance engineers. If the
maintenance engineers are very familiar with the product, it may be unnecessary for them
to refer to any user document.
It can be inferred from this flow that maintenance engineers can refer to one or several
kinds of user documents during the process of handling alarms. This flow clearly
represents the relationship between the user documents and the work flow.
Since there are so many works, and the work flow varies with different posts, readers can
design the relationship between the work flow and the user documents based on those
work flows that they are familiar with. Readers should learn more about the documents,
and store them well for quick reference at key time.

4.2.3 Supplementary Issuance after Version Upgrade

After version upgrade, the original product manuals can not correspond to the new version.
In this case, supplementary issuance is necessary. The supplemented user documents
are as follows:

Generally only CDs are delivered. If users need paper copies, contact the local ZTE office.
At the same time, the updated product manuals will be issued on ZTE Technical Support

4.3 User Document Application and Acquisition

4.3.1 Application through Contract
When a contract is signed, it is necessary to determine the number of sets of product
manuals, and the number of CDs. ZTE will deliver the user documents required in the
contract while the contract is delivered.
4.3.2 Application through Email

If users need product manual CDs, maintenance experiences paper copies, or electronic
user documents delivered aperiodically, they can send emails to a designated mailbox
(doc@zte.com.cn) for application. The emails should include the user document applied
for, users' addresses, and email addresses.
Tip
To get product manual paper copies, contact the local ZTE office.
4.3.3 Application through Fax

If users need product manual CDs, maintenance experiences paper copies, electronic user
documents delivered aperiodically, they can send faxes to a designated number ((86) 755
26772236) for application. The faxes should include the user document applied for, users'
addresses, and email addresses.

4.3.4 Downloading Electronic User Documents

ZTE Technical Support Website provides various electronic user documents. It is
recommended to vist ZTE Technical Support Website regularly and download the latest
product manuals so as to maintain the consistence between the version of user manuals
and the product version.
The downloading procedure is as follows:
1. Input http://ensupport.zte.com.cn in the IE address bar, and click the Go icon
to open the first page of the ZTE Technical Support website.
2. Execute the following operations to log in to ZTE Technical Support website.

select Product Category > Product Sub-category > Product Model by order.
For example, input hardware in the Document Title text box and then
select the language English.
Select Core Network for Product Category,
CS/WCDMA&TD-SCDMA for Product Sub-category and ZXWN MSCS for Product
Model.
6. Click the Search button to display all the manuals that meet the search condition under
the document list.
7. Click the Next button to find the required manuals and then click it to display the
detailed information on the popup window.
8. Under document list, click the Download All button to open the Downloading the
document dialog box.
9. Click the Save button to open the Save as dialog box.
10. Set the saving path for the file and then click the Save button to save the document.
