Can anybody tell the basic difference between Overload & sensitivity. Why we
always considering only Rx part.(eg:Rx overload & sensitivity) instead of Tx
part.

Sanjay Kawale Dear Dharamvir, it is always the easy way out to increase the transmitter
power and say that an equipment can do longer distance. Be it MW or Optical equipment.
But it is always a challenge to design a receiver with great accuracy in detecting what was
sent after a long distance travel over the medium. Thus it is the Receiver sensitivity which
is important where the receiver is able to detect what was transmitted.
Also if the Transmit power when at high, if fed in to the receiver the receiver may get
overloaded and get saturated....both in case of MW and Optical media. Thus it is always
at the receiver side we talk of Sensitivity and Overload.
In fact if you have heard of CD - Coherent Detection........please note it is detection and
hence it is on receiving side.
No matter what one transmits it is the receiver who is important.
Take an example, if one is talking one language, the receiver has to know the
same.........receiver is the most important.

Asad Naveed, PMP To explain further, every receiver has a certain "range" of power that
it can receive, eg -20dBm to +2 dBm. The higher power is called Receiver Overload since
if the power is higher than this, the receiver can be damaged and BER can increase. The
lower power is called Receiver Sensitivity, and if the actual received power is less than this
one, again the signal will be too weak and BER can appear.
