According to the American Psychology Association (APA), Psychology is the

study of the mental processes and behavior. The discipline embraces all
aspects of the human experience. Helping others is an experience that all
humans have in common. Some people would try to deny it but no one can
live without this truth. It is one of those experiences that will last for a
lifetime.
January 11 was the official date to begin our extension service. Our
designated call time was 6:30AM at the guardhouse on the right side of our
school. When everyone was accounted for, we divided ourselves into two
groups in order for our transports to accommodate us all. Before we left, a
prayer to God was offered for the safety of our journey to our designated
area.
Immediately after our arrival, we went to obtain safety equipments before
we began our activities. Everything went according to our program from the
arrival to the orientation of the lead engineer there.
During the orientation, he divided our block into 3 groups. Each group has a
specific task to perform. One group was assigned for the shoveling the dirt
blocking some homes there. The other was tasked to relocate the dirt
shoveled by the first group. The third group was in charge of the relocation of
the dirt delivered by the second group. The system was also the same for the
second day, only the different part was that the members were reshuffled to
new groups. He purposely did it so that everyone would have the chance to
do different tasks and to have different stories to tell. We were also required
to interview beneficiaries of the program as a group in order to relate and
spend time with them.
When I was doing the activities and interviewing the beneficiaries, I thanked
God for giving me a chance to help others. To share the ray of hope that I
had with them was one of my experiences that I would not forget. To see the
smiles of people willing to face the trials of tomorrow brought me enough
strength to do what I could to help them. To see my fellow classmates
helping others and each other strengthened my spirit of unity to work with
them in harmony. To hear the words of gratitude from the people around us
brought joy in our hearts.
I thank God for the opportunity that He gave me to study how a man thinks
and acts especially in times of troubles. It is one of the many indescribable
wonders of nature that man is able to react with pain completely different
from other living things in the world. Because of his faith in God and hope for

a better future are what make man unique from the rest of the world. We
strive to make homes and to build futures.
