Dear Reader,
This CD contains the gist of my 19+ years of studies about global
warming.

----
Viewing the Presentation
Double-click on the icon "Global Warming - So What?" to run the
PowerPoint show.
The main show is packed with information - from how climate change is
happening, to the consequences, to the solutions.
Click for a new slide and after each graph (after source & any annotation in
the original graph: when • appears in the upper right corner).

Versions of the Presentation
This CD has several versions of "Global Warming - So What?" Most are in
the folder "Shows - Other Versions".
Main 64 slides 52 minutes (fly-in transitions) Dissolve-in
transition versions run about 5% faster.
Lite 51 slides 39 minutes " "
Dissolve-in transitions look better on Macs, fly-in transitions (W) in
Windows.
Mini 36 slides 28 minutes " " Omits the temperature
record and how the sun, greenhouse gases, and sulfates affect it.
Micro 27 slides 21 minutes " " This version also emits
solutions.
Plus 70 slides 58 minutes " " The CD also has pdf files of
the Main & Lite versions, plus versions for old PowerPoint.

The Science
Almost all the studies underlying the show, or summaries of them, are
among the 200+ studies in "The Science" folder. Original studies are in pdf
format. Summaries are in MS Word & RTF. Lester Brown's book, Plan B v
2.0, provides many details about falling water tables.

The Author
I grew up in Arkansas. I received my PhD in Resource Economics from
Cornell University in 1989. I worked 1.5 years at the Maine energy office, 13
at the Massachusetts utility commission, 5 as a consultant, and now for
Northeast Utilities. I've dealt with electricity, energy efficiency, & global
warming. I've written scores of articles about climate change for the Global
Environmental Change Report and Business and the Environment.
I have spoken about global warming to many groups, both on behalf of
the Union of Concerned Scientists and independently. I would be happy to
give this show and talk to interested audiences. Please let me know.

Quick Summary
Slide 2 begins "Droughts Worsen." Drought harms green plants, notably
food crops. Droughts will get much worse unless we change course.
Climate change cripples US national security. Water wars - like Darfur,
Somalia - will bring lots more terrorism & refugees (illegal immigrants).
The last slides are about solutions. Green jobs, with American
technology. At the core is a steeply declining carbon cap, a small price to
pay.
Many companies, from GE to Shell to Dow, advocate one. Several bills in
Congress embody one.
Action You Can Take
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---- As John McCain said (www.johnmccain.com, Environment video till May
08), climate change is real. It is devastating. The evidence is
overwhelming that our greenhouse gases are warming the Earth. We must
act.
Farm area Congressmen and Senators must hear how global warming
causes ever worse droughts. We need a steeply declining carbon cap ASAP.
Please write to them. Improve on my sample letters. Congress heeds
constituents. Pass this message on.
Please make and distribute many copies of this CD - especially to
people in OH, NC, IN, LA, SC, IA, NH, ND, SD. 11 Senators there (6 Reps +
Dems in OH, LA, ND, SD) need to change their votes, in order to end a
filibuster against carbon reductions. There's a good chance they will change
their votes if enough constituents ask them to. 16 Senators in FL, VA, MO,
AZ, AR, WV, NE, ME, MT & AK (12 Dems & Reps in FL, ME, AZ) should be
encouraged to continue support for carbon reductions.
Write on the CDs "computer files" (not audio CD or video DVD).
