Description of Classroom:
Government, 17-18 year old High School Seniors, 17 male 17 female.

Background:
Students understand the foundations of American government, the constitution and structure of our
Government.

Content Objective(s):
Students will evaluate the issue of Liberty and Justice for all Americans. They will analyze
Constitutional rights, citizenship, equal justice and law in America.

Language Objective(s):
Students will listen, read, and speak about liberty and justice for all Americans.

Warm Up Activity:
I will present students with headline news in the government about issues happening in Ferguson,
MO. Students will then have about 5 minutes to go over their class lecture and outline.

Lesson Sequence:
I will explain and read the directions of the Soccer Game Review for Unit 5 before the test the next
day. Students will be in teams of two, participate 2 at a time and answer the review questions on the
Prezi. While every student must be paying attention, the entire class must write down the question and
answer on a sheet of paper. To close the game, I will discuss any questions the students had a hard
time with. I will remind them of the important test the following day and suggest them to study.

Accommodations:
Any student who needs extra help will be assisted by the teacher. Any student who finishes early can
help other students, or read the textbook.

Supplementary Materials:
Teacher directions, Prezi presentation and textbook.

Review Assessment:
Students will be graded out of 20 formative points on their participation and written questions and
answers in the review game debate.

Reflection:
Unit 5: Liberty and Justice for All is very informative and can relate to many issues in their daily lives.
I wanted to make sure the students had engagement, high cognitive opportunities, diversity and
assessment incorporated into the review for their test. My cooperating teacher had a soft soccer ball in
the classroom and cones available. I decided to make a soccer-game Prezi for the students to have fun
while building on their understanding of Unit 5. The lesson was certainly engaging for all students.
Throughout the game I learned that it was important to scaffold ideas when students were having a hard
time. If I had the opportunity to build on questions to help them understand a particular subject, I
would. This was important to keep students with higher cognitive abilities involved and interested.
The lesson was a success. To improve the lesson for future classrooms, I would make difficulty level 1
questions and difficulty level 2 questions where the more high the cognitive thinking is, the more points
the team could receive. The lesson had collaboration, engagement, connected learning, and employs all
cognitive abilities. Throughout the semester I have included more and more technology; from PowerPoints, Prezis, Kahoots, Elmo and various other methods. The students get excited to see new
methods of teaching and it gives various ways to teach any subject. During the soccer-game lesson I
included an option to change the slides from my phone so I would walk around the classroom and not
need to be by the computer when I need to change the 35 slides. This was convenient and kept me
involved with the students. I will definitely keep this lesson in my future classrooms.
The principal at Foothill High School Mr. Caruso had evaluated me with the Nevada Educator
Performance Framework High-Leverage Instruction Standards. He was in their the first time I used the
lesson and mentioned how much he enjoyed the lesson. Being engaging and unique, he thought the
lesson was great for the students to review for the test. He gave me the idea to have students write down
each question and answer to help with classroom management. His evaluation with the new CCSD
evaluations was very helpful and enlightening to help me with my first year teaching evaluations.
