What is WIP?
The WINTER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (WIP) forms a vital constituent of curricula at PROTON business school. Its aim is to
broaden the Proton’s perception by providing an exposure to actual and real life organizational and environmental situations. It is
an attempt to bridge the gap between the academic institution and the corporate world. The WIP, which would be a replication of
real work environment, requires the Proton Intern to feel the harshness and rigor of professional environment, both in form and in
substance. In the process, it provides an opportunity for the Proton Intern to satisfy their inquisitiveness about corporate world,
provides exposure to technical skills and helps them to acquire social skills by being in constant interaction with the professionals
of other organizations. Positioned between the first and second years, the program is the most effective aid in enabling the Proton
Interns to relate management theory and practice.
WIP is a distinctive opportunity provided to the Proton Intern to get exposed to corporate culture, Professional experience and
putting the theoretical concepts learnt in the classroom for developing managerial skills along with other skills. The venture of the
Proton Intern during this period is to optimize his/her learning and convert the WIP opportunity into placement opportunity through
dedication, commitment and hard work. This requires discipline, positive attitude, focused approach and inquisitiveness to learn.

Skills Acquisition through WIP
Adaptability: Change according to the times makes the students cope with situational and work related stresses and pressures. WIP
plays an important role in improving the adaptability of the interns. This change may be in the form of physical adaptation i.e.,
acclimatization. Acclimatization allows even dinosaurs to survive in new environment. This can be emotional, structural,
behavioral or cultural adaptation.
Time Management: It includes tools or techniques for planning and scheduling time usually with the aim to increase the
effectiveness and/or efficiency of personal and corporate time use. Through WIP students came to know about time management.
Since, within their specific time frame, they have to prepare time management strategies are a todo list, setting priorities and goal
management.
Impression Management: In sociology and social psychology, impression management is the process through which people try to
control the impressions other people form them. It is a goal directed conscious or unconscious attempt to influence the perceptions
of other people about a person, object or event by regulating and controlling information in social interaction.

Leadership: Winter internship makes students take initiative and also handle may unstructured and at times adverse situations.
This gives ample opportunity to hone leadership skills.
Networking: This is a golden opportunity to get in touch with as many corporate executives and respondents.
Team building and management: During WIP Protons are supposed to work within a team and also they need to build team to
accomplish their objectives. Thus it enables to develop team building and management skills. Team management teaches a number
of techniques that aim at forming and managing teams.
Communication Skills: Communication allows people to exchange thoughts by one of the several methods. There are auditory
means, such as speaking or singing, and physical means, such as sign language, touch, or eye contact. In WIP interns need to
develop their communication skills else they fail to complete it successfully. As we know that communication happens at many
levels, in many different ways, and for all beings, and some machines. This shows the importance of this skill.
Presentation Skills: Presentation is the process of presenting the content of a topic to an audience. During WIP students need to
make many presentations in front of different audiences. So in this way WIP helps in acquiring presentation skills.
Report Writing: At the end of training students need to prepare report. Formal report writing has evolved certain conventions
regarding format, style, referencing and other characteristics. So student Intern gets to learn in deep about these variables of
report writing.
Reading: Reading is now a primary means for most people to receive information. During their WIP, student has to come across
different literature and also this improves his reading skills, as through reading he or she can retrieve and comprehend some form
of the stored information or the ideas (symbols, sight).
Listening: Students need to practice and acquire skills to be good listeners, because a speaker cannot throw you information in the
same manner. In order to collect information students need to Interact with different parties. Information is an intangible substance
that must be sent by the speaker and received by an active listener.
Critical thinking: Critical thinking is an ongoing concern with the problems inherent in human thinking. It leads to the historical
art of analyzing and evaluating thinking with a view to improve it. Critical thinkers can gather such information from reflection,
observation, experience, reasoning, and/or reading, writing, speaking and listening. Critical thinking has its basis in intellectual
criteria that go beyond subjectmatter divisions which include: clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, breadth, logic,
significance and fairness. WIP helps the students in developing their critical thinking ability.
