Dear Friends,
We experiment with many ideas for resource mobilization and project conceptualization
to maximize our effort to change the lives of the disabled and economically impoverished
children and youth in the country. Samarthanam achieved a growth of 27 per cent in
terms of annual turnover in the last financial year. The associate membership of the
World Blind Union is its greatest achievement of this financial year. Samarthanam is in
the process of creating an Indian Blind Union. The organisation also partnered with
Deshpande Foundation for the expansion of its interventions in Hubli-Dharwad areas
of North Karnataka. As a part of this process Samarthanam is expanding its TechVision
project in the rural areas of North Karnataka.
We aim to reach the disabled and underprivileged children and youth in all
major cities of India in another three years, and all district headquarters within
10 years. Samarthanam envisages making an international presence in its
fund raising efforts.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the individuals and corporate
donors, volunteers, collaborators and friends who were instrumental in achieving
all the milestones this year. I appreciate the teamwork of all my colleagues, and
take note of their dedication, hard work and commitment for Samarthanam and
the cause.
Samarthanam reiterate its commitment to change the lives of the disabled
and underprivileged children and youth in India by providing quality service

Preventing classroom hunger: Our study showed that many children reach school with
an empty stomach. Even children who have a meal before they leave for school get
hungry by afternoon and are not able to concentrate. Children from families who cannot
give them a lunch box or child who stay far away from the school feel hungry during
school hours. Samarthanam Vidyaprasad helps to overcome the classroom hunger by
providing nutritious and stumpous mid-day meal.

Sports
We emphasize on evolving a healthy sports culture within the organization and the sports wing of
Samarthanam does it successfully. Excellence in sports was one of the positive aspects for the disabled
youth to access gainful employment. Participation in the sports is encouraged, adequate facilities are
provided, and innovative opportunities are created for the sportspersons to make the best use of their
abilities to realise their dreams.
This year Samarthanam in association with Crickinfo.com conducted four cricket coaching camps for the

Environment
Advocacy is the apex intervention in the development. Though Samarthanam started working as
a service delivery organization for the empowerment of the disabled, over a decade it graduated
itself into advocacy, policy influencing and capacity building resource centre for the disabled.
Advocacy is an organized course of action to achieve the desired change. Samarthanam's advocacy
is all about concerned citizens joining with others to campaign for equality and social inclusion of
people with disabilities by changing policies, practices and attitudes that perpetuate their exclusion
and segregation.

Advocacy
All about Samarthanam advocacy in brief
Promoting full citizenship and enabling the disabled to participate in everyday life of the
community.
Changing policies that maintain exclusion and segregation of the disabled from society
Improving the lives of the disabled and ensuring that they are able to live independently
Challenging the misconceptions around the living of the disabled people. It is not easy
to provide basic things such as above to the poverty-stricken persons
particularly the disabled Samarthanam strives to provide the basic needs coupled
with education and employment trainings but in the process it also realized the
need for providing intangible inputs in the process of empowering the disabled through
collective and responsible voice and action . That is what we call as advocacy, policy
action and capacity building at all levels among the disabled and stakeholders concerned.
