Characteristic Of A Good Parent

Nowadays parenting was the most challenging role for married couple. In this 21
century the children become more advance than their own parent. They can access their own
information with just one click. Without parenting control they can freely acsess many kind of
unsuitable web like phornografy, gambling, chatting with stanger and some of them involve in
bully siber. If we go very strict with them, they will become rebellious and hate their own
parent. They will start to involve with their own friend and become uninterested to share their
problem with parent. Sometime there were parent who were to busy with their work untill
they forget about he child. This situasion was an ordinary nowadays. Sometimes the children
did not even know who is their parent besides their own maid. Person who always with them
all the is time is the maid. For them that was their parent. But that was not the topic that I
would to share with all the parents today.
As we gather today because i would like to give a speech about the characteristic of a
good parent, What does it take to be a good parent. As we know the meaning of parent
word is a person of father and mother. Neither father nor mother play the same role to rise the
children. Based on the situation that i have state before, shows that it is important for parent to
guide the children so they can be a better person in future. At the same time they can avoid
the children misbehaviour. To bend the bamboo start from it shoot. That was the phrse that
been used to describe about shaping the children to be a person should be start from they are
still children. Based on the pharase as a parent it is important to be a good parent and show
the children the best themselve. So the children can make the parent as their role model.
Today I would to share with all of u the charataristic of a good parent. I will state eight
major characteristic based on my observation. The first characteristic a parent should have is
leadership. As a parent should be the best role model to their child. Children will follow just
what their parent do. A parent should be ready to be a leader in whatever situation. Leadership
in parenting requires being firm. Being firm is only when it is necessary, so the children
cannot be spoiled to much. Parent also should be willing to put rules in place, even when the
rules were not readily accepted by the children. As a leader, parent had to get ready to accept
the truth that sometime the children will not like for putting certain limits in place. So it is the
parent to know that it is their job to do whatever is the best for the children.

As a leader parent also had to demonstrate for being a positive role model. Positve role
model required the parent to demonstrate and present a healthy lifestyle which is involving
excersice, nature, art and self expression. A positive role model prepares food that nourishes
the eyes, the mouth and the body. Parent should be wise in their words and actions. Never felt
affraid to admit if making a mistake and accept a feedback on how they can do thing much
better. Parent should avoid from blaming each other if they were facing a problem. If facing a
problem parent should solve it smoothly and did not let it become much tougher. Beside that
parent should promotes the concept of patience by being present in what activities and
enjoying what happen in the moment no matter what. Parent also had to present the concept of
cause and effect to the child. It will help the children to learn through their experiences what
is effective and not effective.
Second characteristic of a good parents is confidence. A parent who is confident with
themselves do not have all the answer, but they are confident with their abilities to do the best
as they can. If they did not know the answer they will look for it. Rather than dwell on their
on mistakes, as confident parents are willing to admit them, learn from them and make better
choices in the futurre. This kind of parent always see problem as opportunities to learn and
grow. For the result, they are in better positin to help their child develop self confidence as
well. Based on my experience a child with higher self confident usually become more shining
between the other student. They are the first person to raise their hand to answer question and
volunter themselves in activities. This behaviour was really good for the children, because
they are not affraid and active involving themselves in the activities. When the parent are
confident at the same time they had build higher self confident in their child. The children will
feel confident with their parent and trust them more.
Third characteristic that for being a good parent is couraging. To be a good parent
need to be a courage ones. Sometimes the need of for courage in parenting can be seen in
many different ways, such as taking unpopular stand to instill values, rules and limits, even if
it goes againt heir child, or other may believe. Sometime, courage may be needed to let he
child to make certain chioces and experience the consequences of the choices they had made.
This can help the children learn to grow based on their own experiences. Courage is not
reckless, nor it is the willingness to try and what need to be done, despite having fears. As a
parent should build the athmosphere of encouragement in between their children. A good
parent should promotes commuincate that they believes in their children. The children really
need parents who are encourages regardless their ages. Never make your child feel doubt with

themselves but help them to build theit confidence. Consequently, the children will grow up
to be hesitant, affraid to step out and risk, unsure with themselves.
Next the fourth characteristic of good parent is gratitude. As good parent we have to
appreciate and accept our children as they are. Gratitude says, I like who you are and who
you are becaming. This characteristic will help parents to become aware of and help them
build on childs strengths. As a grateful parent they will focus on and accept present moment,
does not fret about the past mistakes, or worry about the future. Gratitude in parenting will
helps the parent to become more approachable and a positives influence in their children lifes.
Always remeber to praise the children, even for simple matter. This will encourage the
children to much better in the future. From the research that been made it show that children
that been praise by their parent always, promote higher self confident in themselves. This is
my advice do not always focus on the ngatives. This situation will low our child self esteem,
that will lead to problem behaviour and difficulties with the children relationship. As a parent
to raise the children confident, avoid solely focusing on their negatives behaviour. Instead of
that praise them when they behaving the positives way.
The fifth characteristic of a good parent is quite important, it is having empathy. Some
parent never take a chance to feel waht their children feel. They never try to be in their
children shoes and understand what the children need. This situation always lead to rebellious
children and they will find another people who is understand them more, such as their friend
and other. If this happen, it is not really good situation because sometime their friend can lead
to misbehaviour. For ggod parent they should know how to listen more than talk. Sometimes
our child need is an ear that listening, a safe place to discuss thing out and they want us to feel
what is happening with them. Never jump in and fix the problem for the children, but let them
decides first which the best choices that they had to make. Parent should alert with the child
word, tone of voices and body language, this will have a better chance of hearing what the
child is really saying. Empathy will always lead to open communication between children and
parent. At the same time it can strengthening the parent-child relationship.
Now lets talk about the sixth characteristic of good parent which is understanding. It
might be the hardestcharacteristic to develop in parenting but it is the most needed. It can be
hard for the parent to counter the children misbehaviour. This situation happen because we
did not understand them. The worst thing that could be happen is when the parent take the
children misbehaviour personally. Sometime it will make the parent seeing their child in

negatives ways only. As parent we must understand that as part of the child growth and
development, our child are going to misbehave and do thing that against the rules. We have to
accept this situation, knowing this can help us to anticipate and redirect our child toward more
positives and acceptable behaviours, and avoid a lot of unnecessary anger. At the same time
understanding will lead to forgiveness. So it is important for parent to be a good listener. Do
not judge our children action and word that they do not hear them cry for love, attention or
help. We must listen to the child feeling and reaction to thing. So it is important to understand
the child behaviour, that will help us to become understanding and supportive parent to our
children.
Now we have reached the seventh characteristic of a good parent should have which is
respect. We as an adult want people arround us to respect us in whatever way. This come the
same way to our children. They also have the feeling that parent should respect them
especially when making desicion. A good parent is respectful to their child, even when
diciplining. We must know that our children learn respect from their parent and caregivers. So
it will result respectfully children if they were consistently treated respectfully by a parent. At
the same time it will build healthy self-respect, and a respect for others, including their own
parent. We should keep in mind that it is possible to be respectful and firm at the same time.
As parent also need to respect their children interest and get involved in their life. Parent also
can participate in our child activities that can be enjoyed. Automatically we have creates a
social environment in the children themselves. Welcomed their friend and let them play to
learn, to grow, to communicate and to share. Meanwhile the children know that they can
count on their parent to hold, to comfot, to listen,to understand and to love them.
Last but not least the eighth characteristic of a good parent which is happines. This is
the major thing that every family should have. We have to understand that happiness is not
given to chosen few but it is available to those who choose to make it a part of their everyday
life. Many people thought wait for thing, events, and other people to make them happy, but is
wrong. We have to choose our own to be happy because it comes from within. Happiness can
help us rise above our problems, and not just survive but thrive, in spite of them. Parent who
are practicing happiness have a greater chance of influencing their children perception of
happiness and their attained of it, as well. Our children will feel happy and enjoy being
around with happy parent. We can also be palyful and joyful in our action and guidance, this
situation will increase the gap between the children and parent. As happiness also can lead tod
create a quality time where we can look into the child eyes and connect with their soul. As we

feel happy, we will start to loving our chlid. At the same time we will serve loving and secure
environment to our children. As children they just want to know that they are love in no
matter circumstances. However never make a mistake of thinking that show loves mean
giving into every one of our child demand. We must teach to saying no, so our children will
understand their limit. At the same time we can create an environment that is safe from any
emotional, mental or physical harm.
I have just finished giving the eight characteristic of being a good parent, actually
there are many more characteristic that can be aplly by parent. A good parent will always
prays for their children. Pray for our child for both big and little things of life, such as their
protection. The most important is pray that their heart will always close to the creator. As a
good parent also can create an atmosphere of joy and laughter at home. Our children come
back from school with full of pressure, it is our turn to help them to realese. Remember a
good parents works to create a home that is a place of warmth, acceptance and laughter. A
good parent also realize that one of the best gift that they can give their children is
themselves. We do not have to waste our money to buy our children heart. We are the one that
our child need. Our children need a parents who is fully engaged in their lives.
Always remember that our children is the mirror of ourself, whatever that we do they
will follow. It is impotant for parent to show the best character in front of them. Do not ever
let them get influence with unsuitable character. We have to remember that we are the role
model of our children, they observe our action and try to do the same. Our children is a gift
from god, so as a good parent we should not hesitate and necglate them. The children deserve
a good parent as they can grow up and be the most successful person. An ideal parent strives
toward their ideal, but we also reaalise that it is not reasonable or realistic to expect or
demand to always being ideal. Never feel dissapointed if we miss the mark, we must realise
that every people does mistake. So always reflect back of our action, and aalways ready to
give forgiveness to ourself. The one who was easily forgive their own self is the person who
will easily forgive other. As a parent we have to try to be a good parent. It is not wrong to
start learning on how to be a good parent, always remember that parenting is an ongoing
learning proses. We will be exposed with new kind of attitude and we have to be ready to
handle it.

In conclusion, a good characteristic of parent should already have in ourself. So it is

depend on ourself how to show the good characteristic in front of our children.I believe that
all the parent who are sitting in front of me is the good parent. They willing to come to hear
my speech and share some knowledge, so that they can applied it at home. I would like to
thank all of u for coming to our open Day of Brainy, Bunch. I hope in the future we can share
