1. RHYTHM
- It is the measured motion of flow, characterized by basically regular recurrence of
elements of features as beats, sounds or accents.
2. RHYTHMIC ACTIVITIES
- These activities are the manifestations of the mental and emotional response of the
individual to the rhythm.
3. RHYTHMIC PATTERN
- It is the arrangement of long and short interval of beats and dividing it with
combination of different movements.
4. DANCING
- It is an act of moving rhythmically and expressively to an accompaniment made up of
stretching and relaxing.
5. DANCE
- It is the movement set to music where organization, structure, and pattern merge. It is
also considered as mans primitive and natural way of self-expression.

PHASES OF A DANCE PROGRAM


1. CREATIVE RHYTHMS
- These activities are sometimes called fundamental rhythms or natural dances because
it is an end-product of exploration and improvisation of movements as children learn
to move the parts of their body and to use them as instruments of expression.
2. FOLK/ETHNIC DANCE
- It is a cultural art form handed down from generation to generation and it
communicates the customs, beliefs, rituals and occupations of the people of a region
or country.
- EXAMPLE: Pandanggo
3. SOCIAL AND BALLROOM DANCE
- These types of dance are set in a social gathering with the more formal atmosphere
than the simple and informal parties in which the recreational dances are usual forms.
- EXAMPLE: Samba

4. RECREATIONAL DANCE
- These types of dance have simple patterns and combination of walking steps, twostep, polka step, and the waltz step and usually set in informal gathering and parties.
- EXAMPLE: Swing
5. CREATIVE DANCE
- It is the end product of exploration and improvisation of movements as the dancer or
the choreographer expresses his feelings or emotions, ideals and interpretations with a
definite form. It is known as the highest form of dance for the purpose of
entertainment.
- EXAMPLE: Ballet

TYPES OF MOVEMENTS
1. LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS
- These are movements that move the body in space in any direction with the feet as the
moving space.
- EXAMPLE: Running moving on foot with springing steps at rapid pace such that
for an instant both feet are off-ground during each step.
2. NON-LOCOMOTOR/AXIAL MOVEMENTS
- These are movements in various parts of the body moving in space with a fixed base
such as standing, kneeling, sitting or lying.
- EXAMPLE: Percussive striking and hitting or pushing and pulling; arm strike with
closed fist, arm strike with open fist, hit with one hand, hit with both hands, push with
one arm, push with both arms, pull with one arm, pull with both arms
