Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
A. Create landscape designs for outdoor living areas;
B. Create landscape designs for special populations;
C. Create landscape designs for unique settings, including wetlands;
D. Use advanced landscape design techniques to create master landscape plans;
E. Characterize historical and regional influences on landscape design;
F. Use rendering techniques to color a landscape plan;
G. Interview a client and generate a client inventory;
H. Execute a site survey and perform a site analysis;
I. Generate a base map;
J. Generate preliminary designs and present to clients for feedback;
K. Generate a cost estimate for the installation of a design project;
L. Orally present landscape plans to clients;
M. Start an independent landscape design business.

COURSE FEATURES/POLICIES:
Academic Honesty: All work is to represent own efforts rather than to be copied from another.
Cheating will result in an F grade for the assignment or test. For the academic honesty policy, refer to
the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities found on the college’s website.
Financial Aid: Students receiving financial aid should ALWAYS check with Financial aid prior to
withdrawing, signing an incomplete contract, changing to an audit, or receiving an F or V grade in a
class.”
Use of Tobacco Products: Students shall only use tobacco products during break times as designated
by the professor. Smoking will not occur within 25 feet of doorways and open windows. This includes
the greenhouse.
Use of Electronic Devices in Class: Students must not abuse the use of cell phones in class. Ringtones
must be turned off in class and, if on, cell phones must be in vibrate mode. If there is a need to check
for and/or receive a call (e.g. parent with sick child and similar needs), the student must inform the
professor in advance that the student may need to excuse him/herself to take an important call.
Students must not engage in text messaging in the classroom. Students who create disturbance with
ringing cell phones or text messaging may be asked to leave the class. The course professor also may
evaluate the potential for academic dishonesty with various devices and ban or limit their use on this
basis. For example cell phones with text messaging or photo/video capabilities and PDAs, could be
used for cheating on examinations. Having a cell phone in hand during an examination will bring a

suspicion of (and possibly charges of) violating College policy. Other electronic devices may also be
used for these purposes and similar inappropriate uses may be handled in the same way.
Class Participation/Attendance: Students are expected to attend all sessions, arrive before class starts,
observe break time rules, not leave early, and be prepared for the day’s work. Class participation will
influence your final grade through Work Habits.
Missed Exams and/or Assignments: Ten percent will be deducted per school day on late assignments
or missed exams unless prior arrangements have been made with the professor. The lowest a grade
will be dropped to is 50%.
Lab Safety and Health Issues:
Follow instructors’ guidelines when controlling plant pests.

Incomplete: Because of extenuating circumstances, the professor may consider issuing an Incomplete.
The student is eligible if the student is halfway through the course, is earning at least a C, and is able to
complete the course by working with the professor no later than the subsequent quarter.

on basic grammar, developing ideas for course work, editing, proofing, resumes, job application
letters, lab notebooks, history papers, creative writing and more.

students having difficulty in their math.

• Disability Support Services – Students who have documented disabilities that require
accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act should contact the
Disability Support Services coordinator (Building 27, Second Floor) as well as the professor of
the course in order to ensure that together we create an optimal environment for educational
achievement.

Work Habits Grade
10 points per day are possible. Deduct 3 points for arriving late, leaving early, or taking an unauthorized
break. Points are earned through active participation; showing up and being there is not enough to
earn points. The professor may deduct points for lack of participation.
