PROCEDURE IN THE PREPARATION OF ACTION RESEARCH
1. Identify the Problem
This should be data-based like result of pre-test, NAT or any achievement test,
oral reading test or any assessment tool.
2. Develop the Situation.
Situation a short introduction to discuss the significance of your study based on the
assessment done.
3. Problem
3.1 Why is the problem happening? (the why determines the plan of action)
List several possibilities
a.
b.
c.
Choose the one that represents your best guess and is one YOU can do something
about in a reasonable period of time.
3.2 Write your research question
Statement of the Problem
a. General Problem b. Specific Problem should be measurable
Ex. To what extent does the intervention affect the

independent variables?

4. Conceptual Framework
Independent Variable/s

Dependent Variables

Independent Variable/s intervention applied to solve the problems.

Dependent Variables a variable affected or expected to be affected by the independent
variable.
5. Brief Review of Literature
Identify professional literature that relates to or matches the interest
6. Plan of Action
Methodology (Plan of Action)
h. Design what kind of research
i. Locale school, district + grade or year
j. Date when the study is conducted
k. Respondents teachers, principals, parents, pupils, guidance counsellor etc.
l. Intervention materials to be used.
m. Procedure that the researcher is going to employ to solve the problem.
n. Strategy/ies used to collect the data
o. Instrument to be used to collect the data.
p. Statistical Tools to be used - frequency, mean, regression, ANOVA etc.

Brainstorm possible actions and solutions to address the problems.

7. (ACTION) Findings and Discussion (Interpretation and Analysis of Data Collected)
b. Describe what the researcher found out in the study. Interpret and analyse the
collected data. This includes the raw data (can be numbered or in table format
quotes, etc.)
8. (EVALUATION) Conclusions
What are the general conclusions?
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were arrived at:
1.Thedependent variables have positive effect in the independent variables. (Relate
this back to your research question/problem and to the relevant research.
9. (FOLLOW UP ACTION) Recommendations
This includes the suggestions to utilize the interventions in larger population, other
school, district or division, and other school year.

STANDARD FOR THE CONDUCT OF ACTION RESEARCH

1. Submit the action research proposal with the intervention materials to be used in the
study to the concerned EPS and EPS Research and Evaluation.
2. After studying the proposal, the EPS R&E with the concerned EPS on the learning
area will be visiting the school of the proponent to validate the problem and clarify some
issues of concern.
3. Validated proposal will be recommended for approval to the office of Schools Division
Superintendent.
4. After the approval, a monitoring team will be visiting the concerned school and the
researcher to monitor the conduct of research and to validate the result of evaluation.
5. Completed/Finished action research will be submitted to the EPS R&E and EPS in the
concerned subject area for evaluation.
6. The final copy of action research will be submitted and recommended for approval to
the office of Schools Division Superintendent.
7. A soft and two hard copies of completed/finished action research will be submitted in

g. Alternative Delivery Modes that Promote Access and Holding Power of School.
To strengthen the holding power of the schools, Project EASE (Effective Alternative
Secondary Education) was implemented for students who cannot attend class
regularly due to personal, economic or financial reasons. It was intended to
complement the existing formal system to make secondary education more
accessible to students in disadvantaged situations. An EASE student can enter into
a contract with the school to study at home for a period of time until he/she is ready
to return to the formal system. Learning is facilitated with the use of modules as
instructional materials during the period when they are out of the classroom.
For those who are unable to start or complete secondary education due to lack of
time, distance, physical impairment or financial difficulties and for those living in
areas of conflict, the Open High School Program was designed and implemented.
The system is learner-centered and makes use of a wide range of teaching-learning
strategies through a combination of print and non-print media. This is complemented
with the implementation of BalikPaaralan Program (Home Study Program).
Learning is primarily a self-activity and is achieved only when the curricular program,
instructional materials and delivery system are adjusted to the needs of the learner
who cannot, for one reason or another, regularly go to school. At the elementary
level, Project IMPACT, a combination of self-learning materials and an in-school, offschool
mode, continues to be implemented in some regions as a way of reaching the
hard-to-reach students and circumventing limited school resources.
