The government of Kenya has greatly invested in education in the country. This is evident by the number
of universities we have within the borders. It is safe to say that in East Africa, Kenya has the largest
education system. There are a number of public universities, but private universities in Kenya
outnumbers the public universities. This serves to show that there is a thirst for post secondary
education in Kenya hence the number of universities that are being established, most of them private.
The private universities in Kenya offer the same curriculum as the public ones and follow the rules set by
the Commission for Higher Education (CHE) in Kenya. These universities are established through the Act
of parliament under the universities act 2012, that provides for the establishment, development,
accreditation and governance of university education in Kenya. The universities are either public,
chartered private or operating with the Letter of Interim Authority.
