4.1 Overview of Installing PC
The hardware installation of PC covers the following aspects:

4.2 Installing Operation Desk


Before installing PC, install the operation desk according to the following requirements:
z

The operation desk shall be a flat antistatic desk with a reasonable size to place
PC, keyboard, mouse, mouse pad and printer.

Place the operation desk in an environment with suitable temperature, humidity


and without direct sunshine. Refer 3.4.1 Checking Environment.

4.3 Installing PC and Related Equipment


After installing the operation desk, install PC and related equipment, including the
network equipment. Install PC according to the following requirements:
z

The back of PC must be at least 8 cm far away from any other component to
facilitate better air ventilation.

Install PC far away from electronic equipments with electromagnetic interference.

Refer the user manuals of PC and other network equipment.

4.4 Connecting Cables


Connect power cables, grounding cables and network cables after installing PC and
other equipment.

4.4.1 Connecting Power and Grounding Cables


The connection requirements of power and grounding cables are as follows:

PC shall be connected to the power supply system with stable voltage and power
failure protection and it shall be equipped with an uninterrupted power supply
(UPS).

The grounding cable of PC shall share the same ground with the transmission

6.3.2 Connecting Power and Grounding Cables


The Sun Fire V880 system requires two power supplies. Each power supply accepts an
input of 1500 W and provides the output of 1100/1200 W. The third power supply
provides the N+1 backup. The system must be configured as the AC power cable of 15
A. Each power supply must have its own plug to avoid system power failure.
The hard disk array must have two lines of power supplies to ensure security.

6.3.3 Connecting Sun Fire V880 and 3310 Using a SCSI Bus
Connect one end of a SCSI bus to the port "SCSI Port" on Sun Fire V880 and the other
end to the port "CH1" on 3310.

6.3.4 Connecting Sun Fire V880 and Operation Terminal Using a Serial Port
Cable
Connect one end of a serial port cable to the port "Serial Port" on Sun Fire V880 and the
other end to the port "COM" on the operation terminal for the initial configuration of Sun
Fire V880 system.

7.5.2 Connecting Power and Grounding Cables


All cabinet internal devices use 110/220 V AC power supply. For the connection of
power cables, see Figure 7-2.
In this figure, every T3 uses two independent power supplies. When one of the two
power supplies is faulty, the other will supply power to the system.
There is a grounding pole at the bottom of the cabinet. Connect one end of a grounding
cable to this pole and the other end to the grounding bar in the equipment room.

7.5.3 Connecting Sun Fire 4800 and T3s Using Optical Fibers
The optical port on the IB8 is for the connection with the first T3. The one on the IB6 is
for the connection with the second T3.
Add labels to the devices. Label the T3 on the IB8 as T3-1, and the one connected to
the IB6 as T3-2.

7.5.4 Connecting Sun Fire 4800 and D240 Using a SCSI Bus
Connect one end of a SCSI bus to the port "SCSI Connectors" on the Sun Fire 4800
and the other end to the port "OUT on the D240.

8.1 Overview of Installing Alarm Box
Besides M2000 Server and Client, the M2000 system usually includes an alarm box.

An alarm box is usually connected to M2000 Client (used as alarm console), as shown

10.1 Overview of Installation Preparations
The pre-installation procedure is as follows:

Check hardware installation

10.2 Checking Hardware Installation


Check the hardware installation, including:
z

Check whether the installation of hardware equipment is proper and whether the
cable connections are correct, especially whether the power cable connections
meet the anti-static requirements.

Check whether all accessories are available according to the delivery list.

Check whether the cabinet can be properly powered on and whether the
accessories of the computers are normal, including the keyboard, mouse,
CD-ROM drive, display and tape drive.

10.3 Checking Mandatory Software


Check whether all software installation CD-ROMs are available according to the
delivery list.

10.4 Retrieving Software Installation Licenses


10.4.1 Retrieving Software Licenses for M2000 System
The software licenses for the M2000 system include:

Solaris: Installation license is delivered with the installation CD-ROM.

Sybase: Installation license is delivered with the installation CD-ROM.

WinaXe: Installation license is attached in the installation CD-ROM.

M2000: Installation license is provided by Huawei.

I. Login
Login to the Server as root.

II. Retrieve the Physical Address of the Network Adapter


Retrieve the physical address of the network adapter with the command:
# ifconfig a
The physical address of the network adapter is the contents in "ether" in the returned
information.

III. Send the Physical Address of the Network Adapter


Send the physical address of the network adapter to Huawei. Huawei will return a valid
license file iMAPLicenses after receiving the physical address.

11.2 Confirming the Configuration of the Server


Confirm the following items and note them down for the convenience of the subsequent
operations.
z

Host name

IP address, subnet mask and gateway

Password of the user root (It is recommended to use "root" as the initial
password).

Password of the user dbuser (It is recommended to use "dbuser" as the initial
password).

11.3 Planning Partition Diskss


The standard configuration of Sun Netra 20 includes two hard disks of 36 GB or two
hard disks of 73 GB. Follow Table 11-1 to implement hard disk partitioning.

11.4 Connecting a Terminal to Sun Netra 20 Server


The hardware of Sun Netra 20 does not include video adapter, monitor and keyboard.
It is necessary to operate it through a terminal connected with it through the serial port.

Sun Netra 20 Server is the product of Sun Microsystems, Inc. The details are provided in the
corresponding technical information of Sun Netra 20 Server. The company, trade mark and manuals
mentioned in this manual belong to Sun Microsystems, Inc.

11.4.1 Setting Up Physical Connection


Connect the LOM serial port of Sun Netra 20 Server and the serial port of the terminal
PC or laptop using a serial port cable. One end of this cable is an RJ-45 pin connector,
which is connected to the LOM serial port on Sun Netra 20 Server. The other end is a
DB-9 pin connector, which is connected to COM1 or COM2 on the PC. Table 11-2 lists
the correspondence between the cores in the cable and signals.

11.4.2 Setting up Logical Connection


After connecting Sun Netra 20 Server with a terminal, perform a logical connection for
them.

I. Switching on Sun Netra 20 Server


Press and hold the power button on the front panel to start Sun Netra 20 Server.

II. Switching on the Terminal


Press and hold the power button to start the terminal.

III. Setting up a Logical Connection by Means of HyperTerminal


To set up a logical connection by means of HyperTerminal, proceed as follows:
1)

Select [Start/Programs/Accessories/Communications/HyperTerminal].

2)

Enter the name of the connection.

3)

Select the serial port to be used. For example, to connect the Sun Netra 20 to the
port COM1 of the terminal, select "COM1".

4)

Configure COM1 properties using the following data:

Bits per second: 9600

Data bits: 8

Parity: None

Stop bit: 1

Flow control: None

5)

Click <OK> to finish the settings.

After setting up the connection, the prompt "ok" or "lom>" or "#" will appear in the
window of the new HyperTerminal, indicating that the connection has been set up.
With the connection established, you can operate the Server through the
HyperTerminal.
Note:
There are three default system prompts used by the Netra 20 system:
"lom>": Netra 20 has started, or LOMlite2 shell is in use.
"ok": Netra 20 has started but the user has not logged in yet.
"#": Netra 20 has started and the user has logged in as root.

To change "lom>" to "#", type console under the "lom>" prompt.


To change "#" to "lom>", type #. after the "#" prompt.
To change "#" to "ok", type init 0 or shutdown under the "#" prompt.

11.5 Installing Solaris


11.5.1 Overview of Installing Solaris
To install Solaris, proceed as follows:
1)

Boot from CD-ROM

2)

Configure parameters

3)

Start the installation

4)

Use the second disk to install

5)

Skip the language disk

6)

Restart Solaris

Note:
In this section, the mark "[!]" is used to highlight the important steps.

11.5.2 Booting from CD-ROM


I. Entering the "ok" Status
Switch on the Server. Press <Ctrl+Break> to enter the "ok" status.

II. Using a System Disk to Start the Server


To start the system with a system disk, proceed as follows:
1)

Insert the first Solaris 8 installation disk.

Insert Solaris 8 02/02 Software 1 of 2.


2)

Start the Server with the command:

ok boot cdrom

11.5.3 Configuring Parameters

II. Identifying the System


To identify the system, proceed as follows:

In the dialog box [Identify This System], press <F2> to start the identification.
In the dialog box [Network Connectivity], select Yes and then press <F2> to
connect the network.

In the dialog box [DHCP], select No and then press <F2> to deselect DHCP. [!]

Note:
To ensure system security, it is necessary to set static IP.

4)

Select the primary network interface

In the dialog box [Primary Network Interface], select eri0 and then press <F2> to
select a primary network interface.

In the dialog box [Host Name], enter the host name such as "m2ktest" and then
press <F2>.

6)

In the dialog box [IP Address], enter the IP of the Server, for example, "10.10.1.1"
and then press <F2>.

In the dialog box [Subnets], select Yes and then press <F2>.

In the dialog box [Netmask], enter the subnet mask, for example, "255.255.254.0"
and then press <F2>.

In the dialog box [IPv6], select No and then press <F2> to choose not to use
IPv6.

10) In the dialog box [Confirm Information], view the configuration information
recorded by the system. If you are sure all information is correct, press <F2>.

III. Configuring Security Strategy


To configure a security strategy, proceed as follows:
1)

In the dialog box [Configure Security Policy], select No and then press <F2> to
choose not to configure Kerberos security.

2)

In the dialog box [Confirm Information], view the configuration information


recorded by the system. If you are sure all information is correct, press <F2>.

IV. Confirming Name Service


To confirm name service, proceed as follows:
1)

In the dialog box [Name Service], select None and then press <F2> to decide not
to configure name service.

2)

In the dialog box [Confirm Information], view the configuration information


recorded by the system. If you are sure all information is correct, press <F2>.

V. Setting Time Zone and Time


To set the time zone and time, proceed as follows:
1)

Set time zone according to the geographic zone

In the dialog box [Time Zone], select a geographic region from the list and press <F2>
to continue.

Caution:
Do not select other offset from GMT and other specify time zone file. Otherwise, a system time error
might occur.

2)

In the dialog box [Time Zone], select the location of the Server and then press
<F2>.

3)

In the dialog box [Date and Time], set a precise time for the system and then press
<F2>.

4)

In the dialog box [Confirm Information], view the configuration information


recorded by the system. If you are sure all information is correct, press <F2>.

VI. Selecting Installation Mode and Software Type


To select an installation mode and software type, proceed as follows:
1)

Select an installation mode

If the operating system is installed, the dialog box [Solaris Interactive Installation] will be
displayed. Press <F4> to start an initial installation.
2)

Select an installation way

The system provides two ways to install Solaris: Standard and Flash. Press <F2> to
install the system from a standard Solaris Distribution.
3)

Select a geographic region

In the dialog box [Select Geographic Regions], select the local region of the Server to
specify the geographic region corresponding to the selected language and then press
<F2>.
4)

Select the installation type of Solaris software group

In the dialog box [Select Software], select "Entire Distribution plus OEM support 64-bit",
and then press <F2>.

VII. Partitioning Disk


To partition a disk, proceed as follows:
1)

Select the disk available for installation

In the dialog box [Select Disks], select one or two disks to partition.
z

For the 36 GB disk, select two.

For the 73 GB disk, select one, and the other is for disk mirror.

Press <F2> to continue.


2)

In the dialog box [Preserve Data], press <F2> to choose not to keep data in the
disk.

3)

In the dialog box [Automatically Layout File Systems], press <F4> to manually lay
out system files.

4)

[!]

In the dialog box [File System and Disk Layout], press <F4> to customize the disk
partitions.

5)

In the dialog box [Customize Disk], customize the partitioning according to 11.3
Planning Partition Diskss.

6)

[!]

In the dialog box [File System and Disk Layout], check the disk partitioning, and
then press <F2>.

Note:
Solaris might automatically round and adjust the disk partitioning.
For example, if you value root area partition as 8192 MB, Solaris will subsequently adjust the value to
8193 MB.

VIII. Not Mounting Remote File System


In order not to mount any remote file system, proceed as follows:
1)

In the dialog box [Mount Remote File Systems], press <F2> to continue, which
means no remote file system will be mounted.

2)

In the dialog box [Profile], view the configuration information recorded by the
system. If you are sure all information is correct, press <F2>.

11.5.4 Starting Installation


In the dialog box [Reboot After Installation], select Auto Reboot and then press <F2>.
When the installation starts, the dialog box [Installing Solaris Software-Progress] will
appear to display the installation progress.
This procedure lasts about 25 minutes.

11.5.5 Setting Password of root

Caution:
Do not forget the password. It is recommended to use "root" as the initial password.

When the installation is over, the system will automatically restart and then prompt to
enter the password of root.

11.5.6 Using the Second Disk to Install


To use the second disk to install Solaris, proceed as follows:
1)

In the dialog box [Media], select CD/DVD and then press <Enter>. The system
will eject the CD-ROM drive.

2)

Replace the first Solaris 8 installation disk with the second one, and then press
<Enter> to start the installation.

The installation lasts about 20 minutes.


3)

Upon the completion of the installation, the dialog box [Installation] is displayed.
Enter 2 to continue.

11.5.7 Skipping the Language Disk


In the dialog box [Media], enter 3 then 1 to select Skip.

Note:
If Solaris English version is being installed, there is no reminder of using language disk.

11.5.8 Restarting Solaris


1)

Reboot

The system will automatically eject the disk. Take out the disk, and then press <Enter>.
2)

Login

After the system reboots, the login window will be displayed. Login as root to enter the
CDE (Common Desktop Environment).
It is necessary to install WinaXe on the terminal to enter CDE. For the installation of
WinaXe, see Chapter 14 Installing and Configuring WinaXe on Terminal.
After the operation above, the installation of Solaris has been finished. You should go
on to install Solaris patches.

11.6 Installing Solaris Patches


11.6.1 Overview of Installing Solaris Patches
To install Solaris patches, proceed as follows:

Prepare installation package

Configure setup parameters

Install patches

Check the installation

11.6.2 Preparing Installation Package


To prepare the installation package, proceed as follows:

Login as root and then insert the disk of Sun Solaris OS Patches 4.0.
2)

Create a temporary directory with the command:

# mkdir /tmp/sun_patch

Copy the patch package with the command:

# cppr /cdrom/cdrom0/ patch27.tar.gz /tmp/sun_patch


4)

Decompress the patch package with the commands:

# cd /tmp/sun_patch
# /usr/bin/gunzip patch27.tar.gz
# tar xvf patch27.tar

11.6.3 Configuring Setup Parameters


I. Running setup-standard
To run setup-standard, proceed as follows:
1)

Switch to single user mode with the command:

# init S

Do not skip this step. Otherwise, the installed patches will run abnormally.

2)

Enter the password of root

3)

Run setup-standard.sh with the commands:

# cd /tmp/sun_patch/sun/install
# ./setup-standard.sh

II. Setting /.profile


To set /.profile, proceed as follows:
1)

Enter "y" when the system prompts Is the power saving daemon to be disabled?
[y/n]: to disable the power saving daemon.

2)

Enter "n" when the system prompts Sun keyboard Power button to be disabled?
[y/n]: to enable the Sun keyboard power button.

III. Installing SFS packages and ACT Package(CTEact)


To install the SFS packages and ACT package (CTEact), proceed as follows:
1)

Enter "y" when the system prompts Do you wish to add the SFS packages? [y/n]:
to install the SFS packages.

2)

Enter "E" when the system prompts Do you wish to ENABLE the alternate break
sequence? [E/n]: to enable the alternate break sequence.

3)

Enter "y" when the system prompts Do you want to install the ACT package?
[y/n]: to install the ACT package.

4)

Press <Enter> when the system prompts enter base directory for install (Default
/opt/CTEact) [?,q] to set the base directory as default value.

5)

Enter "n" when the system prompts Do you wish to enable the email of panic
facility [y] [y,n,?] to disable the Email of panic facility.

6)

Enter y when the system prompts Do you want this directory created now
[y,n,?,q] to create the base directory /opt/CTEact.

7)

Enter y when the system prompts Do you want to continue with the installation of
<CTEact> [y,n,?] to finish the installation of CTEact.

IV. Setting the Installation Directory of SUNWexplo


To set the installation directory of SUNWexplo, proceed as follows:
1)

Press <Enter> when the system prompts Press RETURN to continue... to


continue with the supply of SUNWexplo configuration information.

2)

Enter y when the system prompts Agree to these terms? [y,n] to agree the
SUNWexplo license agreement.

3)

Press <Enter> when the system prompts Where should this package be installed?
[/opt/SUNWexplo]: to set the installation directory of SUNWexplo as the default
value (/opt/SUNWexplo).

V. Supplying the User Information

To configure the information for automatic Email submission, proceed as follows:

explorer-database-apac@sun.com at the completion of explorer when -mail or -e
is specified? to set the Email address to receive explorer output.

2)

Enter - when the system prompts To enter multiple addresses, separate them
with a comma (,).[ ]: not to set the alternate Email address.

3)

Enter the Email address when the system prompts Return address for explorer
email output []: to set the address to send the explorer output.

4)

Enter - when the system prompts To receive email notification that your explorer
output has been loaded into the repository, enter the email address to send the
notification to. If notification is not wanted, enter a single - [ ]: not to receive Email
notification.

VII. Confirming the Configuration Information and Finishing the Installation


To confirm the configuration information and finish the installation, proceed as follows:
1)

The system will display the user information and automatic Email submission
setting. View these values and enter y when the system prompts Are these
values okay? [y,n] to confirm these settings.

Enter n when the system prompts Do you wish to run explorer once a week?

By far, the configuration of setup parameters ends.

11.6.4 Installing Patches


To install the patches, proceed as follows:
1)

# cd /tmp/sun_patch/eis-cd/sun/patch/8

2)

# /tmp/sun_patch/eis-cd/sun/install/bin/unpack-patches

3)

Enter y when the system prompts Are you ready to unpack patches into /tmp/8?
[y/n]: to unpack patches into /tmp/8.

4)

# cd /tmp/8/

5)

# ./install_all_patches

Note:
This installation lasts about 150 minutes.
During the installation, the system might give some messages indicating installation failures. If the error
code is 8 or 16, you can ignore these messages. Otherwise, you should reinstall the patches.

6)

# /usr/sbin/shutdown i6 g0 y

11.6.5 Checking the Installation


To check the installation, proceed as follows:
1)

Login as root.

2)

Check the patch version with the command:

# uname X
In the returned message, the following fields must be:
Release = 5.8
KernelID = Generic_108528-27

If the value of "Release" is not 5.8, it is necessary to reinstall Solaris. If the value of
"KernelID is not Generic_108528-27, it is necessary to reinstall the Solaris patches.

The following files contain the log information of the patches installation:
/var/sadm/install_data/Solaris_8_Recommended_log and /var/sadm/install_data/Solaris_8_Extra_log.

11.7 Setting Solaris System Parameters


11.7.1 Setting Default Router and Gateway
I. Setting Default Router
Create the file /etc/defaultrouter, and then add the IP of the default router obtained in
11.2 Confirming the Configuration of the Server, for example, "10.121.1.1".

II. Setting Default Gateway


Open the file /etc/netmasks and then add the IP of the subnet gateway obtained in 11.2
Confirming the Configuration of the Server.

11.7.2 Setting the Parameters for Access


I. Setting Terminal Type
Execute the following commands:
# TERM=vt100
# export TERM

II. Changing the Port for XWindow


Open the file /usr/dt/config/Xservers, and change the last line to ":50

III. Inhibiting Shutting down the System Through Serial Port

Open the file /etc/ftpusers, and then add "#" before "root".

11.7.3 Restarting the System


Execute the following command:

11.8 Installing Disk Mirror


11.8.1 Overview of Installing Disk Mirror
For the Server configured with the two 73 GB hard disks, it is necessary to install disk
mirror.
To install disk mirror, proceed as follows:
1)

Plan mirroring

2)

Install Sun DiskSuite

3)

Create configuration files

4)

Back up system files

5)

Create mirrors for the local disk

11.8.2 Planning Mirroring


Decide the correspondence between physical devices, mirrors and sub-mirrors listed in
Table 11-3.

Caution:
The names of the physical devices depend on their types and hard disk controllers. For example, the first
disk is c1t0d0 and the second disk is c1t1d0.

11.8.3 Installing Sun DiskSuite


To install Sun DiskSuite, proceed as follows:
1)

Login as root

2)

Insert the second installation disk of Solaris: Solaris 8 2/02 Software 2 of 2.

3)

Install all software packages with the commands:

# cd/cdrom/sol_8_202_sparc_2/Solaris_8/EA/products/DiskSuite_4.2.1/

sparc/Packages
# pkgadd d .

Caution:
In the above command, there is a "." at the end of the command.

Select "all" to install all software packages. For other prompts, press <y> to respond.
After the installation, press <q> to quit.

Restart the system with the command:

11.8.4 Creating Configuration Files


I. Overview of Creating Configuration Files
Create three configuration files to realize disk mirroring.

vfstab.mirror

mirr1.sh

mirr2.sh

Table 11-4 lists the functions of the three configuration files.

vfstab.mirror

The configuration file stores disk information.

mirr1.sh

The configuration file copies the information of the partitioned disk 1


to disk 2.
The configuration file creates status database "metadb". The
database serves to store the important information of metadevice.
The configuration file uses metainit to create metadevice.
The configuration file uses metainit to create sub-mirrors for the first
disk.
The configuration file saves the disk information. Use contents in the
file "vfstab.mirror" to replace those in the file "/etc/vfstab".

mirr2.sh

The configuration file attaches the sub-mirrors of the second disk to


the previous sub-mirrors.

II. Creating vfstab.mirror


1)

To create vfstab.mirror, execute the following commands:

# cd /opt
# vi vfstab.mirror
2)

Enter the file contents, save the file and quit the editor vi.

According to Table 11-4, the file contents are as follows:

11.8.5 Backing up System Files


Back up the system files /etc/vfstab and /etc/system with the commands:

11.8.6 Creating Mirrors for Local Disk


To create mirrors for the local disk, proceed as follows:
1)

Run mirr1.sh with the command

# . /opt/mirr1.sh

Restart the system with the command

# sync; sync; sync; reboot -- -r


3)

Run mirr2.sh with the command

# . /opt/mirr2.sh

Use the following command to check the synchronization progress:


# metastat | grep %
If the synchronization is not finished yet, the system will return the following message:
Resync in progress: %

The synchronization lasts about 3 hours.

Verify the result with the command:

# metastat
If the states of all sub-mirrors in the returned message are "Okay", it indicates the disk
mirrors are successfully created. Otherwise, it indicates the creation fails and you need
to create again.

12.3 Planning Partition Disks


The standard configuration of Sun Fire V880 includes two 73 GB hard disks and one
Sun StorEdge 3310 hard disk array. The hard disk array consists of eight 36 GB hard
disks. Follow Table 12-1 to implement hard disk partitioning.

14.1 Overview of Installing and Configuring WinaXe on
Terminal
Before installing Sybase, it is necessary to install WinaXe on the terminal connected to
M2000 Server.
WinaXe sets up TCP/IP connection between the terminal and the Server, so that the
terminal can synchronously display the installation on the Server.
To install and configure WinaXe, proceed as follows:
1)

Configure IP of the terminal

2)

Prepare installation package

3)

Enter the License

4)

Install WinaXe

5)

Configure WinaXe

6)

Run WinaXe

14.2 Configuring IP of Terminal


Since WinaXe operates in TCP/IP environment, it is necessary to configure a proper IP
for the terminal so that the terminal can access to the Server.

14.3 Preparing Installation Package


To prepare the installation package, proceed as follows:
1)

Insert the disk of WinaXe 6.1 into the terminal.

2)

Run the self-extraction file E:\winaxe6.1\ winaxe6.1.exe in the disk, where "E:"
refers to the CD-ROM driver.

3)

In the dialog box [WinZip Self-Extractor], click <OK> to confirm the self-extraction.

4)

Do not select When Done Unzipping Run: SETUP.EXE in the dialog box
[winaxe6.1.exe] shown in Figure 14-1 to install the license. Click <Unzip>.

5)

When all files are decompressed, the dialog box illustrated in Figure 14-2 is
displayed. Click <OK>.

14.4 Entering the License


To enter details of the license of WinaXe, proceed as follows:
1)

Retrieve the license file package

Run the file with the file type as "eml", and then copy the accessory "license.exe" to the
decompression directory of WinaXe 6.1, such as "C:\xinstall".
2)

Run the license file "license.exe".

3)

In the dialog box [WinZip Self-Extractor license.exe], specify the installation


directory of WinaXe 6.1, such as "C:\xinstall". Do not select When Done
Unzipping Run: SETUP.EXE, and then click <Unzip>.

4)

When all files are extracted, the dialog box illustrated in Figure 14-3 will be
displayed. Click <OK>.

14.5 Installing WinaXe


To install WinaXe software, proceed as follows:
1)

Run the file "C:\xinstall\setup.exe".

2)

The dialog box [WinaXe Setup] will be displayed, as shown in Figure 14-4. Click
<Next>.

In the dialog box [WinaXe Registration], enter the user name, and then click
<Next>.

4)

In the dialog box [Choose Destination Location], enter the installation directory,
and then click <Next>.

In the dialog box [Setup Type], select Typical and then click <Next>.

In the dialog box [Folder Selection], enter the name of a folder and then click
<Next>.

To configure WinaXe with configuration tool, proceed as follows:
1)

Select [Start/Programs/WinaXe 6.1/XSettings] to display the dialog box


[XSettings].

2)

In this dialog box, select Single in [Window Mode List], and select Use XDMCP
in [XDMCP], as shown in Figure 14-5. Click <Settings> to display the dialog box
[XDMCP Settings].

In the dialog box [XDMCP Settings], select Broadcast in [XDMCP mode], as


shown in Figure 14-6, and then click <OK>.

In the dialog box [Select XDMCP Host], select the Server to connect, and then
click <Select>.

In the CDE of the Server, enter the user name and password to login to the Server.

The user dbuser is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the Sybase database.

To create dbuser, proceed as follows:

Run system administration tools

Login as root, and then execute the following command:

Create a user

In the dialog box [Admintool: Users], select [Edit/Add].


3)

Set properties of the new user

In the dialog box [Admintool: Add User], set the properties of the user dbuser according
to Figure 15-1, and then click <OK> to close this dialog box.

Caution:
Set a password for dbuser. It is recommended to use "dbuser" as the initial password.

In the dialog box illustrated in Figure 15-5, confirm the installation parameters, and then

15.3.5 Starting Initial Installation


The dialog box [Installing] will be displayed to indicate the installation progress.

I. Deciding Whether to Install the License


Upon the completion of the initial installation, the dialog box illustrated in Figure 15-6
will be displayed. Click <Yes>.

II. Entering License Information


In the dialog box illustrated in Figure 15-7, enter the license information, and then click
<Continue Install>. The license information is provided with the Sybase installation
disk.

IV. Configuring Server Attributes

VI. Creating Database Server


After building the database Server, the dialog box illustrated in Figure 15-14 will be
displayed. Check whether all required Servers are built in this dialog box.

If so, click <OK> to continue.

Otherwise, keep clicking <Go Back> until you return to the dialog box [ASE setup
& configuration]. Configure again.

15.3.7 Finishing the Installation


If the dialog box illustrated in Figure 15-10 is displayed, click <Exit>. If the dialog box
illustrated in Figure 15-9 is displayed, click <Exit> too.
In the dialog box illustrated in Figure 15-15, click <OK> to finish the installation.

15.4 Configuring Sybase Parameters


15.4.1 Setting Environment Parameters of dbuser
To set environment parameters of dbuser, proceed as follows:
1)

Create and edit the file ".profile" under /opt/sybase with the command:

Caution:
There is a "." before "profile". There is a space between "." and "./.profile".
In ".profile", there is . before "/opt/sybase/SYBASE.sh", /opt/sybase/OCS-12_0/OCS-12_0.sh and
/opt/sybase/ASE-12_0/ASE-12_0.sh.

15.4.2 Setting Password of sa


After the installation of Sybase, the default password of the super user "sa" is null. To
ensure the security of the database, execute the following operations immediately after
the installation to modify the password of sa.
In the following example, the password is set as "emsems".
bash-2.03$ isql SSYB -Usa P
1>sp_password null, emsems
2>go
Setting password succeeded!
(return status=0)

15.4.3 Modifying Sybase Database Parameters


To modify Sybase database parameters, proceed as follows:

Set the following parameters in the interface of "isql"

Installing and Configuring WinaXe on Terminal.

16.2.1 Overview of Checking Solaris
Normally the operating system and database are installed in the computer before
delivery.
To check Solaris, login to the Server as root and proceed as follows:

Check the version and patch number of the operating system

2)

Check system partition

3)

Check and modify Server settings

To reinstall Solaris, see Chapter 11 Installing Support Software for Sun Netra 20,
Chapter 12 Installing Support Software for Sun Fire V880 or Chapter 13 Installing
Support Software for Sun Fire 4800.

16.2.2 Checking Version and Patch Number of Operating System


Execute the command:
# uname X
The following two fields in the returned information should be:
Release = 5.8
KernelID = Generic_108528-27

If the value of "Release" is not 5.8, it is necessary to reinstall Solaris. If the value of
"KernelID" is not Generic_108528-27, it is necessary to reinstall the Solaris patches.

16.2.3 Checking System Partition


I. Executing "format" Command
Execute the command:
# /usr/sbin/format

II. Checking Partitions of the First Hard Disk


For the hard disk partitioning of different Servers, see Table 11-1, Table 12-1 or Table
13-1. If the partitions of the hard disk are not consistent with the corresponding table,
reinstall the operating system.

Pay attention to the information in "Size" in the returned information. The information in "Size" is the size of
each partition.
The contents in the "Tag" column are selected from the fixed options in the system. When a partition name

If the current host name does not meet the requirement, modify it as follows:

Modify the file /etc/hosts

Replace the original host name with the correct one.

Modify the file /etc/hostname.hme0

Replace the original host name with the correct one.

Note:
If the file /etc/hostname.hme0 does not exist, please find the file /etc/hostname.eri0 to replace the original
host name with the correct one.

Modify the file /etc/nodename

Replace the original host name with the correct one.

Restart the Server with the command:

III. Checking the IP Configuration


Execute the following command to output the IP configuration of the Server:

If the IP of the current Server does not meet the requirement, modify it as follows:

The IP in this file is in the hexadecimal format. In the row containing "/dev/tcp", the eight
characters behind "\x********" are the IP address.
For example, to modify "10.129.27.118" as "10.130.5.1", edit the file "interface" with the
command:
# vi interfaces
master tli tcp /dev/tcp \x000210040a811b760000000000000000
query tli tcp /dev/tcp \x000210040a811b760000000000000000

In the message above, "0a811b76" is "10.129.27.118". To modify the IP as "10.130.5.1",


modify "0a811b76" as "0a820501".
3)

Modify the file /etc/netmasks

Replace the original gateway with the new gateway, and the original subnet mask with
the new subnet mask.
4)

Modify the file /etc/defaultrouter

Replace the original route with the new one.

Note:
If the file /etc/defaultrouter does not exist, create it and add IP to it as the route information, for example,
"10.121.1.1".

5)

Restart the computer with the command:

# init 6

V. Checking Time Zone


Execute the following command to output the current time zone of the operating
system:
# echo $TZ

VI. Modifying Time Zone


If the time zone does not meet the requirement, modify it as follows:
1)

Modify the file /etc/TIMEZONE. Change the value of "TZ" as that of the local time
zone, for example, "TZ=PRC".

You can get the time zone information under the directory /usr/share/lib/zoneinfo.

Restart the computer with the command:

The concept of time zone in Solaris8 is different from that in Windows. If the time zone in Windows is
"GMT+8", then the one in Solaris is "GMT-8". If the user does not follow this rule, the clock synchronization
system is abnormal.

VII. Checking Current Time


Execute the following command to output the current time of the operating system:
# date

VIII. Modifying Current Time


If the output time is different from the local time, modify it.
For example, to modify the time as "2003-11-17, 16:30:43", execute the command:

16.3 Checking Sybase Database


16.3.1 Checking Installation of Sybase
Execute the following command to become dbuser:
# su - dbuser
If the response is slow and the message "su: Unknown id: dbuser" is given, it means
that dbuser does not exist. In this case, it is necessary to install Sybase.

Note:
The user dbuser has been created before the installation of Sybase. This user serves to install and
maintain the Sybase database. For the properties of dbuser, refer 15.2 Preparation.

II. Running the Installer


Run the installer with the commands:

If the M2000 Server application software has been installed in the Server, then the
dialog box illustrated in Figure 16-12 will be displayed. You can select an installation
mode in this dialog box.

Select Reinstall to delete all M2000 databases in the system and reinstall the
database.

Select Update to update the M2000 database in the system.

V. Initializing Database
The dialog box [Initialize Database] prompts that the database is being initialized. The
procedure lasts for about 9 hours when RAID is applied.
The dialog box [Initialize System] prompts that the system is being initialized. This
procedure lasts for about 50 minutes when RAID is applied.
After system initialization, the system gives the message illustrated in Figure 16-13.
Click <Next> to continue.
Note:
To ensure the system security and stability, you cannot go back to the previous steps to modify the settings
after system initialization.

VI. Entering the License File


In the dialog box illustrated in Figure 16-14, enter the path of the license file and then

Before executing M2000 commands, it is necessary to run svc_profile.sh. It is the
application environment script of M2000. It defines the operation environment of
M2000 and the command search path. This script is stored in the installation directory
of M2000.

I. Setting User Environment of root


Proceed as follows:

Edit the file ".profile" in the root directory with the commands:

To install M2000 Client application software, proceed as follows:

17.2 Checking the Operating System


Windows 2000 Professional is the operating system of the Client. Perform the following
steps to check the status of Windows 2000 Professional.
1)

Login to Windows as administrator.

2)

Check operating system version and patch number.

Select [Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information], and then click


System Abstract in the navigation tree, and check the system information on the right.
In the information:
z

[OS Name] must be Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

[Version] must be Service Pack 2 or later.

If the information is different from the requirements above, reinstall the operating
system or install corresponding patches.
This manual does not provide details on how to install the Windows operating system.

17.3 Checking Communication Between Client and Server


17.3.1 Setting Client IP
Select [Network and Dial-up Connections/Local Area Connection/Property/Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP)] and set the IP address of the Client.

17.3.2 Checking Network Connections Between Client and Server


Select [Start/Run] to display the dialog box [Run]. In the dialog box, enter ping <Server
IP Address>.

If "reply" appears in the returned information, it means that the communication is


normal.
If the communication between them is abnormal, check the IP settings of the Client and
Server as well as the settings of the networking equipment such as the router.

17.4 Installing M2000 Client Application


17.4.1 Overview of Installing M2000 Client Application
To install M2000 Client application, proceed as follows:
1)

Run the installer

2)

Delete temporary files

3)

Appoint one IP for Client to communicate with Server

17.4.2 Running the Installer


Note:
If M2000 Client application software has been installed in the computer, you should uninstall it before
installing again. See Chapter 19 Uninstalling M2000 Client Application.

I. Inserting the Installation Disk


Insert the installation disk of the M2000 Client application.

II. Running the Installer


Select [Start/Run] from the taskbar. The Run dialog box is displayed.
Enter the following path:

III. Setting Parameters for Installation


To set the parameters for installation, proceed as follows:

In the dialog box illustrated in Figure 17-1, click <Next> to continue or click
<Cancel> to exit the installation.

The installation path cannot contain "!", start or end with a space, and no word space is allowable on either
side of "\" in the installation path; otherwise the installation will fail.

17.4.3 Deleting Temporary Files


After the installation, delete the files in the temporary directory. For example, files in the
directory C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Local Settings\Temp.

17.4.4 Appointing One IP for Client to Communicate with Server


If your Client is configured with only one IP, skip this step.
If your Client is configured with two or more IPs, appoint one IP to communicate with
M2000 Server. To appoint one IP, perform the following:

Make sure M2000 Client application is not running.

2)

Open

Find the line where the property name is listenAddress.

20.2 Failure in Installing Disk Mirror


20.2.1 Symptom
After mirroring, some child mirrors are found not in Okay status after executing the
command metastat.

20.2.2 Analysis
The configuration file vfstab.mirror, mirr1.sh, or mirr2.sh is incorrect.

Caution:
The names of physical devices vary with types and hard disk controllers. In the example below, the name
of the first disk is c1t0d0 and the name of the second disk is c1t1d0.

20.2.3 Handling
To remove the fault, proceed as follows:
1)

Restore the original system file using the commands:

20.3 Failure in Building Sybase Database Server


20.3.1 Symptom
In case building Adaptive Server fails during Sybase installation, the system will give an
error message as follows:
Building Adaptive Server 'xxxx':
Building master device... Master device complete.
Writing entry into directory services... Directory services entry complete.
Writing RUN_SERVER file... RUN_SERVER file complete.
Starting server... Task failed
Unable to boot server 'xxxx'.
Server 'xxxx' was not created.

20.3.2 Analysis
Before installing Sybase, it is necessary to modify the parameters of the shared
memory of the operating system. Otherwise, the above situation will occur.

To remove the fault, proceed as follows:
1)

Modify the file /etc/system

At the end of the file add the following:


set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax= <value>
The <value> is: memory size of the Server (unit: MB) x 1024 x 1024 / 2.
Table 15-1 lists the value of shminfo_shmmax.
2)

Restart M2000 and login as dbuser using the command:

# /usr/sbin/shutdown i6 g0 y

Reinstall Sybase

20.4 Failure in Reinstalling Sybase


20.4.1 Symptom
During Sybase reinstallation, the system prompts messages such as "Server XXX
already exists in the file interfaces.

20.4.2 Analysis
The Sybase installer will create the file interfaces in the Sybase install directory. This
file contains the description of the specified Server to be configured. During
reinstallation, the Sybase installer will check the file. If the file and the name of the
specified Server to be configured already exist, the installer will consider that Sybase
has been installed in the system. In this case, the installer will stop.

20.4.3 Handling
Delete the file interfaces before reinstalling the Sybase.

20.5 Failure in Installing M2000 Server Application Software


20.5.1 Symptom
The system prompts an error message indicating database initialization failure during
the installation of M2000 Server application software.

Two modems are needed. One modem is to be connected to the PC used as the
dial-up Server and the other connected the PC used as the dial-up Client.

If the PCs are not embedded with any modem, connect one modem with each PC
and install the modem program on the PC.

If the PCs are embedded with a modem respectively, no other modem is needed.

21.2.3 Connecting PSTN Telephone Lines


Connect PSTN telephone lines as follows:
1)

Connect a PSTN telephone line to the modem of the dial-up Server.

2)

Connect a PSTN telephone line to the modem of the dial-up Client.

21.3 Configuring IP address of the Dial-up Server


Configure the IP address of the dial-up Server to be in the same network segment with
that of M2000 Server.
You need not configure the IP address of the dial-up Client. The dial-up Server
automatically allocates an IP address to the Client when you start a dial-up connection.

21.4 Configuring the Dial-up Server


Perform the following operations to configure the dial-up Server.
1)

Select [Start/Setting/Network and Dial-up Connections/Make New Connection] to


display the [Network Connection Wizard] dialog box, as shown in Figure 21-2.
Click <Next> in the dialog box.

To start a network connection, proceed as follows:

Open the dial-up Client. Select [Start/Setting/Network and Dial-up Connections]


on the commissioning computer and double click the new dial-up connection
created.

Configure the phone number to be connected (the number of the speech channel
connected to the dial-up Server) in the dialog box shown in Figure 21-14 and click
<OK>.

Enter a user name and password in the pop-up dialog box. The user name and
password entered must be the same as that configured for the dial-up Server.
Then click <OK> to start the network connection.

If setting up connection successfully, you can stop dial-up commissioning here.


Otherwise, check the configuration of the dial-up Server and Client, especially
configuration of the IP address of the Server, dial-up user and the telephone
number. If it still fails, see 21.7 Activating the Dial-in Function of Modem in
Windows.

21.7 Activating the Dial-in Function of Modem in Windows


Generally, you need no further steps for dial-up Server configuration after completing
the above steps. However, some modem manufacturers do not allow dial-in function of
their modems for security sake. Therefore, perform the following steps to activate the
dial-in function of modem after confirming that you have properly installed the modem
and correctly configured the system:
1)

Run the hyper terminal

Select [Start/Programs/Accessories/Communications/HyperTerminal] on the dial-up


Server. Enter the name of the connection and set its properties.
2)

Activate the incoming function of modem

22.2.3 Debugging PSTN Modem


Follow the procedure below to debug the modem in Solaris:
1)

Open the serial port and set baud rate for it using the command:

# tip -9600 /dev/term/a

In the command, 9600 is the baud rate and /dev/term/a refers to serial port A.

Check whether the modem is normal using the command:

If an OK message is returned, it indicates that the communications are normal.

Make a trial call to test whether the dialing function is normal using the command:

Terminate the dialing using the command:

has received an alarm. SM device can be a wireless GSM/GPRS 38K modem.

Note:
Serial ports A and B of a Sun workstation share a physical serial port in most cases. Therefore, you cannot
connect both PSTN modem and wireless modem to the workstation.

Follow the procedure below to install a wireless modem:


1)

Install a SIM card.

Follow the instruction in the user manual of the wireless modem to install a SIM card.
2)

Connect the modem to a M2000 Server with a serial port cable.

Connect the DB-9 male connector at one end of the serial port cable to modem and the
DB-9 female connector at the other end to the serial port on M2000 Server.

Note:
If the serial port on M2000 Server is also a female connector or a DB-25 connector, use a converter
between.

3)

Connect power cable to the modem.

Connect the DC power cable of the modem. For details, see the user manual of the
modem.

22.3.3 Debugging Wireless Modem


The procedure is the same as that of debugging PSTN modem. For details, see section
22.2.3 "Debugging PSTN Modem.

It is necessary to set the variable CenterNo as the Short Message Center number.
Note that the Short Message Center number should incorporate a country code. For
example, in the Short Message Center number +8613812345678, the country code is
86. In that case, set the variable CenterNo as follows:

7)

Set the coding scheme for short messages.

The coding schemes for short messages include txt (0) and Unicode (1). For an
English short message, set the variable language as 0.

Start M2000 service using the command:

Server
M2000 Server can send an Email containing alarm information to your inbox. When
checking the Email, you can know the alarm information received by M2000 Server.

Stop M2000 service using the command:

# stop_svc

It is advisable to use IP address of SMTP Server to avoid failing to connect SMTP


Server because of domain name resolution failure. Suppose that the IP address of the

6)

Set the sender name.

It is advisable to use senders Email address as the sender name. Consider the
senders Email address is abc. Set the variable Sender as abc as follows:

Set the maximum alarm items of an Email.

Suppose that an Email can contain up to 500 alarm items. Set the variable MaxItem
as 500 as follows:

Cable sequence at the two ends of a network cable is the same, 1 for white-orange, 2

white-brown and 8 for brown cable. Refer Figure A-1 for cable sequence numbering.

Generally use crossover cables to connect two devices directly instead of connecting
them through hub.

A.3.2 Cable Sequence


Cable sequence at the two ends of a network cable is not the same.
If the cable numbering at one end of the network cable is as follows:
1 for white-orange, 2 for orange, 3 for white-green, 4 for blue, 5 for white-blue, 6 for
green, 7 for white-brown and 8 for brown cable,
the cable numbering at the other end of the cable shall be as follows:
1 for white-green, 2 for green, 3 for white-orange, 4 for blue, 5 for white-blue, 6 for
