Ethos and Values

Our Ethos
St Columbas Catholic Primary School is a voluntary aided, one-form entry school with eight classes
with approximately 240 children aged between 3 and 11. It is part of the parish community of St
Columbas, Tonge Moor, Bolton.
The Governors and staff are strongly committed to building and strengthening the Catholic ethos of
the school. Underlying our teaching and our relationships are the Gospel Values of honesty and
humility, justice and mercy. Our aim, is that all members of our community show respect and care
for one another and extend their concern to the needy by prayer and charitable service.
We place a great emphasis on home, school and parish links. We seek to provide an environment
where beliefs and values of the Catholic faith are taught, explained, developed and nurtured. A
place where each child believes in their own potential, in an environment where they can succeed
and achieve.

Our Aims:

Provide a welcoming, supportive environment where beliefs and values of the Catholic faith
are taught, explained, developed and nurtured.
Make it possible for every child to learn to their full potential regardless of gender, ethnic
origin, disability or additional need and religion.
Provide a safe and happy environment in which every child is able to develop confidence,
self-knowledge, self-esteem and respect for themselves and others.
Safeguard and promote the welfare of children in all aspects of life.

Our Children.
We are very proud of every one of our children and their achievements. We help them to grow in
their faith in a supportive Catholic environment. Through carefully planned lessons, daily prayer,
Mass and reflection and practical learning experiences we help them to prepare for transition to
high school as confident, responsible and caring young people.

Our Staff
We have an experienced, talented and dedicated staff at St. Columbas who work together to
support the schools Catholic ethos and ensure that each pupil reaches his or her potential.
Our excellent standards reflect the childrens positive attitudes to learning, consistent good and
outstanding teaching and the high level of pastoral support we provide. All of which are strengths of
the school. The combined strength of our staff ensures that the ethos and values in our mission
statement provide all pupils with high quality teaching and learning within a supportive environment
and following British Values

Pupils, Parents and Pastoral Care

At St. Columbas, we take pride in the high standards of behaviour shown by our pupils.
We understand that this can only be achieved in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect. Our
success depends on the close working partnership and commitment of parents, pupils, staff and
governors.
Parents are encouraged to become fully involved in the education of their child. The Home School
Agreement and Parental Engagement symbolises our approach to parent and school working
together for the benefit of the child.
Our staff team works to ensure that any problems are dealt with swiftly and efficiently. If it is
necessary, we will inform you as parents or carers and seek your support. All our pupils wear full
school uniform.
We are proud to provide a positive and caring environment for our pupils where they can achieve,
feel safe and be happy.
