Minimum IT requirements for KLAES 7.5.0.107

This document was last updated in December 2012. More features in the program also increase the
demands on the computers. Because the requirements are ever-changing we recommend asking for the
newest specifications before installing the new KLAES software.

Please note for all following configurations of single computer / network / Terminalserver:
KLAES 7 works with the 64 Bit editions of the approved operating systems also.
KLAES 7 doesn't run on Windows 95/98/Millennium or Windows 2000/NT4!
KLAES 7.5 and higher supports Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and 2012. Important to know:

SQL Server 2012 doesn't run on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003

SQL Server 2005 doesn't run on Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012

You can't restore backups from the SQL Server 2012 to older SQL Server versions. If you are
using the SQL Server 2012 and want to transfer data to partner companies or window traders
they must use a Klaes version with SQL Server 2012 also.

KLAES 7 creates detailed calculation reports for Excel so that Microsoft Excel 2003, 2007 or 2010 should
be installed.
Klaes 7 is able to prepare emails with PDF documents if there is MAPI compatible 32 Bit email software
for the delivery.
Single Computer:
At least a Core 2 Duo CPU with two cores, 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM,
10 GB free on the hard disk and at least 3 GB free on the system partition (= where Windows is located).
DVD drive required!
Operating system: Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.
Network:
In addition to the hardware (file servers, workstations, network cards and networking) plays also the
configuration of the operating system an important role.
We recommend Fast or Gigabit Ethernet for the network topology. The network installation should be
made from a specialist to guarantee a stable, secure and efficient IT infrastructure.
Database: In a network environment, the SQL Server software "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2012
Standard edition" must be installed and purchased separately. If you buy it from us (with cheap prices)
you'll get it integrated in a KLAES setup wizard so that no deeper installation knowledge is required. If
you have already an existing SQL Server, please install additionally a SQL Server instance named
"KLAES". There is a step-by-step help manual on the KLAES DVD.

File Server: DVD drive required, at least 4 GB RAM main memory (MS SQL 2012: 8 GB RAM), at least
Intel Xeon with two cores, 20 GB free on the hard disk, at least 3 GB free on the system partition (=
where Windows is located).
Operating system: Windows 2003 SP2 (but not possible if you are using SQL Server 2012), Windows 2008
SP2 or 2008 R2 SP1, Windows 2012 (But 1. File system ReFS not supported, 2. SQL Server 2005 cant be
installed)
Terminal Server: DVD drive required, 20 GB free on the hard disk, at least 3 GB free on the system
partition (= where Windows is located).
And it's important to have enough RAM depending on the number of the clients:
Number of clients x 1024 MB + 1024 MB for the server + 2048 MB for the SQL-Server
For instance a calculation for 4 Terminal Server clients:
4 x 1024 MB + 1024 MB + 2048 MB = 7168 MB -> 8 GB RAM recommended.
To use this large memory a 64 Bit operating system is required.
Absolute minimum, only by using SQL Server 2005 and 32 bit Windows operating system:
Number of clients x 512 MB + 256 MB for the server + 768 MB for the SQL-Server
For instance a calculation for 4 Terminal Server clients:
4 x 512 MB + 256 MB + 768 MB = 3072 MB -> 4 GB RAM recommended.
Operating system: Windows 2003 SP2 (but not possible if you are using SQL Server 2012), Windows 2008
SP2 or 2008 R2 SP1, Windows 2012 (But 1. File system ReFS not supported, 2. SQL Server 2005 cant be
installed)
We strongly recommend the 64-bit editions because they can handle more memory.
If you have many clients and big databases (for instance material administration) we suggest running a
2nd server for the SQL databases.
For instance if your existing server is already older than 3.5 years you could replace it with a fast new
server and could use your old one for the SQL databases. So the new server mustn't keep the big
databases in memory and the Terminal Sessions are running faster.
Network Client PCs: At least Pentium 4 (or similar), 2.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM (better 1 GB or 2GB RAM), 3
GB free space on the hard disk drive.
Operating system: Windows XP with service pack 3, Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.
If you work on a Terminal Server you can use for the Terminal Clients older operating systems also.
Tip:
For a network we recommend a Windows Terminal Server. This operating mode has unique benefits
compared to traditional network systems.
In particular the high performance and the worldwide accessibility are big advantages. But it makes great
demands on the configuration and installation of the hard- and software. So, if you have interest to use
