MALE BREAST

GYNECOSMASTIA

Enlargement of the male breast

Physiologically :
- Unilateral (usual) / bilateral
- Occurs usually at puberty
- Cause is unknown but may related to some
hormonal imbalance

Pathologically :
- Male analogue of fibrocystic change in
female breast
- May occur to response of absolute / relative
estrogen excess
- Exp ; 1. Cirrhosis of the liver 2. Estrogen
secreting tumors 3. Estrogen theraphy
- Occurs usually at puberty and old age
- Usually bilateral, occasionally unilateral

GROSSLY ;
- A button like subaerolar swelling

MP ;
1. diffuse proliferation of dense periductal
collagenous CT
2. marked intraductal hyperplasia with multilayered
epithelium

CARCINOMA
Rare tumor
Advance age
Rapidly infiltrates the overlying
skin and the underlying thoracic
wall
Resembles invasive carcinoma of
the female breast
