STEEL

Steel gives tensile strength to concrete and masonry structures, and

provides seismic performance. Our high quality steel, manufactured
in New Zealand from recycled scrap, is produced with minimal
adverse environmental effects, winning it Environmental Choice
labelling certification.
Reinforcing Steel

Plain Carbon Steel

Pacific Steels Seismic brand range of

reinforcing steel products is manufactured to meet
the demanding technical standards set by
New Zealands building codes. Our reinforcing steel
undergoes rigorous testing to ensure compliance
with the AS/NZS Standard. Test certificates,
providing details on mechanical and chemical
composition, are available on request for every
batch of steel that leaves our premises.

Our low tensile, plain carbon steel rod is created

in a range of grades. This standard industrial
quality low carbon steel is manufactured for cold
drawing or rolling into reinforcing wires, and
general industrial forming wires. All four grades
are suitable for continuous hot-dip galvanising.

Pacific Steel Group

REINFORCING STEEL
STRAIGHT BAR
Grade 300E
Lower tensile, higher ductility plain carbon
steel for the reinforcing of concrete available
as plain and deformed bars. This steel meets
the demanding requirements of the seismic
structural design methods employed in
New Zealand by meeting the requirements of
the reinforcing steel Standard AS/NZS 4671.

Grade 300 steel is readily: weldable (refer

AS/NZS 1554.3), identifiable by registered bar
marks (excluding plain), hot or cold bent (for
procedures refer to NZS 3109), threaded and
galvanised. Test Certificates are available for
every production batch of this product from
Pacific Steel.

REINFORCING STEEL
STRAIGHT BAR
REIDBAR Grade 500E MA (MICRO-ALLOY)
in New Zealand as required by the reinforcing

High tensile, high ductility plain carbon steel

for the reinforcing of concrete available with a
unique deformation pattern. The deformation
pattern allows the use of threaded fittings in
a structural connection system developed by
Reid Construction Systems. The product is
available as bar in most standard diameters.
Although essentially a threaded bar, this steel
meets the demanding requirements of the
seismic structural design methods employed

WIRE

Pacific Steels wire products include a variety of reinforcing wires, zinc/

aluminium coated manufacturing wires, fencing wires, and speciality
amouring and strand wires. A range of tensile strengths and diameters
are produced.
Reinforcing and BCW Wire

Zinc/Aluminium Coated Wire

Reinforcing wire is produced from plain carbon

steel to meet specific chemical requirements.
Every batch of reinforcing wire is sampled and
diameter and tensile tested.

Zinc/Aluminium coated wire is produced

for manufacturing and fencing applications.
Manufacturing wire is produced with a range
of coating thicknesses. The addition of five
percent of aluminium alloy to the original
zinc coating makes the wire more durable.

Bending and cross welding wire (BCW) is

manufactured from a specifically developed
low carbon grade steel rod.

Bright
BCW is manufactured from a specifically
developed low carbon grade steel and will meet
the specifications shown below. Although not
guaranteed as a plating quality wire, customers

do chrome plate the product. Pacific Steel BCW

will meet the requirements of BS 1052:1980

BCW WIRE (BENDING

Cleaned
Pacific Steel also produces BCW wire as a
distinctive, cleaned wire. This product is cleaned
in-line during drawing to produce a very
bright finish. Care must be taken by customers
to use the cleaned wire immediately, as the

uncontaminated surface has no lubricant barrier

to protect the steel. Therefore the surface
will quickly begin to rust if the wire is stored.

ZINC/ALUMINIUM COATED
MANUFACTURING WIRE
Zinc/aluminium coated manufacturing wire
is generally produced to meet the property
specifications set out in the tables below.
However, manufacturing wire can be produced
with a range of coating thicknesses and with

any combination of low, medium, or high tensile

strengths. The zinc/aluminium coatings are
manufactured to AS/NZS4534:2006 Zinc and
Zinc/Aluminium-Alloy Coatings on Steel Wire.

ZINC/ALUMINIUM COATED
FENCING WIRE
Plain zinc/aluminium-coated fencing wire is
used in the construction of parallel-wire fence
and trellis. To assist with manual handling,
fence wire is usually supplied in relatively small
coils weighing approximately 25kg, although
coils of up to 50kg can also be produced.
These coils are actually manufactured to a
guaranteed minimum length to allow the
quantity of wire required for a fence to be

easily calculated. New Zealand fencing wire is

essentially produced to meet the local fencing
wire Standard NZS3471:1974 Specification
of Galvanised Steel Fencing Wire - Plain and
Barbed, except that the more durable zinc/
aluminium coating is now applied at Pacific Steel.
However, zinc/aluminium coatings are produced
to meet the steel wire coating Standard,
AS/NZS4534:2006.
