Language Policy
Purpose
Language is an attitude and a well reflected
thought. Based on this premise, school strives
to develop love for language.
Mother tongue
The development of mother tongue
is central to the development
of all cognitive skills in children.
In general, students with good mother
tongue skills develop good general language
skills and thus good skills in English.
As language is part of ones identity the
recognition of mother tongue and the
culture associated with it increase a childs
self-esteem and general sense of well-being.
While mother tongue is the natural language
a child acquires, there is a need to
accentuate the spoken and written forms
in grammatically and reasonably accepted
norms. To encourage respect for diversity
and love for mother tongue, occasions
and events are created to express talents
through mother tongue.
Pronunciation
Professional Development
In PYP Classes
In the Primary Years Programme ranging
from PP I to Grade V, language is linked
to all aspects of the curriculum and is steered
by the Homeroom teachers.
Handwriting
IBO & NCF
IBOs Scope and Sequence document
and the National Curriculum
Framework guide the approach
to teaching English and other
languages.
Thus the school carefully takes
care of meeting the aims and objectives
of both the national system and the
international system within the school.
There are course outlines for each
language as an entry level and exit level
expectations at each Grade level. These
course outlines are intended to ensure
continuity and development of the
language courses offered by the school.
Assessment
Assessment in language like all other subject
areas within the school is carried out in
accordance with the schools assessment
policy guidelines. These guidelines follow the
general principles of the IBO Primary Years
Programmes as well as the National
curriculum guidelines.
ASSESSMENT POLICY
The Silver Oaks Culture on Assessment
It is a culture of success backed by a belief that all pupils can achieve
Purpose
To Motivate
Philosophy
To Empower
To enable all students to experience the
productive emotional dynamics of
winning, we need to move from exclusive
reliance on assessment that verify
learning to the use of assessment that
support learning - that is assessment for
learning
Dr Stephen R Covey
Types of Assessment
Recording
REC: A prior knowledge test will be conducted at
the beginning of every UOI. The record will be filed
in the student portfolio.

will be filed in the Student portfolio.
REC: Teachers maintain anecdotal records, record
of achievements, activity record and grades
register.
REC: During the formative stages, whenever the
teachers perceive a need for extra support,
supportive task will be assigned with intimation to
parents and students.
Reporting
REP: The portfolio is sent home twice during the
UOI for parents perusal.
REP:A summative report after every UOI is sent.
Benchmarks
For the sake of teaching learning process
and assessment, the expected learner
outcomes are defined in terms
of Benchmarks.
Medical Matters
When students are sick or hurt in the
school, parents are called.
In case of injury the child is rushed to
the hospital & simultaneously the
parents are called to the hospital to take
charge of their ward from there.
In order to do this, we need accurate
contact information at all times.
