17-Relationship of Sociology with other social science.

The life of man is many sided. There is an economic aspect, lrgal aspect,a religious aspect, political
aspect, and so forth. sociology ,therefore ,can understand a social life as a whole ,by taking help from
other social sciences which stdy exclusively one or the other aspects OS human society.Sociology ,for
example ,in order to understand a particular society has to take material of the economics ,political
science ,history, anthropology, religion, morals ,law an finally interaction with the rest of the world.
Therefore all sciences are interrelate an interdependent.
Sociology not only borrows from other social sciences but other social sciences also dependent on
sociology. Actually there are two types of social sciences called special sciences which deals special
activity of society like economics, psychology etc. The second type of social sciences calle general social
sciences which undertake comprehensively .Sociology comes in category of general science.
Relation between sociology and Anthropology:
Anthropology and sociology also deal with society but the only difference is that social anthropology
mainly considers small groups and their culture but their area of study is basically the same. Actually
both are same ,two names for the same field enquiry.. The study of ancient and simple societies are
done by Anthropology ,while on the basis of that sociology studies the wider and complex societies.
Anthropology has been divided in to three parts.A-Physical Anthropology ,which deals with
physical/bodily traits/features of early man and our primitive centuries back counterparts. with the help
of that sociology try to know the reality of struggles among various groups.
Sociology and anthropology analyze experiences at the level of the individual or the group and connect
them to larger social dynamics. The disciplines illustrate how matters that are often perceived as
private troubles are actually consequences of cultural categories and social structures, including those
that appear and feel natural and inevitable. Among the goals of sociology and anthropology are to
acquire knowledge about different groups, cultures, and to engage critically with the complexities of
social life.
The Sociology and Anthropology Department provides students with intellectual tools for understanding
contemporary and historical social issues, such as globalization, nationalism, racism, sexism,
embodiment, and the complex layering of social inequalities in everyday life. These two disciplines
approach the study of social life from different avenues, each bringing a set of separate and overlapping
analytical and research tools to intellectual tasks that are complementary and synergistic. Our students
seek knowledge about societies of the world and the social dynamics within them. To that end, our
majors each conduct independent projects based on primary research and/or fieldwork during their
senior year.
Sociology is of great importance in the solution of social problems: The present world is suffering from
many problems which can be solved through scientific study of the society. It is the task of sociology to
study the social problems through the methods of scientific research and to find out solution to them.
The scientific study of human affairs will ultimately provide the body of knowledge and principles that
will enable us to control the conditions of social life and improve them.
Sociology has made great contribution to enrich human culture: Human culture has been made richer by
the contribution of sociology. The social phenomenon is now understood in the light of scientific
knowledge and enquiry. According to Lowie most of us harbor the comfortable delusion that our way of
doing things is the only sensible if not only possible one. Sociology has given us training to have rational
approach to questions concerning oneself, one's religion, customs, morals and institutions. It has further
taught us to be objective, critical and dispassionate. It enables man to have better understanding both
of himself and of others. By comparative study of societies and groups other than his existence ,his life
becomes richer and fuller than it would otherwise be. Sociology also impresses upon us the necessity of
overcoming narrow personal prejudices, ambitions and class hatred.
The value of sociology lies in the fact that it keeps us update on modern situations: It contributes to
making good citizens and finding solutions to the community problems. It adds to the knowledge of the
society. It helps the individual find his relation to society.
