CHARTER CHANGE OR CHA-CHA


House Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr. attempted to push for the constitutional change
process by convening the House of Representatives of the Philippines and the Senate of
the Philippines into a Constituent Assembly or con-ass (one of the 3 modes of which
the 1987 Philippine Constitution could be amended).

2007
MANILA PENINSULA SIEGE
The Manila Peninsula Siege occurred on November 29, 2007 at The Peninsula Makati
hotel in Makati, Philippines. Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, Brigadier General Danilo Lim,
and 25 other MAGDALO mutineers walked out of their trial and marched through the
streets of Makati. The mutineers called for the ousting of President Gloria MacapagalArroyo, and seized the Rizal function room on the second floor of Manila Peninsula
along Ayala Avenue. Former Vice-President Teofisto Guingona, Jr. as well as some of
the soldiers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines joined the march to the hotel.
Trillanes and Lim surrendered to government forces after a military armored personnel
carrier barged into the glass door of the hotel lobby and the hotel walls and windows
sustained weapons damage. Trillanes and the mutinees were arrested while several
journalists covering the event were detained. The journalists were subsequently
released.

2008
NBN-ZTE SCANDAL
involved allegations of corruption in the awarding of a US$329 million construction
contract to Chinese telecommunications firm ZTE for the proposed governmentmanaged National Broadband Network (NBN)
The contract with ZTE was signed on April 20, 2007 in Hainan, China. Following the
emergence of irregularities, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo cancelled the National
Broadband Network project in October 2007. On July 14, 2008, the Supreme Court
dismissed all three petitions questioning the constitutionality of the national
broadband deal, saying the petitions became moot when the project was cancelled.

HELLO GARCI TAPE


Hello Garci was a political scandal and electoral crisis in the Philippines, The scandal
involved former president Gloria Macapal-Arroyo and Noli de Castro the presidency and
vice presidency, respectively. Hundreds of national and local positions were questioned
during this election. The scandal and crisis began in June 2005 when audio recordings of
a phone call conversation between President Arroyo and then Election Commissioner
Virgilio Garcillano allegedly talking about the rigging of the 2004 national election
results, were released to the public. This escalated when the minority of the lower
house of Congress attempted to impeach Arroyo.

2009
MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE
The Maguindanao massacre, also known as the Ampatuan massacre after the town
where the mass graves were found, occurred on the morning of November 23, 2009, in
the town of Ampatuan in Maguindanao province, on the island of Mindanao in the
Philippines. While the 58 victims were on their way to file a certificate of candidacy for
Esmael Mangudadatu, vice mayor of Buluan town, they were kidnapped and brutally
killed. Mangudadatu was challenging Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan, Jr., son of
the incumbent Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan, Sr. and member of one of
Mindanao's leading Muslim political clans, in the forthcoming Maguindanao
gubernatorial election,[4] part of the national elections in 2010. The people killed
included Mangudadatu's wife, his two sisters, journalists, lawyers, aides, and motorists
who were witnesses or were mistakenly identified as part of the convoy.

Arroyo administration.

2011

ARREST OF FORMER PRES GMA


Former President GMA was arrested after a Pasay court issued a warrant of arrest
against her, following the filing of complaint for electoral sabotage by the Commission
on Elections. The arrest warrant was served at St. Lukes Medical Center at Taguig
where Arroyo had been confined.
IMPEACHMENT COMPLAINT AGAINST CJ CORONA
188members of the House of Representatives signed an impeachment complaint
against Chief Justice Renato Corona. As only 95 signatures were necessary for the
impeachment of Corona by the House of Representatives under the Constitution, the
impeachment complaint was to be transmitted to the Senate for trial. The Senate of
the Philippines convenes as an impeachment court against Chief Justice Renato
Corona.

2012
CJ CORONA IMPEACHMENT

Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona was voted 20-3, guilty and convicted at the
conclusion of the Impeachment trial and was removed from office.
BANGSAMORO
The Philippine government signed a much-hyped document touted as the Framework
Agreement on the Bangsamoro, which culminates the Aquino Administrations effort
to end the deadlock in peace process. This new document, while merely providing for a
general framework for the actual peace negotiations, announces that the status quo is
unacceptable and that Bangsamoro shall be established to replace the Autonomous
Region in Muslim Minadanao (ARMM). According to President Aquino, this was the
agreement that can finally seal genuine, lasting peace in Mindanao. With
Bangsamoro replacing ARMM which was described by President Aquino as a failed
experiment.

RESIGNATION OF JUAN PONCE ENRILE
Senator Juan Ponce Enrile resigns as Senate President amidst various allegations
against the senator.
INDEPENDENCE OF BANGSAMORO REPUBLIK
MNLF leader Nur Misuari unilaterally declared the independence of Bangsamoro
Republik. The Philippine government refuses to recognize the republic and no other
foreign governments has officially recognized the republic.
MILLION PEOPLE MARCH
Widespread protests against Priority Development Assistance Fund Scam was
organized nationwide and were attended by thousands of people. This was the biggest
demonstration held in Luneta Park, Manila.
SURRENDER OF JANET NAPOLES
Just hours after Malacanang set a P10-million bounty for any information leading to her
arrest, Janet Napoles surrendered to President Benigno Aquino III. SHE also faced the
Senate for the first time to answer the allegations against her.

2014
SIGNING OF BANGSAMORO FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT
The Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front (MILF) have finally signed the fourth and last annex of the Framework
Agreement on the Bangsamoro, an agreement between the two parties that calls for
the creation of the autonomous political entity named Bangsamoro replacing the
Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.

SWISS ACCOUNT OF FERDINAND MARCOS


The government had announced that it had recovered the secret Swiss accounts of
former President Ferdinand E. Marcos amounting to 1.3 billion pesos after a Singapore
court ruled that Philippine National Bank had the legal rights to the accounts. The
accounts were already transferred to the National Treasury on February 5.
PDAF SCAM
The 10 billion pork barrel Scam started with the accusation that JLN Corporation
(trading company or syndicate), which is headed by Janet Lim Napoles with his brother
Reynaldo Jojo Lim, has defrauded the government of 10 billion over the past 10 years
wherein they use the funds from the pork barrel of lawmakers with her vast network
and various government agencies for ghost projects that involved the creation of at
least 20 fake or bogus NGOs.
Benhur Luy (cousin of Napoles and personal assistant in JLN Corporation) is the
whistleblower of this pork barrel scam. He said the Napoles work by forging signatures
of local governments, fabricating names of beneficiaries of state funds and
manufacturing receipts.
CONTROVERSIAL TV AND PRINT ADS OF BIR
Professionals, specifically doctors and some tax payers were attacked in the print ads
and tv commercials released by BIR showing that doctors are being carried by a
teacher, a chef carrying an accountant, and a construction foreman carrying an online
seller. The message is simple: some taxpayers pay less than they should, becoming a
burden to the lower-paid taxpayers, who are automatically taxed by their employers.
This later on resulted to different reactions by the doctors, who have seen the tv and
print ads as unfair and very insensitive.
FILING OF PLUNDER CASE TO SEN. REVILA, ENRILE, AND ESTRADA

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, chaired by Senator Teofisto Guingona III,
announced and recommended the filing of plunder and graft charges to Senators Juan
Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada, and Bong Revilla together with Janet Lim-Napoles over
their involvement in the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam. The
Office of the Ombudsman later announced that they will file plunder and graft charges
to LimNapoles, and to the three involved Senators.
US PRESIDENT OBAMAS VISIT TO THE PHILIPPINES
United States President Barack Obama visited the country as part of his "four-nation
Asian tour." He visited President Aquino III and discussed with him several bilateral and
defense issues involving the two countries.[111] Hours ahead of the arrival of President
Obama, the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) was signed by the U.S.
and the Philippines. The agreement grants the temporary use of the local military bases
for the US forces.
DISBURSEMENT ALLOCATION FUND (DAP)

under the Aquino administration's Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP)
