Event Management
The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) industry is a multi-million dollar industry specialised in hosting
and organizing events, such as corporate conferences, incentive travels, VIP meetings, festivals, seminars, branch-related
events and exhibitions. The MICE industry is a growing industry that is in need of skilled and professional event organisers.
Particularly interpersonal skills, (project) management skills and a deep financial insight are important. Also interaction
with stakeholders, insight in new media and marketing knowledge are essential qualities of an event organiser.
Introduction minor
In this minor you will organize a real-life event in cooperation with experts from the local MICE industry. As there is a variety of different events to choose from, the minor will start-off with a bid presentation where you and your group get the
chance to convince the client to accept your bid.
After you have been assigned to an event, you and your group will work on organizing this particular event throughout the
complete module. You will do this in close contact with the (external) client and the CEO (the Stenden tutor who will support the process). Meetings with your group, your external client and your tutor will therefore be the main activities during this module. Be aware that the events you are dealing with would require a planning phase of up to over a year, making it - most of the time - impossible for you to go through all project planning phases until the actual implementation.
Educational method
- Pitch (in a short presentation you need to convince the client of your strengths);
- Client meetings (in these meetings you will discuss details and requirements of the event with your client);
- CEO meetings (develop your event preparation in project journals with your tutor);
- Feedback sessions (during these sessions you will share the ongoing business);
- Management Skills (preparing you for the Asian way of doing business);
- Venue Inspections (an integral part of any Event Organizer).
