Sometimes will say that genres are book categories. Some would say that a genre is
Romantic. Genre is everything. Genre is a noun. Google said the word is of French origin,
being implemented with the word gender, or literally meaning a kind. Some other words
that mean almost the same exact thing as genre but basically spelled differently are;
category, class, classification, group there are literally hundreds more. All types of media
such as music, book, magazines, and movies have their own genres.
The Music
Doo Wop That Thing By: Lauryn Hill. The song throws words into your head of being careful
with who you give your heart to not those exact words, but Lauryn Hill portrays through
symbolism and rhythm that men and women can be out for one thing; that one thing not
being in your best interest.

can relate to. Like Lauryn Hill, Erykah Bada composes similar songs that suggest hurt and
heart ache. Bag Lady song by Erykah Badu delivers the same message as Hills song, being
used isn't the the right way to be loved.

The Genre
The music that Lauryn creates can sit into a realm of categories or genres like r&b and soul.
To get to the more specific side of things her music sits in a genre called neo soul.
Neo soul was introduced by a music industry entrepreneur Kedar Massenburg. This specific
genre of art is described to be a style of music that emerged from soul and contemporary
r&b. It is distinguished greatly by a lesser conventional sound, but more of incorporated
elements such as jazz, funk, hip hop, and fusion. Imagine, or more so hear yourself listening
to a story in lyric and song. The music is fun and jumpy although a deeper message is being
deliver to its listeners. Others artist that can contribute to the neo soul genre are Macy Gray
Do Something and Kelis Trick Me.
In Doo Wop That Thing, a story is told through attitude, a type of attitude that some
guys and some girls that are referred to in Doo Woop That Thing would take offense
to. The song is jumpy and full of energy, while she raps she laughs making the song very funky
also giving it a playful vibe.

Who,What,Why
Personally I believe the audience is to anybody that can relate. Again, Lauryns purpose is to
sway the listener from being used or being blinded by what is actually happening. Though the
music is very jumpy and jumpy, she pushes her message across by being repetitive with her
words.
Doo Wop was a song produced in the late 90s, throughout society there really wasn't a big
movement that the song made, but music culture would never be the same again.

A New Feel
Putting this song into a new genre I would take the base out of it. The music would have less
of a hip hop tune and have more of a subtle vibe; blues. The music would be so subtle that
itll almost feel sad. Instead of all the base, therell a bass string and a piano playing along
with the song, like a deep south feel. There wouldn't be the same audience but he same
message would a sent across. There wouldn't be a big culture boom I believe because of how
similar the black culture is, even in the last 20 years.

Overall I really liked this essay, some simple starters to help is to indent each and every start of a
new paragraph. Also to create a header with your name or class and the page number. When you
have done research and want to create what someone has found make sure you credit the website
or person. Also put more emphasis on what and how the people can relate to the music. When
putting headings in the start of a new paragraph to title the overall paragraph make sure the
writing is bigger or bold to separate, so the reader can understand. When writing in stead of
wouldnt, say would not to be more grammatically correct. Make sure you also are following the
correct MLA format which is 12 in wiring in Times New Roman writing. As well as having the
date and professors name at the top. If you could put more detail describing what R&B, Soul,
and Neo Soul combination. When transferring the change in genre clarify the change to Hip Hop
and make stronger emphasis on the types of genre, so the audience can truly get a feel for the
type of music. Try to avoid using fun and up beat and truly describe the sound and beat use
more convincing and understanding words. Find some synonyms that can work.
