GENERAL ADMISSION POLICIES


Brigham Young University (BYU) , Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYU-I), Brigham Young University-Hawaii (BYU-H) and LDS
Business College (LDSBC) exist to provide an education consistent with the religious and family values taught by The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In admission we prefer members of the Church in good standing but will not unlawfully
discriminate against applicants based upon gender, race, creed, religion, national origin, age, or disability who meet the
requirements; who agree to abide by the Honor Code and Dress and Grooming Standards; and who are otherwise qualified
based upon available space.

Clery Act Annual Security Report and Annual Fire Safety Report - As required by federal law, each higher education institution
in the Church Educational System publishes an annual security report and fire safety report, which is made available to
prospective students. This report contains important missing persons and emergency evacuation procedures. Three years' worth
of statistics are included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occured on campus, in or on off-campus
buildings or property owned or controlled by the schools, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campus.

BYU, BYU-I, BYU-H, and LDSBC are affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Church Educational System
(CES). It is the policy of CES to share educational records with its affiliates. Confidentiality of student records policy is printed
in each institution's catalog.
Because of enrollment limitations, BYU, BYU-I and BYU-H will not admit a student who has previously received a degree
equivalent to the one sought.
Failure to provide complete data will result in dismissal from the university.
Under certain circumstances, students may defer enrollment for a mission. Please contact the respective Admissions Office for
more information.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
CES does not accept faxed college transcripts. They may be sent to CES in the following ways:
1. Through the mail as an offical transcript, including the school seal and registrar signature.
2. Electronically through Parchment Exchange, National Student Clearinghouse or Scrip-Safe.
3. EDI for students transferring from BYU-Idaho to one of the other CES Schools
U.S. New Freshman Students applying while in High School/Home School/High School Graduate must complete and submit:

Home School students should contact the school(s) they are applying to for information regarding home school policies.
U.S. Transfer Students applying with fewer than 24 semester/36 quarter hours of graded college/university credit and who
have attended college since graduating from high school should follow the requirements for U.S. New Freshman Students.
U.S. Transfer Students applying with at least 24 semester/36 quarter hours or more of graded college/university credit and
have attended college since graduating from high school must complete and submit the following:

Concurrent Enrollment Students (a high school student who wishes to be considered for admission as a part-time student
while enrolled in a local high school) must complete and submit:

Concurrent enrollment voucher (available from each school's Admissions Office)
Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.7 or higher for BYU and BYU-H or 3.0 or higher for LDSBC

No application fee is required for BYU or BYU-H, $35 fee is required for BYU-I & LDSBC

NOTIFICATION OF APPLICATION STATUS AND ADMISSION


Once complete, each school to which you applied will notify you of their admission decision. Track your status and decision
online at www.BeSmart.com.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS & U.S. CITIZENS LIVING IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY/TERRITORY
Official English Language test results are required of applicants from non-English speaking countries or whose primary or native
language is not English. BYU, BYU-Idaho and LDSBC will accept the TOEFL, IELTS and Pearson tests. LDSBC will also accept the
MELAB. Test scores must be submitted directly to the university by the testing company. Unofficial scores submitted by
students will not be accepted. The minimum score requirements to be eligible for consideration are as follows:
TOEFL Internet-based test
BYU-Idaho and LDSBC requires 66 Overall score with sub-scores of 17 reading, 17 writing, 16 speaking, 16 listening
BYU requires 80 Overall score with sub-scores of 20 reading, 20 writing, 20 speaking, 20 listening
TOEFL paper test
550 Overall score with sub-score of 55 in reading, 55 in listening, 58 in writing
IELTS Test
BYU requires 6.5 Overall score with sub-scores of 6.0 in reading, 6.0 writing, 6.0 listening, 6.5 speaking
BYU-Idaho and LDSBC requires 6.0 Overall score with sub-scores of 6.0 in reading, 5.0 writing, 6.0 listening, 5.5
speaking
Pearson Test
BYU requires 53 Overall score with sub-scores of 49 reading, 49 writing, 49 listening, 49 speaking
BYU-Idaho and LDSBC requires 46 Overall score with sub-scores of 47 reading, 47 writing, 45 listening, 45 speaking
MELAB Test (LDSBC Only)
73 Grammar, 73 Listening, 73 Writing, 3 Speaking
BYU ONLY English Proficiency exam scores expire after two years. BYU requires a current TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE regardless of
the amount of time spent in the US or in a US college/university. If your score will expire before the application deadline, you
will need to submit a current score.
BYU-Hawaii BYU-Hawaii accepts the TOEFL, Michigan, IELTS, STEP (Japanese students only), and Pearson tests. Applicants
with scores in the ranges listed below must take an English placement test for enrollment in BYU-H's English as an International
Language program. (Those scoring above these ranges are exempt).

(The following information is for those applying to BYU, BYU-Idaho, and LDSBC)
All secondary education and college work (not US accredited) done outside of the United States must be evaluated by an
international credential evaluation agency at the applicant's expense. The CES schools' preferred agency is International
Education Research Foundation (IERF) http://www.ierf.org/byu-ces. When selecting report type, please choose "detail report."
If you choose World Education Services, WES, the required type of evaluation report for high school (secondary education)
documents is "DxD", and the required type of evaluation report for college or university documents is "CxC".
Choosing alternate evaluations may result in additional fees and a delay in the assessment. We suggest that you arrange for
your academic documents to be submitted to IERF or WES 4-6 weeks before our admission application deadline in order to
allow enough time for the company to submit the evaluation to CES.
ACT or SAT is required for all students applying to BYU. BYU-Idaho and BYU-Hawaii only require it of students from Canada and
the U.S. territories and those educated in a U.S. based educational system.
International Post-baccalaureate Studies Applicants (BYU only) (a baccalaureate degree and a cumulative 3.0 grade
