SHIP SAGGING AND HOGGING

Ship sagging and hogging is derived from the allowable ship deflection assuming the wave peaks at
the bow and stern end locations of the ship. The ship is assumed to be supported at both extreme
ends and the maximum allowable deflection at the midship is L/500, where L is taken as 172 metres.

Since is relatively small angle, it is assumed that the curvature is almost a straight line. With this
assumption, the deflection at the Flare Tower stools support can be calculated. The sagging and
hogging will be used for Heaving Down and Heaving Up respectively.

Basic Load 7 :

Sagging at FR73

= (-) 109.00 mm

Sagging at FR75

= (-) 76.62 mm

Hogging at FR 73

= (+) 109.00 mm

Hogging at FR 75

= (+) 76.62 mm

It is assumed that the extreme storm condition only will be able to cause the ship hull to deflect to
the maximum allowable deflection of L/500.
