The driving force behind this series

of publications was born in England,
just one year into World War Two.
People dying not in combat
but from health problems relating
to lifestyle, including his own parents,
was the life-amending catalyst
which launched Jake Anthony’s
lifelong interest in health, fitness and
life extension - and a search for
answers.
A wish to become a professional actor and writer was ful-
filled through hard work and dedication against the odds, and Jake
Anthony obtained a degree of ‘celebrity’ over the years. His work
as a character actor can still be seen on TV from time to time.
Jake also became one of the most published writers who
nobody knows about! This was due to his work going mainly
uncredited as an internationally published journalist in advertising
and PR; under pseudonyms as author, with many ‘to-kill-for’ re-
views; and as editor and/or ghost writer for others. Jake had a
couple of small ‘best sellers’ in the East and the West, and is the
man behind a handful of ‘cult’ novels which change hands for
large sums via on-line booksellers.
4
Another life-amending incident occurred when his extremely
fit and healthy actor and stunt man son, died from an interaction
between prescribed drugs. Like ‘Lord Jim’ - Joseph Conrad’s char-
acter in the book and movie - Jake left his homeland and wan-
dered the Orient for 20 plus years trying to make sense of it all.
This was interrupted by a series of health disasters at the
hands of the allopathic medical system in the West which would
have killed most people. Ironically, they were initiated by prescribed
drugs that were supposed to cure, not kill. This was added to by
the Western system of treating the symptom rather than fully iden-
tifying the cause.
Jake’s series of the potential lifestyle based killers included
cancer, crisis level hypertension, borderline type-2 diabetes, acute
and chronic pancreatitis, and gallstones. As prescribed drugs had
initiated his series of interlinked health disasters - and time after
time exacerbated them - Jake turned his back on the Western
medical system and from then on utilised nutritional, holistic and
alternative therapies known about for thousands of years in the
Orient and the East. His host of ailments regressed or were con-
trolled, and extra decades of life were obtained. Some joint prob-
lems came later, but you would not believe it when you see the
author pumping iron and skipping (jump rope) like an in-shape boxer.
tifying the cause.
The author’s ‘beating the odds’ experience and use of ho-
listic and alternative therapies, almost certainly played a part in his
survival. The ‘How To’ and ‘Why’ are detailed in this series of
books. Jake’s fit and youthful appearance belies the fact that he is
technically a senior citizen, well over the age of retirement.

Foreword
Research continues to confirm that the ageing process can be
slowed down by making simple lifestyle changes, such as altering
the way we eat.
The habit of eating convenience foods from Big Food com-
panies dedicated to profit by any means - which means the cheap-
est ingredients and any process which leads to a long shelf life
regardless of how much it reduces the nutritive quality of what
they are selling us - has effectively led us to predominately eat
‘dead food’. ‘Soylent Green’. [*] Epidemics of many degenera-
tive ailments and diseases are the result of such corporate greed
wherever convenience foods and junk food ravage the planet, and
traditional ways of growing and cooking foods are discarded.
In the modern world nothing can be taken for granted, as
far too many corporations supplying our food place profit before
business integrity. As such, a comprehensive and easy to under-
stand guide to foods, supplements and herbs that can potentially
extend life by reducing the rate at which our body cells age, is
worth its weight in gold.
The author’s ‘beating the odds’ experience and use of ho-
listic and alternative therapies, almost certainly played a part in his
survival. The ‘How To’ and ‘Why’ are detailed in this series of
books. Jake’s fit and youthful appearance belies the fact that he is

WHY WE AGE

Research continues to confirm that the ageing process can be

slowed down by making simple lifestyle changes.
The habit of eating convenience foods from multinational
companies dedicated to profit by any means - which means the
cheapest ingredients and any process which leads to a long shelf
life regardless of how much it reduces the nutritive quality of what
they are selling us - has effectively led us to predominately eat
‘dead food’. ‘Soylent Green’. [*]
This has led to an epidemic of ailments and diseases such
as obesity, diabetes, allergies, heart attack, stroke, cancer and more,
leading to an early death. It also speeds up the ageing process.
Some good news is that as well as delaying and reducing
wrinkles, lack of energy and limp libido - the more obvious symp-
toms of ageing - certain foods and supplements can prevent or
slow down the onset of degenerative diseases such as Alzheim-
er’s, cataracts, diabetes-2, thinning bones, osteoporosis, stiff joints,
circulatory loss, thickening of the arteries, stroke, heart attack and
cancer, all of which can accompany the ageing process.
Foods and nature-derived supplements high in antioxidants
are one of the keys to staying young. Antioxidants destroy free
radicals. Free radicals attack the body and over time, cause or
contribute to the symptoms of ageing - wrinkles, arthritis, a com-
promised immune system.
Fruit and vegetables are powerful sources of antioxidants,
and vegetarians live longer than those whose diet contains meat.
‘Organic’ fruit and vegetables contain the most potent anti-
oxidants and are minus harmful pesticides and non-organic fertilis-
ers, so go organic whenever possible.
13
But science has confirmed that there are many dietary sup-
plements which can help prevent ageing and the symptoms of
ageing.
A regular exercise routine is also a major factor in delaying
the ageing process.
A major force in the body that causes us to age is ‘oxidative
stress’. This occurs when the body’s supply of antioxidants are
insufficient to neutralise free radicals.
A free radical is a molecule with an unpaired electron. This
makes it highly unstable. To become whole again, it steals an elec-
tron from a stable molecule to heal itself, creating another free
radical. This stealing continues until a free radical riot ensues. This
is called ‘oxidative stress’.
When this occurs, the result is massive cell damage that
can lead to cell mutations such as cancer, tissue breakdown, a
compromised immune system, and ageing.
Preventing or reducing ‘oxidative stress’ can result in a
healthier old age and a much younger appearance.
Antioxidants control and neutralise free radicals by giving
them the electron they need to become stable. The main antioxi-
dants are vitamins A, C and E, and the minerals selenium and zinc.
Donkey milk is the closest to human milk and contains 60
times more vitamin C than cow’s milk, so is full of antioxidants.
The world’s oldest woman believed the secret of her lon-
gevity was regular consumption of donkey milk. Unlike cow’s milk,
donkey milk contains no bacteria. In 2006, Maria Esther de Capovilla,
the world’s oldest woman, passed away at the age of 116.
Other lifestyle factors which the world’s oldest woman prac-
tised, was that she ate three meals a day and never smoked. So
she never gorged herself in one go, but gave the stomach only
14
what it was capable of digesting The only alcohol she consumed
was a small glass of wine with lunch, and red wine contains high
levels of beneficial antioxidants.
This author is not recommending that every family buys a
donkey and milks it each day as that is obviously impractical in
today’s urban world. But, virgin coconut oil comes close to the
structure and nutritive value of donkey milk and is more readily
available. However, it is far easier to obtain if you live in South
East Asian and Pacific nations, where they grow naturally, abun-
dantly and are fresh.
But there are a number of phytochemicals, herbs, foods
and supplements that also possess powerful antioxidant effects
[1]. The following chapters gives the key to many.

[*]. ‘Soylent Green’ was a sci-fi movie set in the near future, star-
ring Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson in his last perform-
ance. It detailed a lawless world governed by big business in a
corporate state. Food was at a premium and the masses were fed
nutrients in biscuits called ‘Soylent Green’. Not only was ‘Soylent
Green’ dead food, is was also made from dead people! We do not
appear to be so far off that situation in today’s world.

15
LIFESTYLE FACTORS THAT MAKE US AGE

A diet lacking sufficient antioxidants

A diet insufficient in fruit and vegetables

Poor digestion

Lack of a regular exercise routine

Lack of sleep/inadequate rest

Stress

Too much time in the sun

Air pollution

Smoking

Alcohol

All of the above factors which lead to early ageing, are within your
control to amend and reverse. If you want to stay young and healthy
for longer than the average, and maybe much longer, make your
own personal lifestyle changes and additions today [2].
