Installing the End User Core Cartridge
To install and gather end user data on the Foglight Management Server, you need to first install the
End User Core (EU-Core) cartridge, an agent-less cartridge which contains common elements
used by the End User cartridges. After installing the EU-Core cartridge, you install the following
cartridges to gather end user metrics data:
The Cartridge for FxMthis cartridge communicates with the Foglight Experience
Monitoring appliance and reports end user data to the Foglight.
The Cartridge for FxVthis cartridge communicates with the Foglight Experience Viewer
appliance and reports end user data to the Foglight.
The Cartridge for FTRthis cartridge plays back scripts created on the Foglight
Transaction Recorder and uploaded to Foglight for playback using the Foglight Transaction
Player agents.
All three cartridges report on end user performance and require the EU-Core cartridge to report
data and metrics.
Note

If you have already installed and are using any of the end user cartridges, the EU-Core cartridge
is already present on your Foglight Management Server. It is recommended that you install the
latest version of the EU-Core cartridge on your system.

Installing the Foglight Agent Manager

The Foglight Agent Manager (FglAM) is installed on monitored Foglight hosts, providing a

Installing the Cartridge for FTR and Its
Components
This chapter provides the procedures necessary to install and configure the components required to
record scripts with the Foglight Transaction Recorder, upload those scripts to the Foglight, and
configure the scripts for playback on Foglight for end user monitoring.

Foglight Transaction Recorder System Requirements

The following lists provide system requirements for the Foglight Transaction Recorder.
Note

The Foglight Transaction Player requires the 32-bit Foglight Agent Manager (FglAM).

Software
Foglight Transaction Recorder and Tevron CitraTest software requirements:

End User Monitoring: Installation and Configuration Guide

30

Chapter 4Installing the Cartridge for FTR and Its Components

The hardware requirements listed in this section represent the minimum requirements for a
machine running a single Transaction Player agent configured for one worker process (a client
machine running one Foglight Transaction Recorder script at a time).

Installing the Foglight Transaction Recorder on Windows Vista or

Newer Operating Systems
When installing the Foglight Transaction Recorder on Windows Vista or a newer operating
system, you must save the installation files to the local machine and run the process as a user with
administrative privileges.

Upgrading and Using Existing FTR Scripts from SPID to the Foglight
Agent Manager
Previous versions of the Cartridge for Foglight Transaction Recorder used SPID to upload scripts
to Foglight from the Foglight Transaction Recorder. Foglight 5.5.5 and later versions use the
Foglight Agent Manager (FglAM) to upload the recorded scripts. When the EU-Core-5_6_5.car
installs, a new FglAM script list is created for any existing SPID script list when there is no
FglAM script list with the same name. Changes made to the SPID script list after the upgrade
will not be reflected in the FglAM list. The SPID script list and the FglAM script list are not
connected. A copy of the SPID list is made only when the upgrade of the EU-FTR Cartridge is
performed.

Consistent Display Property Settings When Using CitraTest

CitraTest uses image matching. It is vital that all systems running scripts render the images as they
were displayed on the development machine. You must ensure that all systems have identical:
Operating systems
Screen resolution
Color depth
Other configurable settings, such as background, appearance, and effects that also affect the
display. Screen resolution and color depth are hardware dependent. Changing the operating system
can affect recording results. Scripts should be written and tested on the same machine as outlined
above.
Running CitraTest Scripts with CitraTest

CitraTest requires control of the desktop. When a CitraTest script is running, the machine cannot
be used for any other purpose. For this reason, and because of the requirement for consistent
desktop Display Property settings, VMWare or VirtualPC are useful tools. You can create a virtual
machine with a base configuration, which can be used to run Foglight Transaction Player agents.
This provides consistent video, and allows the virtual machine to be minimized while scripts are
executing, freeing up the machine for other use.
