Some people suggest that the government should do more for their citizens to
have a healthy diet but others claim that it is a responsibility of individuals. Discuss
both views and give your opinions. (19/7/2014)
In the era of increasing number of people being diagnosed with intractable diseases due to
unhealthy diets, some people think it should be the responsibility of government to promote
the benefits of lean eating to its citizens; while others say it is the individuals effort that truly
counts. Each view has its own rationale that is worth discussing before drawing my own
personal opinion upon the issue.
It is true that in order to raise the health awareness of the public, extensive coverage on
mass media need to be run. This means that nobody is in a better position to execute those
activities than the government. Nowadays, besides supporting many physical activity
campaigns, governments in some countries have also formed health agencies as part of a
comprehensive strategy to better increase health awareness amongst the society. All of
these activities have ultimately resulted in higher health awareness in the public in a recent
survey. This can only be done with the power and instructions from the governments, thus
their role in this issue is indeed substantial.
However, even if the government has succeeded in popularizing the concept of healthy diet,
it is merely impossible for them to constantly remind each person to live up to it since the
decision is eventually a personal one. In the age of hectic lifestyles and mushrooming fast
food chains across the globe, the question remains whether it is possible for people to resist
the temptation of a hamburger or fried chickens after a long working day. Of course, this
would not have been a problem if eating fast food had also been coupled with frequent
exercises. Sadly, in reality, people are far less willing to do so despite their being conscious
of the health impacts their actions may bring.
In conclusion, it is clear that both sides have legitimate reasons to prove their view. I believe
that governments alone cannot make miracles happen unless each person is also
responsible for their own way of eating and living, thus the responsibility should be shared
between the two parties in promoting and maintaining a healthy diet.
Some people think governments should ban dangerous sports while others think
people should have freedom to do any sports or activity.Discuss both views and give
your own opinion. (9/8/2014)
Due to the hazardous nature of adrenaline sports like sky diving or motocross, some people
are of the opinion that it should be banned by the governments. However, there are still a
majority of the society thinks that everyone has the autonomy to play which sports he or she
likes. Whilst both views have legitimate points to prove, it is worth taking a look at the two
perspectives before drawing my personal conclusion.
To begin with, it is quite straightforward to identify why many people are against dangerous
sports like car racing or cliff diving. It is clearly because there have been more and more
accidents related to these sports happening to the players over the years. When these

Many young people who leave school hold a negative attitude towards learning. Why
does this happen? What are the solutions? (24/5/2014)
It is hard to imagine our life without education. Those who plan to enter the world of high
salary are obliged to get qualifications from accredited institutes. However, the recent
research has revealed that graduates become more cynical, egocentric and tend to have a
negative attitude towards learning process. The causes and solutions for this will be outlined
below.
In my understanding, the main reason behind such adverse attitude is rooted in parental
high expectations coupled with peer competitiveness. As a result, students are not willing to
share materials with each other, or refuse to give a hand to classmates in fear that this will
prevent them from achieving high marks. Furthermore, learning process at universities is
often rigid, that is, students are given lectures and are expected to understand the material
by themselves. But humans brains perceive information in various ways, and acquiring
knowledge can turn out to be challenging for some. If the latter one is the case, the selfesteem of young people will consequently fall.
Nevertheless, there is a remedy for everything except death. In order to avoid this hostile
way of thinking towards education, universities should also try to change their usual way of
grading. For example, students should be allowed to earn marks if they participate during
lectures. In that case, they can stand out even if they only ask questions to clarify the
material. Such stimulant will motivate young people to come to classes and become more
curious about their field of study. Additionally, to create a more positive image of education,
teachers must be encouraged to assist students in understanding the lectures. For instance,
they can extend their consultation hours or be more flexible in arranging times.
In conclusion, the negative attitude towards education comes from the overachieving
environment the graduates live in, and to reduce the pressure from this, institutions should
