Typography
The revised doctor form uses the font, Rockwell. The font used is very easy to read and
emphasis is placed on the headings rather than the entire document. Bullets are used to
list he information in quick form. The original document was bundled together and had
unnecessary sentences and information. The revised document is spread out so that it is
not overwhelming to the reader.
White Space
White space is similar in both documents but appears better balanced in the revised
document. The revised document has better use of colors and layout so the whitespace
appears more balanced. The revised document is more spread out allowing a better
balance of white space.
Design Principles
As a graphic designer I understand that people tend to ignore things they mark as
unattractive. People like to look at things that are attractive so more colorful and balanced
documents will receive more attention than plain boring documents.
Headings/Visuals
I had trouble locating the information that I was looking for. Because it was difficult to
locate readers would lose interest and probably not read the entire document. All
information is located under its specific heading so that it can be easily found. In the
revised document I added color blocks to the top of the document which is not required
but it helps separate the information in an appealing format.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was trying to separate the information in the provided document. It
was not organized and had no order to what information was important. It also lacked
items that I felt are important. Surgery is a big deal and not having warnings or risks is
dangerous to the patient. The original document had some information but it was unclear
what exactly it wanted to emphasize. I also found information that was unnecessary and
was more confusing than helpful. The information about popsicles seems unimportant
and should be provided to the patient in conversation, not on a professional document. I
also felt it was important to emphasize that patients should contact the office should they
have any more questions.
